Let's go back to the FISC for a moment. The reason those judges assume the material they are presented have been thoroughly vetted before reaching their desks is an over reliance on the Woods Procedure being followed. That is the stage where the strict scrutiny is supposed to occur.
Woods Procedures are designed to be a gauntlet. Still, it's hard to imagine Carter Page's 4 wiretap applications and renewals getting through if the Dossier was used as evidence. Good read by Sharyl Attkisson from last year.

Nunes memo raises question: Did FBI violate Woods Procedures?

Quote:

.... the completed FISA application requires approval through the FBI chain of command "including a Supervisor, the Chief Division Counsel (the highest lawyer within that FBI field office), and finally, the Special Agent in Charge of the field office, before making its way to FBI Headquarters to get approval by (at least) the Unit-level Supervisor there."

At FBI headquarters, an "action memorandum" is prepared with additional facts culled by analytical personnel assigned to espionage allegations involving certain foreign powers.

Next, it goes to the Justice Department "where attorneys from the National Security Division comb through the application to verify all the assertions made in it," wrote Rangappa. "DOJ verifies the accuracy of every fact stated in the application. If anything looks unsubstantiated, the application is sent back to the FBI to provide additional evidentiary support this game of bureaucratic chutes and ladders continues until DOJ is satisfied that the facts in the FISA application can both be corroborated and meet the legal standards for the court. After getting sign-off from a senior DOJ official (finally!)."

But there are even more reviews and processes regarding government applications for wiretaps designed to make sure inaccurate or unverified information isn't used.

In November 2002, the FBI implemented a special FISA Unit with a unit chief and six staffers, and installed an automated tracking system that connects field offices, headquarters, the National Security Law Branch and the Office of Intelligence, allowing participants to track the process during each stage.

Starting March 1, 2003, the FBI required field offices to confirm they've verified the accuracy of facts presented to the court through the case agent, the field office's Chief Division Counsel and the Special Agent in Charge.

Those judges forgot who they work for. They were institutionalized, and became part of s bureaucratic process instead of doing their sworn duty to uphold the constitution of the USA. It is easy to fall into the trap of rubber stamping things without critical examination when it seems most or nearly all of the time everything is OK, but when you are the last line of defense of civil rights, you do not mail it in.

I will grant that they had developed trust in a process that should have kept garbage off of their desks IF it wasn't skirted for political reasons.

Me too.

I wouldn't take the delay here like I would when a jury is out for an extended time though.

Although, I can't imagine that the Judges in our Judicial Branch are generally proud of how Mueller has conducted his investigation, including the knuckleheads in the DOJ !

Let's consider that this is true. Imagine the story they were told to get them to take this position.

"We have strong, verified intelligence that Trump has been colluding with Russians to rig the election. We can prove it."

If they said this, why would any Senator object at that time. I suppose it is also possible that they didn't like Trump and wanted to take him down as well though.

He told them that the president was under investigation himself or WHY that investigation was thought to be necessary?

Would the Dems or nevertrumpers have leaked that to the press ASAP once informed?

That is when a Senator should say, "Lets see the evidence, because you know....YOU ARE OPENING AN INVESTIGATION INTO THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES."

Is everyone thus far denying McCabes accusations?

He's thrown just about everyone he was in contact with under the bus. I think he's trying to taint the jury pool.

Beware! There is MSM manipulation at play regarding McCabe. The above represents a very misleading question, a planted question IMO. The leak in which McCabe was involved that lead to his firing, the leak about which he lied to the FBI agents, was the PADAJ leak to the "WSJ", not the "NYT". So why ask a question about leaking to the NYT??? You know that question had to be pre-approved. The fakers are at work.

McCabe says he used "Trump's own words" about Russia being a factor in why Trump fired Comey to open the investigation.

I have heard people say this before. It doesn't make sense.

McCabe says they opened the investigation immediately after Comey was fired. Didn't Trump tell Lester Holt Russia was a reason like a week or two later?

I posted in the McCabe thread that according to McCabe, he and Rosy were going to brief the Gang of Eight about the new investigations into Trump after Comey's firing. However, Devin Nunes was present, so they decided not to reveal it.

Running errands today...Hannity (I think) had a guest on saying gang of 8 stuff is privileged.

McCabe has committed an other "no no" just revealing the info he did regarding his opening an investigating into Trump and the gang of 8 not objecting.
Not when I'm done with it.

Haven't read McCabe's book, nor will I but I don't think saying what he did not discuss with the Gang of Eight versus what he did discuss is not that big of a no-no. Maybe I'm wrong, though.

VGood point. That is really screwy.

But it makes sense.

Perhaps a reporting requirement would help?

I'm really spitballing here. This is a strange area of inquiry that is unsettling all around. Secretly spying on American citizens is really problematic to me. The fact that we are doing it at all ought to give everyone pause. The fact that an outgoing administration actively tried to use the process to attack an incoming administration should chill everyone to the bone.
At the very least, there should be an attorney ad litem appointed to represent the US citizen targets by a FISA warrant.

Knowing about the Ohr nexus for almost 2 yrs, it still boggles my mind that DOJ procedures allow the wife a Senior DOJ official to be employed for the primary purpose of gathering opposition research against a POTUS candidate. Seriously? What could possibly go wrong?

https://thehill.com/opinion/judiciary/430717-the-family-secret-bruce-ohr-told-rod-rosenstein-about-russia-case

Quote:

....And now we learn, from testimony that is still being kept secret from the public, that Ohr admitted to Congress last year that he also took Russia information that his wife, Nellie, assembled against Trump on a computer drive and delivered that to the FBI in 2016 -- a revelation that has raised fresh concerns in Congress about a possible conflict of interest....

The way Ohr described it, his wife's research was like an additional dossier assembled from Fusion GPS research to augment what Steele was separately providing the FBI.
"She (Nellie Ohr) provided me with a memory stick that included research she had done for Fusion GPS on various Russian figures," Ohr told congressional investigators.
"And the reason she provided that information to me is, my understanding was, it related to some of the same -- it related to the FBI's Russia investigation. And she gave me that stick to give to the FBI.".....

Steele's dossier was the opening salvo. A document sent to the State Department by Clinton proteges Cody Shearer and Sidney Blumenthal was another. A thumb drive given by Clinton campaign lawyer Michael Sussman to FBI general counsel James Baker was a third. Simpson's thumb drive given to Bruce Ohr was a fourth. And Nellie Ohr's thumb drive would be a fifth. At least three of those work products -- those from Steele, Shearer/Blumenthal and Nellie Ohr -- resemble what many people might consider a dossier.

Most of this we already knew. The article just provides a little more info on what was in Nellie Ohr's thumb drive. I think there is a more important aspect in the background: How much of Nellie Ohr's material was 'copied' into Steele's dossier? In other words, how much of the Steele dossier did Nellie Ohr write? And, of course, where or how did Nellie Ohr obtain her material? Was she one of those private contractors that were accessing the NSA databases?

Watch the beginning of the video clip! Operation Crossfire Hurricane, launched the end of July 2016, was a counterintelligence investigation into the Trump Campaign, not into Russian interference in the Election. Wow!

Have we ever been misled.

Report will be released next week, supposedly, according to CNN. Also made a fresh thread on discussion of this specifcially.

https://www.cnn.com/2019/02/20/politics/special-counsel-conclusion-announcement/index.html

Gist:

Quote:

Quote:
Washington (CNN)Attorney General Bill Barr is preparing to announce as early as next week the completion of Robert Mueller's Russia investigation, with plans for Barr to submit to Congress soon after a summary of Mueller's confidential report, according to people familiar with the plans.
The preparations are the clearest indication yet that Mueller is nearly done with his almost two-year investigation.
The precise timing of the announcement is subject to change.
The scope and contours of what Barr will send to Congress remain unclear. Also unclear is how long it will take Justice officials to prepare what will be submitted to lawmakers.
Rest of article is CNN bleeding. They must know it won't be what they want.
CNN is an enemy of the state and should be treated as such.

I may be mistaken, but it's my understanding that multiple investigations (hopefully indictments) were placed in limbo pending Mueller's investigation because the latter had priority. Once Mueller is finished, then these other investigations will be given the green light. For instance, McCabe -- he was a Mueller witness plus provided personal documents, so until Mueller completed his work, no proceedings in court could be undertaken against McCabe. Also, Horowitz's FISA abuse investigation has not been released pending Mueller's investigation. Once Mueller is out of the way, then what we have been waiting for may finally happen.
