I believe I was the first to propose the gun running theory on this thread.

Here's my other theory: this guy was in the witness protection program.

someone got their hands on a leaked copy of a portion of the tax return for the POTUS but there's nothing on this guy? where did you find the info on the apartment sell?

Paying for everything in all cash seems shady as heck to me... I'm just curious what the hell the guy was into.

Are any of his properties listed online by tax appraisal districts?

Cnn reported on some of his real estate background. Said he bagan investing when he was a postal worker.... in condos and apartments.... ? sold apartment for 3.2 million, moved to NV.

I still don't believe he made profits gambling. One report someone interviewed said the Paddock told them he had algorithms that he used to make money gambling.... so the Casinos let this guy and his algorithms clean them out? I don't buy it.

I wonder if the semi-auto fire (presumably .308) at the beginning was to get the windows started. During the long pause, maybe he used the hammer to widen the hole.

He played high dollar electronic poker, which can beat the house in the long run if you stick to your strat. Most people don't play this was. So for every 1 person that plays like him, there's a 1000 others that don't and lose.

Agree. And one has to keep in mind that debt is available on these deals. It doesn't take $2.5 million (guessing) in cash to buy a complex and sell it sometime later for $3.2.

There's all of these great theories about possible arms dealing, money laundering, etc, and maybe he was involved in something illegal. But lots of people have made great coin buying and selling real estate, and they didn't need much startup capital to do so. You can make your nut off a few deals and it's not a time consuming way to make a living. So you could spend plenty of time in casinos gambling what seems like a large amount over time, but in the grand scheme, is a fairly sizeable bankroll that just bounces up and down somewhat over time if you're playing mostly optimized strategy.

Define high stakes? There are $100 machines where you play 5 credits so $500 a hand. That's high stakes when you consider how many hands you play in an hour

What struck me was his brothers comments about how he helped him and their mother make money. Getting them to put some money into some of his real estate deals seems like a logical explanation. Of course, it's not a sexy theory. Certainly could be illegal activity involved. But real estate is an extremely plausible possibility IMO.

The guy banked $20,000 in the three days he was at Mandalay Bay before the shooting. Cedars and Mandalay Bay said he was in the top 10% of their gamblers......The guy was making serious bank off of gambling.....You can't spend it you don't have it. He was well known up and down the strip.

Yet we still know little to nothing about him. No waitresses, no dealers have been interviewed. Maybe the casinos are keeping them under wraps, but the media can't find people who knew him besides the brother to interview? I am not believing in the conspiracy theories, but it has been 3 days and we still know very little about him.

I believe he may have made money from real estate but I also believe he was doing some under the table stuff. Maybe he was just a go between. He would have been great at helping people launder money. He would not have raised any eyebrows if he put all kinds of money through the casinos. I am usually not a conspiracy guy but since I lived it and saw all the illegal stuff nothing would shock me at all

I didn't see this posted earlier in the thread. I saw mention of an escape plan, and of possible help. This statement by the Sheriff puts the two statements together:

Quote:

Clark County Sheriff Joe Lombardo said he thought the gunman probably did have some kind of assistance, because he had prepared an elaborate escape plan that would have been difficult to execute by himself.
That is an interesting quote.

Did his help not arrive?

To have needed help meant he must have been close to someone that he trusted. Who? Seems nobody is close to him except his girlfriend.

To a reply to apreviously asked question. My phone doesn't allow quoting. Some people can take big money playing high stakes video poker. I want to take the house out of it. I prefer table games i can walk away from at my whim. Best odds , craps; worst roulette. But roulette is so addictive because of the energy. Won more on the worst odds game than the best. If you know how to play the game conservatively. People go for the homerun and lose tens of thousands. Mainly foreigners.

Hint: Do not ever put your money on one number.

There's a lot of stuff "normal" people don't know anything about. I am reminded of this guy and his group of military and retired military people selling a bunch of stolen military gear. As I recall from back then, there was some weaponry being sold, too. I bet this goes on a lot more than we ever hear about, and for obvious reasons, perps would want to keep a low internet profile other than their black market activity.

http://www.kxxv.com/story/22006509/man-sentenced-to-2-years-for-selling-stolen-military-equipment

Quote:

Evidence seized against those convicted came from an investigation by a Central Texas Counter Proliferation Task Force. That was conducted by the IRS Criminal Investigation Unit, Homeland Security, U.S. Army Criminal Investigative Division, Department of Commerce, FBI, ATF and the US Attorney's Office.
Bartch pled guilty to selling stolen military equipment online. Some of those stolen items include night vision equipment, optics for weaponry, body armor, helmets, military clothing and other material. Bartch did not sell any guns or explosives.
In total, authorities seized $7 million worth of stolen U.S. military property. Officials also seized $250,000 in cash, a Lexus and a Mercedes.

...

Bartch worked for the government for 57 years, and a substantial amount of that was in the military. Most recently he worked with the Department of Defense.

Still doesn't explain motive to commit mass murder.

Everyone that has spoken to press so far has only ever reported seeing him with his girlfriend. So if he was meeting other people so far it seems it wasn't at his place or out in public.

If he thought he could escape, maybe he was hired to do it? And he's so anti-social, maybe he just did it for money (since he had no apparent political or religious leanings). But seems he was living a luxurious life, why take such a risk?

Everything in vegas is cash. Keep the transactions low and it won't raise a flag. Hell this guy had 200+ over $10,000 and it didn't raise a concern. They said they are investigating the 200+ but only because of this incident.

Here is my attempt at a crazy theory.

The guy is Anti-Social and has stayed in hotels for days/weeks at a time gambling.

I bet that over the years he has gotten very annoyed at these outdoor concerts that cause a lot of noise. If your room happens to be facing the concerts, the noise can be loud and would disturb guests.

He is such a weird guy that he probably dreamed up this killing scenario when he was trying to sleep and couldn't deal with the noise. (I heard that the day before the shooting he called the hotel to complain that the room below him was playing country music too loud)

I know that I have gotten upset when staying at a hotel on Bourbon St in New Orleans and some damn street performer was banging pots and buckets while I was trying to nap in the middle of the day.

So...over the years he gets some mental thing going and decides that he is going to show these damn people a thing or two about making noise and he will finally shut down these damn outdoor concerts.

/HA!

Crazy theory! Right?
