Save up over the years (not that hard as a single guy who basically lived in unfurnished places) of having a real job. Start smaller. Eventually have a deal or two that pan out nicely, probably because you found yourself in the right market at the right time. It's not like this is uncharted territory, even for people who started without a pot to piss in. Especially the type willing to hit relatives up for $$$ to invest.

Here is my attempt at a crazy theory.

The guy is Anti-Social and has stayed in hotels for days/weeks at a time gambling.

I bet that over the years he has gotten very annoyed at these outdoor concerts that cause a lot of noise. If your room happens to be facing the concerts, the noise can be loud and would disturb guests.

He is such a weird guy that he probably dreamed up this killing scenario when he was trying to sleep and couldn't deal with the noise. (I heard that the day before the shooting he called the hotel to complain that the room below him was playing country music too loud)

I know that I have gotten upset when staying at a hotel on Bourbon St in New Orleans and some damn street performer was banging pots and buckets while I was trying to nap in the middle of the day.

So...over the years he gets some mental thing going and decides that he is going to show these damn people a thing or two about making noise and he will finally shut down these damn outdoor concerts.

/HA!

Crazy theory! Right?
Hell, it's as good as anything else that has been speculated.

Are any of his properties listed online by tax appraisal districts?

Cnn reported on some of his real estate background. Said he bagan investing when he was a postal worker.... in condos and apartments.... ? sold apartment for 3.2 million, moved to NV.

I still don't believe he made profits gambling. One report someone interviewed said the Paddock told them he had algorithms that he used to make money gambling.... so the Casinos let this guy and his algorithms clean them out? I don't buy it.

He played high dollar electronic poker, which can beat the house in the long run if you stick to your strat. Most people don't play this was. So for every 1 person that plays like him, there's a 1000 others that don't and lose.
People keep saying this, but you can't "beat" video poker. I think the best you can do is find a jacks or better machine that will pay out around 99.5% if you play optimal strategy. So you will be down long run. When you add in comps and benefits from the casino, then I guess you could say you are up overall, but you definitely aren't beating the game. If there was a beatable electronic game, it would be taken off the floor ASAP bc all of the math gurus would flock to it and take it for all it's worth.

And saying he had algorithms to beat video poker is a joke. This makes it seem like he created some brand new algorithm to beat the game. It's not the simplest game, but optimal strategy for video poker is nowhere near rocket science. There are a ton of people who know it. He didn't create some new strategy with algorithms.

This theory reminds me of a neighborhood buddy's trip to Vegas after he graduated from college. He and his idiot friend had plans to book a room, get a 2nd night comped, and gamble for 3 days. Well, the morons read the fine print wrong on whatever comp arrangement they were working, so they were without a room for the 2nd night. So drunk, tired, and ready to crash after endless hours of gambling and strippers, they book a room at some dingy dump by Treasure Island (I'm guessing the Palazzo its upon the spot of this motel now). Which this plan to catch a little rest goes awry thanks to the cannon fire and all of the bull**** that TI was running constantly outside at that time (I think it opened earlier that year).

I agree with this. Even if you break even, you're going to get comped if you running big money through it.

Most of the strats I've heard about involve dropping things like low pairs for a better chance to get higher payout hands. Most folks will hold any pair when they see it.

I posted some similar stats earlier in thread. What you are discounting, is the discount on losses and freeplay. He might be starting with $10K in freeplay and getting a 10% rebate on any losses. After that, you add-on the RFB, and you can beat this game.

Yeah, I was thinking about what sort of algorithm that could be. If I recall correctly; the cards in video poker are truly randomized; it's that the payouts for certain hands are calculated to be below the odds of getting the hand, ensuring that even if you do get paid off on one hand; you're still at a negative expected value based on the odds of getting the hand.

I'm not sure how that's something you could game. Unless there was a loophole in the computer programming where if you held a certain few cards; it would always deal you a heavy hand the next one; but I can't see that happening in Vegas.

I would have to think if there was a dude that was routinely winning at video poker; he would have drawn a heavy eye from the Casino; as it's not possible to do that consistently like it is at actual Poker where the house just takes a rake and you're taking people's money. It would be the same as a guy continually winning at the slot machines; it's not going to happen. You can win a jackpot; but you can't count on consistent earnings.

I am definitely taking this story of visiting Boston and Chicago to "scout" murder sites with a grain of salt. Zero evidence that he even went on these trips and if he did there is zero evidence that he went to scout sites. The MSM is reporting this to continue the "lone wolf" crazy killer narrative. The issue with this narrative is his actions are essentially one foot in and one foot out; he is a meticulous planner but forgets body armour and kills himself when confronted by an unarmed guard. Has stairwells blocked off and cameras up but kills himself instead of fighting with all his ammo. Genius poker player and wealthy yet no CPA or accounting degree or license. Pilots license with planes linked to defense contractors in Virginia yet shoots at jet fuel tanks. Makes a bunch of money in real estate but only record of one real estate transaction (must have that Dallas/Lakewood real estate luck)

I would count freeplay as a comp. Same as RFB. So yes, if you include those, you could come out a little ahead. But I don't count getting comps as beating the game. The media and other people who don't understand what's going on are acting like he could have made millions from playing video poker over the years bc he had some super duper rocket science algorithm he created. That's just so ridiculous. He's not beating the game. He would just be losing so little that it may be worth it to get comps.

I don't think they are going to be giving him 10% rebate on any losses on a video poker machine that pays out 99%+. I could seem them offering a rebate to someone who plays a ton of table games who they know will just eventually lose it all, but that seems like a bad business decision for someone they know is playing optimal strategy on video poker. But I don't play much slots/video poker, so I guess I could be wrong here.

Video poker optimal strategy has been solved for a long long time. There is literally nothing he could do to create some special algorithm to help him win more. The only way he could find a way to win more would be if he found some sort of loophole in the computer programming like you mentioned...and that's not happening.

This. They are almost all progressive games right now. Used to be you could you could figure out when it would hit based on the number of games played on said machine. Now it is a complete reset. Each play is equal odds. Back in the day you could watch a slot next to you and see people dump money in and lose. Easy pickin's. Move over to their machine and take the winnings. Still, the best time to play is in the morning.

I still think that his escape plan was contingent on blowing up the jet fuel tanks, setting off a chain reaction at the airport and distracting first responders while he escaped undetected in the chaos.

When the hotel security guard showed up, he knew he was caught and his escape plan was busted so he offed himself.

Do we know for sure whether it actually was a cheap plane ticket or not? Because I could totally see him telling the girlfriend that he stumbled upon a last-minute deal so he bought it for her without asking before the deal expired because he knew she was always talking about wishing she could see her family more, or something like that if he knew what he was about to do and wanted to get her out of the country without risking her saying "oh no, you didn't have to do that...there's no way I could ever accept this."

...or at least that's what I'd be telling the cops if I didn't want them to think I had anything to do with this.

I dont think the price of the airline ticket was the issue. I think telling her it was "cheap" was just giving him an excuse to give her a ticket out of town completely out of the blue without raising suspicion.

Tickets to the Phillippines are usually a couple of grand for coach, let alone first class. I took her saying that as more "Oh, hey, honey, look, I was just casually surfing the web and I came across this great deal ("cheap ticket") on a flight to Manila. I thought you hadn't seen your family for awhile and thought I'd get it for you. What'dya say? You leave in 2 days."

I dont think that's how it actually went down, but I dont think her verbage is indicating they had money issues".

How long do you want to ignore this user?
If this guy thinks he had the chance to get away, he had to be confident (ie help, plan etc) he could disappear just like his old man. Maybe thats why he sent the $$$ for the house in Phillipines. He knew he could not stay in the US with his fingerprint and trail all over this mass shooting.
