I had my first Chimay last night at Ibiza.

Rather than my normal red wine, I went this route because of this thread. It did not disappoint.

I'm not much of a beer drinker, but this was an excellent ale.

Super, like me, a recent convert.

Diver:

Tell me if, like me, a few days down the road, you don't start thinking about the taste.

In weird moments.

In the middle of a work day.

Then you drive to speck, put one in the icebox, frost a widemouth glass, and wait for 8:00.

The minute that happens, you're in.

Glad to have you aboard! . . . a very expensive ship to sail, but one of the best nonetheless!

I have some cooling for TLS following Thanksgiving Miller Time.

Do not waste it on TLS!

Send it to me as a faith offering and I will send you a Dr. Mephisto DVD on the Dr. Mephisto Beer Ministry!

You might actually have a good marketing idea there. I mean, last night I'm trying to watch the HISTORY Channel about Midway and see a commercial for "cross that shows the Lord's Prayer" inside.

I'll be swinging back by specs this week to pick up a couple bottles of blue label to take to our thanksgiving in Austin...

Been looking forward to having another glass of Chimay since day one.

Ah, well I think we have a small chance of this occuring, but I sincerely hope the likes of Benny Hinn (and others of his ilk) don't read this idea.

Wow Dr M., I can't believe you managed to squeeze 3 pages out of this. I am going to try this: "Hey, had my first Pabst last night and am still breaking wind."

Doesn't this go against my protestant roots?

Well, I'm a big CS Lewis fan, who was Anglican, and with the newfound friendship between the Archbishop of Canterburry and the Pope, maybe this isn't such a bad thing....

BEER lovers, sir!

I correct you!

BEER lovers have squeezed three pages out of a worthy, smooth, and robust thread with slights hints of fruit and high alcohol content!

Re: 3 pages...

Well, beer is proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy.

747, if you ever fly through Houston, we have to test all three versions at some fine establishment!

I like the way you think!

Before I really started posting on texags, just kind of a fly on the wall, I seem to recall seeing a thread on here that a bunch of you got together for some beer?

Wasn't this in Houston?

I stand corrected. Maybe he needs to throw in something about gay mormons who believe in the rapture and predestination and drink Belgian beers.

My intent is to move back to the Lone Star State within the next year. I've been blessed out here in WA, what with great friends, a good job, and phenomenal access to locally brewed beer, but my family (and heart) is in Texas. That said, one of these days, it won't be a flight... just a drive. :-) Who knows, maybe the Lone Star State needs another craft brewer.

Made the trip to specs after making it into town in Austin. Picked up the Chimay for tomorrow and also bought a bottle of Orval, which I just drank while reading about ancient Athens and Greek culture. Good start to the holiday weekend...

Yes, we pulled this nice little get together twice over the last 2 years.

Fun both times, and nice to see the face behind the name that just called you a "lost raving catholic/protestant/mormon/atheist idiot!"

Good times.

BTW, I bought Chimay Rouge and some Maredsous Triple on the way home from work today.

Keepin' the faith, baby!

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all who have suggested "new brews for the Dr. to choose. With e-friends like you, a guy can't lose!"

Cheers!

From pg1, via the Beer Czar

quote:
http://www.allagash.com/beer.htm

I picked up a bottle of Allagash, and another bottle of my favorite Chimay while I was there. I will report back later. The Allagash must be chilled though, and the Chimay came already cold, so I might have to wait 'til tmr on the Allagash.

And, I have still not made a holy pilgrimage yet. Theologically speaking, I don't tend to move positions very quickly, so this is only to be expected.
