747:
I am going to steal your post, print it, and pass it around as Dr. M.'s Christmas list!
Insano:
quote:
We started with a glass the Red, which I thoroughly enjoyed. Was a bit sweeter than I thought it would be for an ale, but loved it...could tell it was well above what I was used to drinking. We moved to a glass of the tripel, which was much lighter and pleasing to the tongue. Then came the blue.
Batting for the cycle on all three? You are a robust (and drunk) individual, sir!
The red does hve the sweeter edge, but I find they have balanced that wonderfully by the higher alcohol content. I don't usually like sweet beers. But Chimay just does a flying elbow drop on the "others" (a nod to your Nom de Keyboard!).
I agree that one of the things that made me "go monk" was the taste complexity. There are layers of flavors that not many "regular" beers come close to.
And I said it earlier in the thread, but it bears repeating: this is one of the only beers I
remember the taste so distinctly. That may sound weird. Best way I know how to describe it.
Glad you liked it!
Maybe one day all of us "beer sophisticates" can get together, compare Bentley's, sneer at commoners, and raise a glss together.
