its still a good show, and i'm still watching but....


not nearly as good as last year, and just too damn many unrealistic things and things that dont make sense. i think the show made a HUGE mistake going with the "Coach Taylor takes another job" storyline. It messed a lot of things up, and then the murder thing was also pretty bad.

how does Riggins get away from school for so long?? i was in highschol, and yes i know stars get special treatment, but you couldnt just miss weeks and weeks without anyone asking any questions or truancy becoming an issue. the guy doesnt go to school for weeks, and this is not even addressed in the show and we have no clue how he gets away with it or around it.

also, Lyla kissing both Street and Riggins made NO SENSE. what was the meaning of that? that was just bad writing imho.

also, i dont think its in Tyras character makeup to say the things she did about Landry's looks. she can be a beetch for sure, but she wouldnt say those things she said to him. especially if she really did care about him still.

i know highschool teens can be difficult, but Julie's all of the sudden change is pretty hard to believe. she's annoying and bratty and it doesnt make sense really.

a few other smaller things that are odd.

i guess they addressed the riggins thing tonight, but still...pretty unrealistic.

Loved the episode... I think it's back on par with season 1 myself. The only thing I think that is over the top is the Landry thing but still think they aren't overdoing it too much.

How is burning the car going to solve anything? It is just going to make it more obvious in my opinion. They already know that the fibers were from a GMC wagon and that one is registered in their name. Seems real dumb to me.

I agree. Unless they filed every Serial Number off every part of that engine and car, then that vehicle will still be identifiable and it looks very suspicous.

I don't understand what they even have to fear. If his dad was any kind of cop whatsoever I think he would be smart enough to realize that his son killing a rapist wanted in MULTIPLE states, in the heat of the moment, when the guy was trying to rape a girl for the second time and Landry was acting in self defense, that he probably wouldn't be going to jail. I mean what jury in the world would convict Landry of ANYTHING?

That plot line needs to resolve itself soon.
Other than that the show seems back on track.

Maybe if Landry's dad would have just asked his son how it all happened he would have realized that, however he didn't even care to know how or why Landry killed the guy. That whole storyline was ridiculous and had so many holes, hopefully its all over now.

That's what I didn't get. My wife asked me what would I do if my (hypothetical) son was in a situation like that. I said well, first I would like to know what the hell happened. Completely agree that if the true story came out, then Landry would not be convicted. I don't know if time passing has made him look more guilty or what but I want this plot line to die. Also, what are the rules for playing HS ball. Isn't that ex-con like 19 or something or am I making that up?

This entire SL with the murder and the cover-up has truly infuriated me. I think I've mentioned before, but the minute they decided to dump the body in the river, I lost so much respect for these characters and the writers of this show. It was LAZY. And to me, just dropped the overall quality of a terrific show down to be on par with other mediocre dramas like CSI, etc.

This show is about small-town Texas football and the people in that town, not about a murder cover-up.

while i agree that the murder story is dumb...if they hadn't dumped the body into the river and just done the right thing and gone to authorities, it would have been very anti-climactic...

they wanted to start the season off with something that would grab people's attention to make them watch for the rest of the season to see how it is resolved

No evidence, no case. Landry is pretty much above being a suspect anyway.

Saracen's new girl is super model (and former Victoria Secret model) Kim Smith. She's from Texas and actually went to high school at Odessa Permian, so that's a cool little tie-in.

It confirmed that Lyla is mysteriously repeating her senior year, along with Tyra and Riggins. The new teacher storyline with Julie is not interesting or unique. What the hell is Riggins doing? Why was Matt so scared to get up and dance in front of people when last season he dressed up like a girl and danced for a pep-rally?

Too many things about this episode annoyed me.

One bright spot was the conversation between Coach and Mrs. Williams.

Still gonna be glued to the tv every time this show is on.

Characters like Coach and Mrs Williams and Tami are reasons this show is better than anything else on TV. The conversation between Coach and Mrs. Williams was great.

I'll disagree with you...the show always seemed to indicate that Riggins and Lyla were a year younger than Jason Street. (Just because they were so close with Jason doesn't mean they were the same age). I seem to recall only one instance that even led me to believe Tyra should have graduated already.

That said, I'd rather see these characters stick around inexplicably than have had them leave. While Lyla is only good for her looks, there is still mileage to go with the Tim and Tyra characters. And as annoying as Lyla is, the show should get credit for being the only one on TV willing to portray Christianity in a good light.

i thought the conversation between riggins and tyra's sister about fighting with the other stripper was absolutely hilarious.

It looked like a bundle of letters. I love this show, but I swear if they go down the "isn't America evil for deporting that poor kid's parents and look what it did to him" road I may have a hard time watching. As with the murder storyline, I will wait and see.

I'm also getting bothered by all of the child/adult "relationships" on this show. Teacher/Julie (if they do indeed go down that road) Swede/Julie Matt/Nurse Tim/Neighbor Tyra/Oil guy from last season. Seriously the only student/student relationship left on the show is the one that got started because of a murder/cover up and I think that one is over. I guess there is Matt and the creepy new cheerleader but let's hope they doesn't last long. She bugs. FNL is looking more and more like One Tree Hill or Beverly Hills 90210 and the main reason I liked it was because it wasn't those shows.

Agreed AgDC. Saracen doesn't seem like the type of kid that would mess around with two girls. Seems out of character. All the characters seem to be getting crazy except for coach and mrs. coach. They are the only ones who seem consistent from last season. I thought Tyra had made a change, but apparently all it took was a couple of weeks without Landry and she is already trending towards her old ways. Also Landry and her spoke like nothing happened and she said some really mean stuff. It is almost like they are forcing more drama/over the top stuff than is needed this season. They didn't need to do that last season and I liked it. Still a good show with good acting.
