less than 8 hours away from the greatest drama in television history starting its final season.

Question about last season...why did Phil want Vito dead?

Did anyone watch the '2007 Sopranos on set'? Looks like Meadow is VERY pregnant.

there were a couple of reasons. basically, Phil couldn't let it go that Tony B had killed his (Phil's) brother and has been looking to get back at the Soprano crew ever since then. he was never willing to accept the fact that Tony Soprano carried out the justice and killed Tony B anyway, as real justice for his own brother being killed. he wasn't willing to let that situation go......which led to the perfect opportunity to use Vito being gay as a reason to whack one of Tony Soprano's top earners.

It's a video that has been playing for the past month on HBO...jackass. I don't know if she is pregnant in real life, or in the show.
Simmer down!

Two options...

1 - They setup Bobby as a somebody who places his family above THE family even when it's completely irrational to do so. He'll bring the whole stack of cards down when he's arrested for that murder on DNA evidence from the shirt and will be behind the end of the series.

2 - I just spent an hour watching absolute **** out of some insane and pointless loyalty to a TV show.

I know I'll have the unpopular opinion but I enjoyed it. Sopranos is about more than just the mafia and this episode focused on Tony's relationships within his family. I thought it's adding to the depth of the characters to set up the next few episodes.

Couple points:

- You raise a good point about Bobby and his commitment to his families. Very possible.
- I love the duck references throughout the episode
- Christopher has really fallen out of Tony's favor. Tony no longer looks at him as the protege. I wonder if the mob boss in "Cleaver" will be too close to Tony (in negative ways) or reveal a little too much.
- AJ hasn't matured near as much as it seemed in "Kaisha"
- Did anyone notice that when Tony was looking out on the lake, they made the water look black and when he wasnt there (like after Carm/Tony left) the water looked normal?
- Meadow is defending her father more and more, while also vilifying the police more

Not a very eventful episode but I think the mob action is going to getting rolling real quick. I still think that the season is not going to end like everyone thinks it will (i.e. with Tony in jail or dead). I think life will go on and there will not be a big event ending it.

i think you're on to something possibly. there was some relevence to the shirt tearing part of that sequence i'm sure along with his comment about DNA earlier in the show.

i thought it was an excellent first show of the season, and I'm ready for more.

when the booze started flowing, i just knew something was going to go wrong.

i'm glad they took the story in the direction with bobby that they did. i have always actually wondered if bobby ever 'made his bones' because i couldnt see the guy taking part in killing anyone ever.

aj's girl blanca is freakin smokin'.

Don't forget he dropped the gun also. The police are going to be all over him, and I also agree he talks to save his skin.

Meadow is being set up to follow V. Gotti - knows who her father is but will never publicly disown him.

AJ is being set up to be like the Corelone son - a goof off who would rather party, so the family top spot goes elsewhere.

I said on another thread that Tony will make it to the end alive and out of prison (although the foreshadowing will be the other way, like tonight). Then, the movie, where he croaks.

Oh, and another thing - Bobby is as good as dead.

I really thought Tony was going to off him right after he said he had to go to the bathroom.

But there is no way he lives after Tony finds out how sloppy the hit was.

James Gandolfini made it pretty clear in Entertainment Weekly that he does not want to do a movie ever.

Yet the speculation of the possibility continues.

I bet that thing called money will be a big deciding factor.

We'll see.

If we've learned one thing this past week it's that nobody ever changes their future plans even when they are offered a ton of cash to do so.

I thought it was a great episode. So many quiet moments punctuated with comments that made you think something big was gonna happen i.e. the story about the girl drowning ( who else was waiting for the little girl to end up floating in the lake - several references to that) and Tony telling Bobby he had yet to "pop his cherry" - well he popped it in a big way in the end.
Lots of father/daughter references - Janice and her dad, Bobby and his daughter, the drummer fighting for custody of his little girl, AJ holding his girlfriends' daughter. I think it all points to Meadow having a huge role in the future of the family business - the ultimate father/daughter relationship.

Three things for this season (actually the first thing deals with this past episode):

1. Things were going too well at the lake house. I knew something had to happen. I really thought that was it for Bobby when Tony's sister offered Frittata (sp?) for breakfast. Whenever eggs are present in an episode, someone dies in that episode. I guess the Canadian drummer was the one to go.

2. Did the writers just give up on the terrorists that the crew was working with? Saw them a few times at Bada Bings but nothing ever happened. Sometimes, the writers will hit on something and nothing will happen for a few episodes or even a season and then BAM! they are back. Therefore, I think that something big is going to happen with the terrorists and that will be the entire crew's downfall.

3. Adrianna is alive. Just can't buy that Tony killed her.

Silvio killed her.

Also, look for AJ's girlfriends kid to die in Tony's pool. Might be too obvious.

It occoured to me this morning how sad it is for Bobby to have to pop his cherry with a guy that is killed because he wants his daughter.

You know Bobby wouldn't let his kid go to Janice...woman is crazy.

They show both Adriana and the Russian in the promos where they list everyone that's been killed.

I guess we will just have to watch and find out. Remember that Bobby Ewing was killed off too - just to be fixed by a "dream" sequence.

I agree, and to take it one step further-

It will be used to illustrate that Tony's character flaws will be his downfall.

First, he got suckered into taking care of the Canadian for a little bit of cash. He got greedy and took an unnecessary risk....especially at the same time he was talking about taking steps to insulate himself....to put himself at arms length from the things that may take him down.

Second, he gave the task to Bobby (rather than someone more experienced and capable) because he was mad that he got his ass kicked.

His ego and greed will ultimately cause his downfall.

he offered to kill the Canadian b/c he wanted to force Bobby to whack someone- that was the only reason, as he was pissed off for the cheapshot.

And he wanted to inflict some of the pain of killing someone on Bobby.

There is much to be said about Bobby and his daughter. Whether it comes out of not, it had to be painful to whack the dude over his daughter.

a lot of good insite on this thread. blanca's kid ending up in the pool is something i can totally see happening.

there was a lot of anticipation in this episode as noted by the other poster. just waiting for bad shi* to go down at some point or another. i didnt think tony would whack bobby when they drove off, but i also didnt rule it out and it seemed to be going through bobby's mind also.

a very strong start to the season imho.

I think Tony hanging up on Chris was huge. He also talked about it with Bobby.

Predictions:

1. Chris, who is my favorite charater, is going to die pretty soon. The first little thing he does while out in Cali to piss Tony off gets him whacked. Paluie does it before his cancer gets the best of him and he is forced to retire.

2. Slivio was followed by the FBI when he killed Ade. They caught him soon after and he is now an informant. Tony kills him, although it will be the hardest thing that Tony ever has to do.

3. AJ kills Tony after Tony makes comments about his Hispanic girlfriend. AJ goes on a drug binge and comes home one night and shoots Tony is his sleep.

4. A major character will die next week. Maybe Phil or Johnny Sac or Artie Bucco.

Who knows, anything can happen in this show!!

Me thiks Sil was always/is currently an informant... and that Adrianna is not dead.

Damn, I need these 8 remaining episodes to happen at the speed of TiVO.

I have thought that AJ was going to kill Tony since season 3. His has brought so litle to the show and that would be the best way for him to contribute. He couldnt go through with killing Jr. but I think he could kill Tony. They hinted at racism in the episode last night so that could be the reason. It could also involve something Tony does to Carm. I could be totally wrong, but that would be a great way for AJ to go out.

If this is true, one can only hope that she comes back as a nudist...

Read The Sopranos blog from one of the Jersey papers

He seems to think Carmela may be the one to go. She kept having pain in her shoulder - even before the big fight - could be cancer. That would rock Tony's world.

Here is my prediction on how things end:

Tony becomes a lone survivor after most of his crew has either been offed by rival mobsters, or picked up in a massive FBI raid. Depressed and knowing he’s about to be indiced himself, he calls up the owner of Vesuvio’s, so he can eat his misery away one last time. As he devours course after course, Tony is in near tears. Then out of nowhere, he chokes on a piece of shrimp that gets lodged in his throat.

A.J. gets knocked off after a misguided heist and Meadow ends up moving to California to escape the family black cloud. Carmella hardly sheds a tear during her Tony's funeral but she laughs all the way to the bank - she’s been skimming money off of Tony’s take during their entire marriage. She plans to set up her own home decorating business with several other mob widows.
