It's a good film. People should go see it. Im glad that I did. I didn't like some of it. That shouldn't be a big deal.

Is it Best Picture, super best movie I have seen in a century like TCTTS hyped it up to be? No. Not even close.

I think "I Play Rocky" knocks the **** out of it next weekend.

Feels like Billy and her family completely shut off access to anything interesting after she went to prison and they were stuck without a compelling ending.

I mean- I think prison shut it down.

While access was limited from there, she didn't exactly stop all comm.

I don't think Billy/family saying "yes" could have gotten those cameras in that prison.

Except it's 100% going to be nominated for Best Picture (the first documentary in history to achieve that feat), and now even has a legit shot at winning. That's not "hype," that's what literally every awards pundit is saying. Otherwise, it *is* a phenomenon. I'm sorry, but the last time a non-concert documentary performed like this at the box office was Fahrenheit 9/11, well over 20 years ago. Hell, in its second weekend it came within $5M of beating a DC movie in its first weekend. That's a big deal. Don't blame me for overhyping this thing, when the box office backs it up, when both the critics and audience scores are at 97% on RT, and when damn near everyone here and elsewhere is effusively praising it, thinks it's unlike anything they've ever seen, etc. You have every right to be the odd man out - that's perfectly fine - but it's no one's fault but yours that you didn't respond to it the same way.

Hard agree. The documentary went south when she went to jail, and the rest was just waste, poop, and drawing straws.

That's my only point.

Bro, chill.

You will probably be right.

That doesn't make this a great film. And this is just my opinion. Calm down.

It's the blaming me for overhyping part that I'm responding to.

Whatever you're doing stop and go see this movie ASAP.

My jaw is on the ****ing floor right now.

I'm not going to call it a "twist," but the second half isn't in the trailers at all, and is almost assuredly about to be spoiled all over social media, at least in the film world. Normally, I would have seen this on a Friday or Saturday night, but the friends I saw it with could only do 3 PM today - the very first public showing - and I was kind of pissed that I wouldn't be seeing it in a sold-out, prime-time, Friday-or-Saturday-night environment.

I've never been more happy to be so wrong.

Because what this ultimately turns into is just... next level. And two words would have spoiled the whole damn thing.

I'm not exaggerating when I say there's a 20-30 minute sequence in the third act that gave me a feeling I basically only ever get from the third acts of Christopher Nolan movies; that almost levitating, in-awe, how-the-hell-did-he-pull-this-off feeling. Except this is a documentary, which makes the feat all the more impressive. One that's partly taking place in Bryan, Texas, of all places, which makes it all the more surreal.

I fully realize that I'm likely overhyping it (and to be clear, the third act isn't some giant spectacle), but literally everyone I saw it with thought it was a "masterpiece," while everyone coming out of the theater was smiling / clearly blown away as well. It's just so damn funny, weird, and revealing, while slowly but surely becoming one of the best documentaries I've ever seen. In fact, it will absolutely be the first documentary in history be nominated for Best Picture. Hell, I might even have it as my personal Best Picture winner.

Just… holy *****

Nathan Fielder is a god.

Seriously, after this he might now be one of the great entertainers of our time. To the point where the word "entertainer" doesn't even do him justice.

I can't wait for everyone else to see this, but after you do PLEASE don't spoil it here. I say we give everyone at least a week if not more, seeing as it's still not wide wide in theaters yet.

Some might say that you are...indeed...overhyping this.

Look, man, it was a good film. Im glad I watched it. Im sorry my like for the film didn't meet your level of like for the film.

We can still have a beer later, maybe?

I don't think Fielder was allowed (by the prison) so much as a pen and legal pad, much less a camera. Nor would anyone be, outside of attorney.

So I do think he raced from the prison doors, back to the vehicle where a crew was, and started dictating notes for someone to write down. And why I don't consider it a full on documentary,

You have trouble grasping basic arguments/concepts, don't you?

Again, the ensuing BOX OFFICE, REVIEWS (from both critics and audiences alike), and AWARDS PROSPECTS back that reaction up.

Each of which feature UNPRECEDENTED, once-in-a-generation or never-before-seen instances/elements.

How do you not understand that the facts and figures back up my reaction as one that leans more toward the status quo as opposed to an "overhyped" one?

I guess I deserve whatever assumptions you have about me.

All I did was disagree with you about a movie, though. Look yourself in the mirror.

Also, not to be lost on this thread, she finally gave up her throaty deepthroat type voice she was faking the entire time.

Wish Nathan would have asked her about that. That is definitely a part of her "image" that she lied about, and everyone knew she was lying about, and she knew people knew that she was lying about, that she never gave up, until she just stopped doing it.

I'm saying that there *could have been further compelling local footage with the parents and Billy after she went to prison but it was likely all successfully shut down by Billy. I'm sure they had many ideas on directions to go if Billy would have allowed access. They were able to make it work with the very limited follow-up.

It's a meme, dude. I'm not literally slamming a table screaming "Thank you!" over a message board argument. We can have a disagreement on the internet without you taking it all so literally, as if me simply responding to you means I'm frothing at the mouth to fight you or whatever. Especially when you're being just as reactionary as you claim I'm being.

There was a piece of the story to be told after she went to prison. I do not agree with any premise that Fielder could have left that out.

He did a lot of legwork to continue (on a project he didn't have to deliver on, while working on several other big ones), that had to finish.

Could he have done it with talking heads from Billy/Family. Maybe. I'd bet a billion dollars the whining would be just as strong, if not stronger.

That's one of the most remarkable things about this. The Rehearsal season two / Fielder getting his pilot's license was literally happening simultaneously to / in between it all.
