Interesting. I just read through it all. No surprise, he comes off totally sane, normal, and honest in that AMA. But of course comes off completely opposite in the doc. Is that because he's misleading us? Or because the doc did? Or both? Obviously, that goes back to how amazing the movie was. We don't know, we'll never know. And now matter how sane or honest Billy or Liz ever appear to be, it will always be questioned. And it should, considering the fact that, as Nathan pointed out in the movie, the thing she's claiming to have never done even one time- lying- is the thing in life she's most famous for.
Read it and had similar thoughts. And stuff like the Lasers license plate wasn't his vehicle. Not that Nathan stated it was, but just one of those editing tricks that paints him a bit more looney than he is. I do think he's an alpha that needs to he in control, and with a few years of tape, it is easy to paint that type of individual in a negative light. Some of it quite deserved, some of it less so.
On the rape discussion, his explanation was also reasonable. Instead of using that family gathering to discuss her being raped, Nathan interviewed her parents for hours after she went to the slammer. Apparently didn't get anything that worthy to put in the film. Now sure, it was a chance to head off a very sensitive conversation and prep her dad for later to where Nathan got little, but still. I can't say it's bizarro control freak behavior to want to head off a rape conversation at a family gathering
Again, not to goaltend for Billy, but like most things in life, reality is somewhere in the middle
