The Zournal (Series Box Set books 1-6) by R. S. Merritt -- Apocalyptic zombie series much in the style of Day by Day Armageddon by J. L. Bourne. Entertaining enough to stick it out. The author must hold a serious grudge against the military (except for Navy S.E.A.L.S.) and North Koreans though. A good in between more desired readings. A place holder if you will.

Howling Dark (The Sun Eater #2) - Christopher Ruocchio
Just like the first book, it took me longer than I expected to finish this. I'm really enjoying this series and I've seen on here that book 3 really takes off. It's interesting picking up the influences from other books in here as well. Dune is front and center in book 1 and continues in book 2. But then book 2 has pretty blatant Warhammer 40k influence notably with the description of Kharn Sagara's ship, the God Emperor human leader, and use of ancient Roman military tradition.
I'm going to divert next to Adrian's Undead Diary and finish that series with the final book and knock out the latest DCC book before coming back to book 3 in Sun Eater.
Just like the first book, it took me longer than I expected to finish this. I'm really enjoying this series and I've seen on here that book 3 really takes off. Finished Academy of Outcasts by Larry Corriea based on talk on here and circling around his stuff. Light read and enjoyable. Will start the next one.
Finished Let Them by Mel Robbins. Wife said I needed to listen to it. Not a terrible concept I guess. Can see applications for it. Probably twice as long as it needed to be and skipped through some chapters
Started listening to Iron Gold on my RR reread when let them got to much.
Keep trying to get into Suneater number 4, but I'm really struggling with it and keep pausing on it.
Purchased Lonesome Dove. Need to start that. For some reason westerns take a certain mood. Have some long drives coming up for vacations. Is the audio book any good?

He's keeping time with all the others. Characters are developing their story lines, and you can JUST START to see the possibilities to wrapping the whole thing up in the next few books.
But I don't want the ride to end.
I also picked up Swan Song by Robert McCammon. I read A Boy's Life last year, and decided to tackle another 800+ page book by a fun author.
The news is a bit old, but who let Dan Simmons die??? I DID NOT give him permission, and he was sooo much fun to read. Very sad, but glad he wrote so much.

the audio book performed by Lee Horsley starts off rough. Very deep breaths that become annoying. But it gets much better after the first chapter.
In Audible, there is a another version with a forward by taylor sheridan and a different reader, but not sure how that one listens.
Dead Man's Hand (Unorthodox Chronicles, book 1) and Long Past Dues (Unorthodox Chronicles, book 2) by James J. Butcher -- Like father, like son. Very enjoyable books.

Wow, a swan song mention! One of my favorite books. Though it's been nearly a decade since I've read it, I still think of it often. Enjoy.
Read it two years. Good book. I think it got lost over time in The Stand's shadow since they are similar books.
Finished the book Cujo by Stephen King as I was waiting on The Talisman. It's very sad and terrifying at the same time. I enjoyed the story, even though the content was very difficult at times.

Just a heads up that if/when you go to read Black House (sequel to The Talisman), and if you have not read any Dark Tower, you are going to be confused. Black House is essentially a mainline book in the Dark Tower arc, IMO.
I jumped back into the Dune universe with Hunters of Dune.
This is supposedly based on notes that Frank Herbert left behind for ideas on how he would follow up Chapterhouse: Dune. Written by his son and another author, it has a completely different tone than Herbert's. It is much more matter-of-fact, here's what's happening and less philosophical and introspective. But after about 100 pages, it has managed to keep my attention. Once I finish this one and the third book, Sandworms of Dune, in this closing trilogy, that will be it for me with the Dune universe.

I'm actually reading through the dark tower series and all the supporting books. I think I just have the Talisman, Black House and Everything's Eventual left before jumping into Song of Susannah. So far it's been a wild ride! Definitely recommend.

Finished "I Am Not Sidney Poirtier" by Percival Everett. Was a quick read but well worth it. Definitely a satirical novel that reads like it should belong in a Seinfeld episode. Will definitely be checking out more of his books as filler reads.

Took the recommendation and had a break from Stormlight to read the first book in the Sun Eater series - was not sure about it but man the ending and setting it up for book 2 got me hooked.
I am going to now go back and read the last Stormlight book - Wind and Truth. Then, i'll probably close down the Cosmere a bit.

I'm currently listening to The Campaigns of Alexander by Arrian, which was written in the first century. There's something amusing and almost vertigo inducing, sitting here in 2026 hearing an ancient historian apologize for writing about someone who died 400 years before HIM, and now here I am 2400 years after the subject listening to the same apologetic historian.
ETA: It's also amusing because in the preface, he acknowledges that, by his time in the first century, so much has already been written about Alexander, so what possibly could he add?

Completed: The Warhound and the World's Pain by Michael Moorcock. Another of his Eternal Champions, Von Bek is a medieval German mercenary who goes on a quest that takes him between worlds. Unsurprisingly not too dissimilar from his Moorcock's Elric stories. I started the follow up, The City in the Autumn Stars, but it didn't grab me. It was okay, but not anything I need to revisit.

I read the first Elric book many moons ago but it didn't do much for me. How did you like those? I remember nothing about them other than they were a little weird.

Inspired me to buy Range, which was super popular but a little more difficult for me to get into so far.
About 1/3 through Lonesome Dove and I want to kick my own ass for putting off reading it. What a book.

I read the first Elric book many moons ago but it didn't do much for me. How did you like those? I remember nothing about them other than they were a little weird.
I've only read a handful of the Elric stories. I enjoyed them well enough and they're important historically. I'd at least give the first one a read, but I don't think they're can't miss. If you want a 60s/70s fantasy, I'd recommend Roger Zelazny's Amber series over Moorcock.
Finished Demon in White (Suneater #3) this week. I'm enjoying the series for the most part but a struggle that I'm having is that Ruocchio's writing doesn't really grab me.
It's the same struggle I've had with a lot of modern authors. The prose is overly repetitive, he kills a lot of the suspense with narrator interruptions, and I don't feel any kind of connection with characters. You don't have to TELL me every little detail, show me in the story.
I want to like it but the more I read the less I find myself liking it even though the story is intriguing.

If #3 didn't grab you by the throat then I think it's safe to say the series isn't for you. I think books 3,4, & 5 are modern sci fi masterpieces but art is subjective and there's too much out there to "grind" through something that doesn't speak to you.
