Schmendler couldn't reign in his TDS for one thread. He got hit over the head with facts. Then deflected as they always do.

You're describing the plot of Stargate, not Arrival.Credible Source said:
It's true. Any movie that portrays the military as dim witted bafoons and celebrates a college professor as the smartest person on earth and our only hope is liberal propaganda trash. So many of those movies, dozens of them at least, all the same plot.
"Argh, I say we bomb it to hell! Screw the nerdy teacher and their book learnin"
"You fools! I teach a class on ancient languages at a regional college, only I can save us!"

So Amy Adams is a college professor that is a linguist? And she isn't trying to keep the military from attacking the aliens?
The plot of Arrival is much deeper than that, and her ability to understand the Heptapod language's power to perceive the future is what prevents the Chinese military from attacking them. Your tropey complaint applies a lot better to Stargate, and even then Daniel helps O'Neil nuke Ra in the end anyway. Maybe you were thinking of the Disney Atlantis movie? Oh, but wait, linguist Milo winds up saving the Atlanteans by teaching them their old forgotten language and fighting the mercenary Rourke, so it doesn't quite fit your trope narrative either. So which linguist-white-knight-savior movie are you whinging about anyway?Credible Source said:

Well, if there are "dozens" of such movies, maybe you could start a separate official bracket tournament thread so we can all vote to see which one wins. Meanwhile, back to PHM.Credible Source said:
It's not always a linguist, it's always a college prof with cartoon character military thugs.
