I've thought about this a lot lately. I've been hooked on Sci-fi this year. I actually watched the first trailer for this movie and then decided to read the book because I liked the trailer so much.

I think that technology evolving may be driving a lot more interest in these types of movies and books. AI is taking off, space ships are flying with frequency, military technology is taking steps forward (drones, headsets, etc.). Today I can place an order for a Jetson one or sign up to learn to fly a jet pack. Stuff I used to see in Call of Duty is now more realistic than ever.

As a kid I was enamored with Iron Man and believed that out of all super heroes he was the most realistic. Honestly it's starting to feel like we're edging closer and closer to that becoming a reality. And with every SpaceX or Blue Origin launch I'm reminded that my children (6 and 1) will one day have the opportunity to travel into space.

I for one can't get enough of the novels and movies.

100%. If you put the right material with the right director you can get awesome sci-fi. Blade Runner 2049 is also incredible, Villeneuve is so good at this genre.

I'm currently reading the book, still have about 150 pages to go. From what I've read so far, this movie looks like a pretty good adaptation.

Seems like we've gone through some great eras for scifi. Late 70s/early 80s, and then roughly the last decade. Alien, Blade Runner, Close Encounters of the Third Kind from back then, to Interstellar, Arrival, Blade Runner 2049, and the Dune movies now.

Except that's the actual song, sung by Oasis themselves. Yes, slightly remixed, but so is damn near every pop song used in every trailer, which has been a thing for nearly 50 years now. There's a difference between that and, say, the choral cover of "Creep" in The Social Network or the orchestral version of "Sweet Child of Mine" in the Westworld season three trailer, which I agree are a little played out (but can still be effective if used effectively)...

The Martian is one of my favorite movies of all time, it's one of those films that if it's on I'll watch it or if I'm bored and can't think of anything else to watch I'm happy to watch it again. I watched it again just last month, and it's still great. I've been making my way through the audiobook of Project Hail Mary and damn it's awesome. It's good enough that I had to turn my Audible account back on because they turned this audiobook off on Spotify before I could finish listening. If the movie is close to as engaging as the book then we're in for a treat and I can't wait. Given how Damon was in The Martian I can see Gosling being a great choice for Ryland Grace.

Before I catch any shots for listening to the audiobook instead of reading I have something wrong in my brain when it comes to reading, things just don't stick, and it's been that way since I was a kid. I can read page after page and partially or completely forget what I was reading by the end of the paragraph, page, or chapter. I wish it wasn't that way but it is. Everyone in my family are huge readers but me, it's annoying. Audiobooks are a godsend for me.

I would probably go straight into Artemis after this since it was also written by Andy Weir, but I was able to get We Are Legion (We Are Bob) as part of a 2 for 1 sale on Audible so I'll probably go with that one first.
