I doubt it. But you cared enough to correct me. That's what I was responding to.

I care about the truth. I believe that acquiescing to an utter delusion (like the idea that women can turn themselves into men and vice versa) is always destructive and dangerous. It should be corrected whenever possible. That's ok if you think it's "weird." I can assure you it's much weirder to pretend that empirical biological reality doesn't exist. It's unfortunate that Nolan cast somebody in a role for the sole purpose of granting visibility and credibility to a delusion. I hope he doesn't do that again.

She's a woman and always will be, I just think it's hilarious how twisted into knots some of you get about it. Lots of people believe all sorts of ridiculous nonsense that I don't lose a moment of sleep over.

Fair enough but many of us, actually a majority of the country, do not want to participate in mental illness.

That's literally why.

Edit to say - I will see this movie eventually because I am 100% certain the effects and battle scenes will be amazing. And I like super safe white guy choices in Damon and Holland and the batman/Harry Potter kid is pretty good too.

After a 98% on RT, plenty of non-Hollywood types loving it, and even a number of doubters admitting it's great, you've now resorted to posting reactions from 1) a guy who just watched a ****ty illegal cam rip of the movie online, and has been hating on the movie, sight unseen, for days prior to that, along with 2) a guy who still hasn't even seen the movie, but hated a minute-and-a-half of footage he randomly saw from the same illegal cam rip? Someone else who was already clearly predisposed to hating it regardless, based on the rest of his comments. And these over-the-top disgruntled reactions are somehow proof of something in your eyes?

This is so desperate, man.

People are of course entitled to their opinions, and I won't at all begrudge anyone here for not liking the movie, but good lord, dude, just let it go. You're now doing exactly what you accused me of doing, just in the opposite direction, except neither of these chuds even saw the movie in theaters, and both have a history of ****ting all over it before they even saw it, in really gross fashion too (the first guy calls Page a "*****" and both just come across as really angry people in general).

This is so sad and gross.

Oh snap, only 96% RT now. How low will it go? I wonder how the general audience will rate it. You know, all the "modern people" this movie was made for.

Wow this brought back memories from Advanced Camp in the mid 90's at Fort Lewis. I had a female in my squad for several days before she quit. She was ate up severe. She kept falling every time we had to run and complained the ruck was too heavy and making her fall. The TAC Sergeant kept eating my ass because I kept helping her and even trying to carry her gear. He'd tell me, this is not training, let her die if she can't hang. I honestly felt bad for her and she cried all the time.

LMAO now. Memories.

I can't and won't post 90% of the stuff I'm seeing on X now that the full movie has leaked and people are watching it and screencapping, but some of this stuff is funny. From what I've seen, it's even more sad that so many people felt they had to act like this is the movie of the decade. It doesn't look great.

First of all, this is a motivation you're ascribing to Nolan, not a settled truth. Especially considering Page starred in one of Nolan's most popular movies, the two have worked together before, are friends, etc. I know it's a crazy thought, but maybe he simply likes Page as a person and an actor, and doesn't automatically deem hiring a trans person as either platforming their "delusion" or unworthy of acting in a movie.

Now, more to the point, I have a friend who's acquaintances with Page. They aren't close, but they work out at the same gym, have a mutual friend between them, talk every so often, etc. If I were to ever meet Page through this friend, and the topic came up, and for some reason Page demanded that I deny reality/claim that they're a man, biologically, I wouldn't do it. I would have no problem telling them to their face they're a woman.

I'm also someone who gets annoyed when the more extreme members of the trans community demand the rest of us bend to their every insane whim / put gender ideology above all, I abhor any adult/parent who supports permanent gender affirming care for minors, and I am absolutely against biological males participating in female sports.

All of that said, if, say, a biological female asks that I refer to them as he/him, not as a biological fact, but in everyday conversation, I have zero problem doing so. To me, that's not "denying reality" or "lying." In my mind, it's really not that much different than, say, Thomas Mapother wanting to go by Tom Cruise.

Whether that person is, indeed, mentally ill or not, it's my inclination to first have empathy for their plight/affliction, rather than villainizing them for reacting to a disorder they didn't ask for. And if they genuinely do feel like they were born in the "wrong" body, who am I to add more friction to their life by actively denying a simple request? If they feel more at peace pretending to be a different gender, more power to them. I know y'all view that as feeding their delusions or whatever, but I simply don't see the world as that black and white. I believe there's a middle ground where we can teach kids truth, but also practice kindness and nuance rather than exposing them only to knee jerk, all-or-nothing worldviews.

Also, by showing trans people a kindness in the way they ask (again, I'm simply talking the use of pronouns), maybe - just maybe - they'll be more inclined to listen when I explain why I think it's incredibly unfair to biological women for biological men to participate in female sports. In other words, sometimes it's less about being right, and more about trying to find a middle ground. Granted, I realize some of you think that all trans people are tyrannical in their ideology, and sure, a number of them are, but that simply hasn't been my experience with the ones I've met in the real world.

It's almost impressive at this point, if it wasn't so delusional, that you somehow still think "so many people" are lying/exaggerating. Especially when quite a few on the right now are even admitting it's great. Your certainty, despite all evidence to the contrary, that the hundreds of positive reviews, from an incredibly broad spectrum now, are lying/exaggerating, while the few negative reviews, and endless chuds screen-grabbing cam rips, are the only ones *really* telling the truth, is certainly… something.

What's even more perplexing is that a number of the people/accounts you link to are just so obviously hateful individuals in general. Their feeds are filled with so much anger, mocking, mean-spirited-ness, vile sentiments, etc. A couple of them simply don't come across as nice, sane people at all. Ironic for someone who always pits themself as morally superior to me, yet here you are aligning yourself with such sketchy personas, determined to go down swinging to the bitter end.

To be clear, that's not to say anyone with negative review is a bad person. Obviously not, and far from it. It's just wild how you can't see that some of these people don't do you any favors in your increasingly sad, week-by-week, day-by-day, hour-by-hour quest to spread endless negativity about a movie you still haven't even seen for yourself.

Some of the 50 critics you posted tweets from are also probably hateful *******s, but I'm not going to spend an hour digging through their other posts to show that to you, because you wouldn't care anyway, because this isn't about whether people are "nice" or not. Some people have a lot of skin in the game and for careerist or ideological reasons, will absolutely stay in lock-step and post the "daring" "movie of a lifetime" reviews. Others, who have already been cast aside from the in-crowd for wrong-think, or random dudes who can say whatever they want, aren't impressed by this movie. I get it that you think it's lame if it's people just mad about the DEI casting, but if you actually look at the reviews and comments (that won't come up in a TC algorithm), a lot of their criticisms are about fundamental stuff, not political stuff. It's some of both. I've watched a few clips of the leaked movie and it really, in all honesty, does not look good. But, it is a movie, and if you end up enjoying it a lot, that's fun for you!

The "spoiler thread," as requested...

https://texags.com/forums/13/topics/3614622

From here on out, in addition to whatever other discussion, as we always do, this thread is now for general reactions only, no spoilers/plot details.

And yes, as I mentioned in the other thread, even though this is a 3,000-year-old book, Nolan's telling takes certain liberties in how the story is told, apparently jumping back-and-forth both in time and in plot-lines that are, surprise surprise, presented more elaborately than the book. Also, Nolan has added certain scenes, omitted others, etc. Thus, how Nolan tells the story can be considered just as much as, if not more of a spoiler, than the events of the book itself.
