Getting back to the topic, I watched to about 2:45 of Jeremy's review. Good enough for me. I'd rather not get any spoilers or even information about much more.

The only other reviewer who's opinion would hold weight for me would be the Critical Drinker.

I just don't put stock in the opinions of ******s who post a few sentences on X. If you don't have the ability or take the time to lay out at least a 5 minute review on what you liked or didn't like about the movie, your opinion is kind of irrelevant to me.

Good call on the whole Barbenheimer thing. I kind of forgot about that. I don't see this one making a billion either, but if the o/u was set at 800 million, I am probably taking the over.

Jeremy Jahns is one of my favorite reviewers, and I generally agree with his takes, so I trust his review. Spoiler alert, he loved it.

I knew that if Jahns loved it, some of the people who absolutely bled over this thread would eat crow. He even points out how little screen time the two controversial actors had in the film

Next time before we declare a film is bad because X culture war BS, can we at least wait for some reviews to drop

i was skeptical of this one making a billion but knew it would do well no matter what....but im now a little less skeptical....i think there's a decent chance now this sucker crosses the line....

on the box office thread where we discussed the possibility of having a bunch of films crossing a billion worldwide, this one was top of my list of the less likely of the odyssey, doomsday, and minions & monsters....

man i think this one might top it....if the worldwide BO shows up after some of these legit reviews are now coming out i would be shocked if this thing doesn't crush it...

If the O/U is a billion dollars, I'm leaning the under. It would need some incredible word of mouth advertising to cross that mark for a non-sequel, non-franchise IP.

I think it does too.

Only problems could be:

1) Length of the movie -- people just don't want to go see a 3 hour movie (myself included tbh)
2) Are women interested in this? With the Barbenheimer thing, I know lots of women who went to be part of the cultural phenomenon who would not have seen a CN movie otherwise...including my wife. She has no desire to go see this in the theater
3) Spider-man: Brand New Day is waiting in the wings to take everyone's money

Things working in the movies favor:

1) Nolan
2) A more well known story vs. biopic about an American
3) Zendaya, Tom Holland, Robert Pattinson -- they gunna bring in the youths
4) If the reviews are to be believed, it will likely have a mostly positive word of mouth, which will give it legs since the only competition is Spider-man for the next month.

all those are important no doubt...but the biggest obstacle for this thing will be the international BO (meant international in my post above not worldwide)....

nolan films historically have roughly a 2/3 split favoring the international BO....if this thing keeps to that then i dont see how it misses a billion...and man that's a hard one to guess on this thing....

last i checked current worldwide BO projections could swing anywhere at or around 200 million....if it does that then a billion is a problem....

if the domestic is around 100 million or better and the international can do 125 - 150 million for a combined rough estimate of 250 million worldwide BO....then i think theres a strong chance this one makes it....

very curious to see the numbers come monday / tuesday of next week.

To be fair, the review embargo only allowed small social media posts before today. Those reviewers should be posting legit reviews today. In general, though, I agree that people need to ignore the one sentence reviews and wait for the real thing.

Exactly.

The same reactions I posted, that everyone scoffed at, are the very same critics writing these reviews, that everyone is suddenly taking stock in.

Studios have always had a social media embargo, which is lifted anywhere from three weeks prior to release to the week of release. This is where critics are allowed to give quick social media reactions ONLY, not full reviews.

Then, usually the week of release, the review embargo is lifted, and full reviews from those very same critics are allowed.

Yet more evidence of people here complaining about something they don't first take the time to fully understand.

Personally, even though it's the same reviewers, I don't put stock in any social media reviews, positive or negative. I want the full review. I think there's too much nuance in movie reviews to put into a one sentence tweet. I hate how everything is either the greatest movie ever, or a total flop. In the Jahn's review above, even though he loved the movie, he did say there are valid complaints about lighting (although it didn't bother him). He also discusses the use of modern dialogue, which is a concern of mine with the movie. That's what I want from a review. I don't want someone just saying, "OMG!!! That was Amazeballs!!!!". That's a meaningless review to me, regardless of who it comes from.
TCTTS
How long do you want to ignore this user?
I hear you, and for the most part agree.

The only nuance I'll add is that…

A) Not all early reactions are that effusively generic/meaningless.

B) A lot can still be gleaned from early reactions as a whole. Meaning sometimes the praise is effusive but hedging, or effusive but only complementary of very specific aspects of a movie, not the movie itself. Also, the sheer of volume of positive reactions is always telling, especially when essentially unanimous.

I'm just saying, as someone's who's been reading the tea leaves in initial reactions for years, it was obvious to me, at least, that reactions this go around were genuine. Or, rather, that the movie was legit good, with no signs of hedging/blatant shills.

That said, I totally get wanting more nuance, wanting to know more about what makes the movie good, etc.

Just in case this might influence your theater choice. It's apparently the opening prologue edited down to roughly four-or-so minutes…

Literally the highest rated movie of Nolan's career, and one of the highest rated movies of the year.

I'm sure the haters will keep bringing the cope, saying these reviews are somehow all "shills," wait until "real" people see it, yada yada yada, but this has already blown up in their faces, and I'm not going to let them forget it.

I'm happy to see Tenet at the bottom, I really didn't care for that one. The dialogue was laughably horrible. Perhaps I need to see it again to confirm, I only saw it the one time in the theater- but I couldn't believe how poorly written it was. I know that's just one aspect of a movie but it was truly horrible. To me it was as if a film was the greatest of all time in every aspect other than CGI, and the CGI was a child's hand drawings.

You're not seriously comparing these two movies, are you? I know O Brother is an adaptation of The Odyssey but that's a real stretch you're making to try to refute his point. Besides, his point (I'm assuming) hinges on the controversies surrounding Nolan's version, which weren't surrounding O Brother. If this movie were made by lesser director it wouldn't have nearly the spotlight to begin with, it definitely wouldn't get the benefit of the doubt from the critics and the general audience, and it wouldn't be able to withstand the controversies. Even the critics who like it are overlooking things like the pacing because it's Nolan.

After a 98% on RT, plenty of non-Hollywood types loving it, and even a number of doubters admitting it's great, you've now resorted to posting reactions from 1) a guy who just watched a ****ty illegal cam rip of the movie online, and has been hating on the movie, sight unseen, for days prior to that, along with 2) a guy who still hasn't even seen the movie, but hated a minute-and-a-half of footage he randomly saw from the same illegal cam rip? Someone else who was already clearly predisposed to hating it regardless, based on the rest of his comments. And these over-the-top disgruntled reactions are somehow proof of something in your eyes?

This is so desperate, man.

People are of course entitled to their opinions, and I won't at all begrudge anyone here for not liking the movie, but good lord, dude, just let it go. You're now doing exactly what you accused me of doing, just in the opposite direction, except neither of these chuds even saw the movie in theaters, and both have a history of ****ting all over it before they even saw it, in really gross fashion too (the first guy calls Page a "*****" and both just come across as really angry people in general).

This is so sad and gross.

Incorrect. It is actually a woman, who took hormones and chopped her breasts off, running through sand, in armor, in a terrible quality 20 second clip.

Movie could be fine though. I have my doubts about Nolan these days, but we'll see.

It's weird as hell to me too, but I typically refer to people in a way that they prefer and don't lose any sleep over it.
