I really lucked out last week in a number of ways. My family got to come along and take the once-in-a-lifetime working vacation trip to Disney World to interview a few people in person for a book that I'm ghostwriting in what has so far been the biggest blessing of my career. We got free park tickets and a free hotel stay at the Boardwalk Inn, saving us approximately $93 million, and a couple of fun character meals. But the day before we left, they invited us to a Disney employee screening of the first 2 episodes of Skeleton Crew, and I have amazingly honored the NDA I signed to not say that I had seen it before today.

Anyway, no spoilers at all, but we thought the first one took a while to get going, the second episode was a bunch of fun, and someone I didn't know was in it - Nick Frost as the voice of Jude Law's robot - was fantastic.
The Goonies' vibe is real.

Hopefully it's fun for all. First 2 episodes come out tonight at 8 PM Central on D+

Something about the trailer felt off to me. I'm sure mostly just that it has a tv / streaming budget. Hope we get the kids in a sweet Vespa chase scene though.

Looking forward to it. Like Aggie football, I can't quit StarWars regardless of recent mediocre attempts.

Jude Law's character would have at least tried an option read on that last 4th down

Nice little Easter egg from the 1978 holiday special with the acrobat hologram, lol

Aside from the main little kid being annoying, I liked the first episode. Definitely has that 80s kids adventure vibe to it.

I was entertained. Like the mystery they have going. Very solid start.

We watched only the first episode and I loved it. So many Amblin callbacks. A great combination of Goonies, Flight of the Navigator, and ET.

It didn't keep the attention of my 15 year old. He doesn't have the nostalgia for the above older movies and the kids are to young for him to enjoy. Hopefully the next episode has more action for that age.

Anyone else see a Gran on the pirate crew missing an eye and wearing an eye patch?

The pirate opening was very A New Hope opening with the blaster stand off and ship boarding.

Straight callback of ANH opening. Right down to their helmeted leader. Although obviously not for long.

A LOT of OG aliens in the pirate crew, which was one of my biggest complaints about the ST.
An Ishi Tib, the "Wolfman' species from the Mos Eisley Cantina, etc.

Yes. Got to love a pirate droid named Sm33 (smee) with a peg leg

Fun show, light years better than any of the Disney Star Wars shows other than Andor. So far I even like it better than much of Mando. This is the type of show they should have been producing the whole time.

I actually really enjoyed both episodes. I thought the planet was fun because it was different. Pirate hang out was pretty fun. Much better than acolyte.

MILES better than Acolyte so far. I didn't watch Acolyte beyond the first two episodes but this show has me intrigued so far. Definitely gives Goonie vibes and I am here for it.

In addition to his name being a pirate reference, is SM-33's design a reference to One Eyed Willie?

Really enjoyed the episodes, and am intrigued about the mysterious/hidden aspect of the planet. Seems like they are intentionally trying to hide from the outside galaxy.

I noticed when SM-33 was walking into the pirate port he was walking like he had a peg leg and the one eye definitely gave me pirate vibes

What would yall say the minimum age is on this? I have a 6 year old that is interested. We are going to give it a shot, unless it isn't recommended.

Maybe a bit older. Depends on the kid. Definitely has some of the 80s kid movies jump scares and creepy moments that turn out to be misunderstandings. Like seeing a creepy robot down a dark foggy hallway with creepy music that turns out to be a grumpy but helpful robot upon reveal.

Remember watching a childhood movie as an adult and thinking, "How did they ever allow this in a kids movie?" Skeleton Crew is a mild version of that. It depends on the kid, but my seven year old daughter passed on it pretty quick.
