Aside from the main little kid being annoying, I liked the first episode. Definitely has that 80s kids adventure vibe to it.
My wife also thought the main boy was annoying. I think she just wanted him to behave properly and not get them into trouble, which would've made for a boring show.

My daughters (10 & 5) and I really enjoyed the first two. They were disappointed when there were no more to watch.

Anyone else notice the kids' walkie-talkies? They were modified versions of some out of the 80s. I hadn't thought about them in decades.

Lol, didn't notice that, but I had those exact same walkie talkies when I was a kid.

If you think that's funny go check out the meme in the main Star Wars thread making this same joke that was posted two hours prior to the post above.

Through 3 episodes and really enjoying it so far, some action, some corny humor, complete Goonies x Star Wars vibe. I hope the next episode starts to backstory Jude Law's character or the ship's history.

Finished ep 3 and I'm intrigued to see where things are heading.

We've established that Jod/Jack is a somewhat questionable character (and not a Jedi) but he still might be the person they need right now, also got a bit more backstory on At Attin and I think the kids are starting to realize that something is up. Really curious to see how much of the mystery they reveal, definitely enjoying this so far though.

A few things.

Both the speaking style and the observatory of Kymm - voiced by MaebyFrom Arrested Development - seemed like an homage to Aughra from The Dark Crystal.

There was a definite homage to the Sword and the Stone - the Disnet animated King Arthur film from the 60s. Merlin has an owl named Archiemedes who often says "Who? What what? Very similar to Kymm.

The kids reference the Great Work on their planet. Not sure it's related or a red herring but in the High Republic books, the supreme chancellor has enacted something called the Great Works- a series of grand projects designed to bring the galaxy together. One is a giant space station that's like a big city

My kids and I are really enjoying this together.

They're very intrigued by how trustworthy Jude Law is. Plus they really enjoyed Kim. We hope to see her again!

I think Crimson Jack/Jod is a force sensitive who may have done some training at the temple but he never completed it. Hence his ability for force telekinesis. This show has been a breathe of fresh air especially after the Crapolyte.

I would never take anything away from Ewan McGregor, but in some of his more light-hearted mystical moments in Episode 3, I found myself thinking that Jude Law would have been a good prequel era Obi-Wan. He's 2 years younger than McGregor so would have been in the same wheelhouse of roles.

He had already been in Gattaca and Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil by the tie they were casting the prequels.

Just watch the third episode and i'm still really enjoying it. I love that they use practical effects rather than CGI. And they've done a great job replicating those 1980's kids-on-a-crazy-adventure movies. Jude Law is perfect in this role so far.

Obviously yes, CGI is used for the spaceship stuff.
But what, are they using CGI for some of those up close droid and alien shots? If so, then it looks a hell of a lot better than most of the CGI I see lately. You could just explain.

I guess I am the odd man out. Me and my kids are not enjoying this series at all. To us it seems too much of a cross between Pirates of the Caribbean and Harry Potter and less like a Star Wars story. Will be watching the rest of the series, in hopes in improves.

Sorry, I just see so much of the press tour type stuff "we shot everything practical!" from actors and directors who are either totally ignorant or flat out lying. (Yes films like Mad Max and Top Gun shot some really cool stuff but there's TONS of CG in those films.)

The creatures like Neel are actually a mix of techniques, the base character is an actor wearing an animatronic mask but that's either augmented with CG or a full digital replacement in some shots. Other creatures and droids are the same way, though I do appreciate how they used a lot of traditional Star Wars style creatures in the port. Their neighborhood and all of the city are likely full digital shots, interiors and things like the port would be mostly practical sets with digital extensions (they probably used the Volume on some shots as well).

TLDR when you have a creator who really understands VFX and gives the crew room to do what they do you get great looking stuff that's a blend of lots of different methods.

Just started watching and family only had time for first episode tonight but honestly it was fun! Way more fun in that one episode than anything in the acolyte that's for sure.

Should be able to get fully caught up by end of weekend.

This show feels like some cracked open a box from the archives, dusted it off and said, "1985 Star Wars Goonies spec script? Why not." And then made it with today's technology.

I am really digging it. Jude Law is crushing it and the kids are pretty good. Highly entertaining.

The shot of the kids and Jude Law walking across the planet and starscape was beautiful.

Digging the mystery of their homeworld as well.

Chiming in that this is a cool show. The kind of thing that makes you wonder how Netflix nailed a similar vibe with Stranger Things like a decade ago but Star Wars couldn't until now. The 80's will never die!!!!

I finally had a chance to catch up and, yeah, this is pretty fun.

Granted, it's nothing groundbreaking, but man is it miles better than most other Star Wars shows save, of course, for Andor.

And a huge part of why is Jude Law, whose acting, charm, and charisma underlines in comparison just how wooden the acting is in The Mandalorian, even Obi-Wan Kenobi, and especially Ahsoka. Star Wars is simply so much more lively and engaging when they cast actual movie stars, who they then let be movies stars, as opposed to emotionless deliverers of terrible Jedi dialogue. Which seems like such a no-brainer, but for some reason it's taken Lucasfilm this long to figure that out.

Anyway, Law is fantastic so far, as is the core mystery of the show, with the big secrecy around At Attin. That's such a cool layer that was never hinted at in the trailers, and elevates the plot to something so much more interesting than just "kids trying to get back home."

Can't wait for Tuesday.

Well, then, like you said, they did a fantastic job of blending both types of effects on this one. Most CGI these days is so horrible you can spot it a mile away

I always tell my kids that about Jurassic Park. The reason the CGI looks so good on the T-Rex 30 years later is because they made it look exactly like the giant model they built. One of my top 30 pet peeves in movies is CGI that has zero weight and that people run around/through like it's not even there.

Various extra curricular activities have kept me from watching every Tuesday, so we just finished Ep4 today.

The mystery is pretty intriguing. How long ago did Smee go to this planet and then At Attin? What happened to the captain? We did start the show with a bunch of corpses on the ship... did that fight happen before or after getting to At Attin.

How long would it take to go from collapse of society to crazy clan warfare?
