My all time favorite movie, and easily one of the most quotable films ever made.

Worth the watch?
Multiple times.

I bought the dvd and the soundtrack back in them crazy days of physical media.

Also got to see the legendary Ralph Stanley sing Oh Death (among others) at the Houston International Festival year or two after the movie came out.

Saw him in Austin right around the same time. He put on a great show!

Also….Well, I don't want Fop, ******* it! I'm a Dapper Dan man!

I can't believe nobody has mentioned my favorite line and the one I quote all the time....

That don't make no sense!!!!!

The context makes it even better but it's an apropos line I use a lot.

Pete : You miserable little snake! You stole from my kin!
Ulysses Everett McGill : Who was fixin' to betray us.
Pete : You didn't know that at the time.
Ulysses Everett McGill : So I borrowed it until I did know.
Pete : That don't make no sense!

PS - I have found that almost universally men love this movie and women loath it.

My wife despises it and groans every time she sees I have it on. It's one of those movies for me that if it is on I will definitely tune it in for a while. And I could probably quote 90% of the dialogue easily. Must have seen it 200 times by now at least in parts.

I am a big fan of the Coen Brothers and was looking forward to this movie when it came out.

It certainly has some good lines, but the sum is less than its parts. I don't think the movie works overall. One of my least favorite of their films.

I love this movie. The dialog is so great.

For those that don't know, Pappy O'Daniel is actually based on Texas governor Lee O'Daniel.

Going to Ole Miss and Miss St games... the drive through the western part of the state definitely gives the O Brother vibes.

And anytime someone at home asks me something I don't know: "Couldn't saayyyyyy" in Pete's cousin's drawl.

Yes starting at 7 pm central on nugs.net. Free for monthly subscribers but you can also do a free 7 day trial and cancel. Will be well worth tuning into, especially if you like this movie. Here's a description of tonight as it will be featuring a full ensemble of others:

Quote:

Billy's weekend of festivities gets started with tonight's "O Billy, Where Art Thou?" theatrical stage adaptation, featuring actor Tim Blake Nelson, plus Jerry Douglas, Sierra Hull, Duane Trucks, Cris Jacobs, Lindsay Lou, and more.

And now I prepare to get totally flamed. I hate to say it but I didn't care for this film at all. I think much of it has to do with the fact that I went into it with the totally wrong mind frame.

For whatever reason I always assumed it was a serious drama. So I was completely thrown off that I was suddenly watching some sort of avant garde type comedy, although the fact that it's a Coen brothers movie should have tipped me off. So I found myself just totally perplexed and getting annoyed by many of the characters not really understanding what the hell I was watching.

But that's on me and I'm sure I'll give it another shot one day with a different attitude going in after tonight's performance.

On the other hand, the music in it is absolutely fantastic as everyone pointed out and I have listened to the soundtrack twice now and love every bit of it and can't wait to hear them play the tunes off of it tonight. It sounds tailor made for them and I can see why they chose it.

Also, I believe someone mentioned earlier that it won an Academy Award for sound and I can see why. I don't recall ever hearing my soundbar coming through so clear and loud that I thought it was going to shatter the windows. Absolute A+ on that front and award well deserved.

All that said, still looking forward to a killer show tonight as Billy and company do everything at an extremely high level, especially on Halloween.

Pete: Well I'll be a sonofa*****. Delmar's been saved.
Delmar O'Donnell: Well that's it, boys. I've been redeemed. The preacher's done warshed away all my sins and transgressions. It's the straight and narrow from here on out, and heaven everlasting's my reward.
Ulysses Everett McGill: Delmar, what are you talking about? We've got bigger fish to fry.
Delmar O'Donnell: The preacher says all my sins is warshed away, including that Piggly Wiggly I knocked over in Yazoo.
Ulysses Everett McGill: I thought you said you was innocent of those charges?
Delmar O'Donnell: Well I was lyin'. And the preacher says that that sin's been warshed away too. Neither God nor man's got nothin' on me now. C'mon in boys, the water is fine.

Delmar: Care for some gopher?
Ulysses: No, thank you, Delmar. A third of a gopher would only arouse my appetite without bedding her back down.
