To be clear I was not complaining that people die, that's a given. I don't want to see how they die just yet.

After the pretty but awful Prometheus and train wreck called covenant (least fave alien flick) I'm sold that the franchise is dead…so many great chances to properly tie movies ti the original.

F*** you Ridley.

This popped up in my YouTube feed today and I wasn't sure if I should start another thread or just stick it here. Apparently it took the animator (Otaking) six years to complete.

Work with a guy who promoted this, with him knowing the gal who worked on this.

But 6 years? Didn't take that long to even make the original movie.

Huge Alien fan, but the preview before Deadpool didn't do much for me. Gonna tentatively tab this for 2nd weekend and see how folks feel after the 1st as to whether I just wait for streaming

I already have my tickets for opening night. I'll let you know if it's worthy of being mentioned in the same breath with Alien and Aliens.

Man, I had the complete opposite experience in my showing. Of all the trailers shown, the biggest response by far was for this movie. The audience LOVED this trailer, cheered at both the beginning and the end, while a woman behind us at one point exclaimed, "Oh my gosh, a new Alien movie?!" Granted, it was a primed LA crowd, but this trailer played so incredibly well for them.

I think the main deal is the cast; just does nothing for me. Looks like a generic "we've had too many sequels" fodder, like a Friday the 13th sequel. Maybe they'll surprise me.

I do agree that the exclusively young cast is kind of a turn off, when these movies are known for having all kinds of odd/fun/older characters. There's certainly no Harry Dean Stanton type, that's for sure. That said, I get wanting to appeal to a younger crowd with this one, and I'm hoping there's a story reason for it.

Hopefully. I just look back at the cast that made the first two so great. Sigourney was 30 for the 1st . Paxton and Biehn were like 30-31. Tom Skerritt was great. Loved Al Mathews as Apone. Loved Bishop. Then Paul Reiser being a proper weasel. Pretty wide range. This group just looks like a young meal for our favorite maniac(s), like Friday the 13th casts

Theatrical Exclusive

This is looking to be one of the best installments since the first 2

When they show these types of movies on Alien planets the twist is that the human impregnates the face hugger.

These aren't critics, btw (in case the first tweet wasn't painfully obvious), and I have no idea what screening this was. Some kind of fan event?

Either way, it sounds like everyone else (critics, journalists, etc) is seeing it Monday night.

Well all of that sounds promising.

But to call this the best of the franchise. Not buying that. And that is a part of what has made making sequels to Alien so difficult. You simply cannot scare the **** out of the audience on the same level as 1979. The audience already knows what the alien looks like.

Was thinking this same thing. I suppose in theory it's possible it could be the best film in the franchise. But if that's the case, it'll be the best sci-fi horror film ever made, and probably in the Top 20 of all films ever made. In other words, unlikely.

the best sci-fi horror film ever made
Which is exactly what I consider Alien to be, although I tend to think of it as a science fiction movie with some horror elements. IMO, Alien can never be topped or even matched. It was a ground-breaking movie and remains as intense now as it was in June 1979. When you boil that movie down, it really is a seriously upgraded "IT! The Terror From Beyond Space" from the late 1950s. Critter gets onboard a spaceship and proceeds to hunt down and kill the crew. That 50s movie was schlock, but fun and worthy of a watch for the laughs at the dude in a bad rubber suit. Alien was done the same, although with a far better rubber suit.

I have tickets for next Friday to see Alien Romulus. As a long-time Alien fan, I'm really looking forward to it. But I am not going in expecting the best Alien movie ever, but do expect it to be better than the 2 sequels after Aliens.

The over effusiveness is how I know this movie is not going to be nearly all it is made out to be. The two suggesting best in the franchise must have seen Alien and Aliens decades after their release and view the two as merely older films.

To this day artists have been trying to recreate a monster as unique and terrifying as Alien.

And Aliens was genre defining not just in film but gaming.

Again, it is hard for me to not believe the people heaping praise on this film are a younger generation whose consumption of modern entertainment has them viewing Alien and Aliens with the perspective of the young evaluating the deficiencies of the old.
