But to call this the best of the franchise. Not buying that. And that is a part of what has made making sequels to Alien so difficult. You simply cannot scare the **** out of the audience on the same level as 1979. The audience already knows what the alien looks like.

Was thinking this same thing. I suppose in theory it's possible it could be the best film in the franchise. But if that's the case, it'll be the best sci-fi horror film ever made, and probably in the Top 20 of all films ever made. In other words, unlikely.

I enjoyed Aliens Resurrection quite a bit more than most. It had more fun supporting actors (apart from Ryder) than it had any right to, and was directed by Jeunet. The worst reviewed one in the franchise (Alien 3) was directed by David Fincher before he did Seven and Fight Club.

This 7th entry was originally slated for streaming on Hulu, Alvarez was provided with an estimated budget (40-70 million?) that on the high end is 1/2 the 1997 Aliens' budget taking into account inflation, and was given a no name cast. I'm going to enjoy it regardless, but as far as cast, budget, and the other directors it would be quite a feat to outshine any of them, including 3 and Covenant.

Hopefully it's as good as Hulu's Predator flick Prey, which is a little funny given the two franchises but a pretty good comparison as far as cast and budget.

It's shaping up to be another great weekend at the box office with @AlienAnthology #AlienRomulus poised to possibly hit $50m+ this weekend for @20thcentury .
