Thought this interesting. Drone sightings nearly doubled in one week from annual over nuclear generating sites or affiliated. In absolute numbers it's not a lot I guess to most but still a data point that sticks out. Jan1 to Dec10 there were 15 reported events. Dec10-17 it went from that 15 to 26. This is over critical infrastructure. Maybe the most the critical. All of this was before the NOTAM-TFR that went out banning drone usage over these sites on DEC18.
Historical data:
Of note, that these reports were voluntary up till Jan 2024. Meaning the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) only gathered data from sites that basically wanted to report them and is no way truly indicative of actual historical unknown drone incursions into these airspaces. Wild to me, but ok.
You want weird things in the sky, go hang around some nuclear stuff. Moths to flame. Also just massive targets in general for bad actors. Human ones I mean. Without trying to get political, I think it is an objective truth at this point that our porous borders in the last few years could have welcomed in any number of said bad actors from any number of hostile nation-states. Even if their goal is just to harass and harry our military and society, it would likely be worth it.
