He was putting his relationship with his kid first. He was prioritizing his feelings and being a present father.

Not sure how I missed that.

Exactly. And he was there for his son and will be unlike his own father.

This. I don't think his ex-wife played a role in his decision to go back to Kansas. Nothing from the show made it seem that way to me. It was all about Prince Henry.

Maybe an unpopular opinion but I think Ted staying would have been a more fitting ending. His whole thing was that he was always putting others ahead of himself (even to his detriment).

I think him asserting himself and deciding to stay would've really been a good finish for his arc. Felt a little dissatisfying that he finished up still as a doormat re: Michelle.
You and I have completely different takes on what Ted's ending meant. I do not think he went back because he remained a doormat for his ex-wife. Instead, I think he went back because he realized he should stop putting everyone else ahead of him spending time with his kid.

Loved the show and thought it was a good dismount. I agree with whoever said they could've stretched this season into two.

Do you have kids? As a father, I've struggled with how a character like this can be across the pond from his kid. As someone that has worked away from his kids and went through a divorce, I can personally tell you that being away from your kids at this short stage in their life is absolutely excruciating beyond compare. The fact that Ted was doing it never resonated with me and to be honest is part of what made it feel like a fake tv show.

If you hated the woke BS in Ted Lasso, get ready for the same thing on steroids with this spin-off.

Ted Lasso could have been a great show, but it's not even top 10 for me with all the woke BS. So cringe.

I don't have kids. And Ted not ending up with his son would've been a bad ending. I was hoping for a last scene kinda like what we saw, but in England instead of Kansas.

I thought Rebecca laid out a great argument for why Ted should stay. Maybe you should consider the possibility that THIS is your home. I don't see why the best solution wouldn't have been for him to keep his extremely high paying job that he loved, continue working with the people he cares about so deeply, and have his son living there with him. During Rebecca's speech to him in the stands, I thought "This makes a TON of sense."

I saw the conversation with Beard on the plane coming -- Are we crazy for doing this? -- but I was hoping it would end up with both of them staying and Ted living happily ever after in London.

Not having kids explains a little why your perspective was based on the relationship with the ex and why you perceived that he was getting walked on. I fully perceived it as Ted doing what he needed to do to be a father in his kids life, and the ex or anything ex related was a zero factor. Thinking back it's probably somewhere in the middle, as they did put in a lot of effort on the relationship with Ted and Michelle to project that there may still be something there.

Ha. These are all good points. However, the counter is that Ted would be highly paid (looking at premier league salaries it could be in the $10-15mm range). Throwing off a mil or two for the ex to uproot in an agreeable manner for a few years could be quasi realistic.

I think some of you forget that while Ted Lasso is a show based off of real life people; it very much is a show within its own universe that isn't real.

Ted broke down when his mom finally told him that his son missed him and Ted admitting that he was afraid to get close to his son. If you read between the lines, you can make that same parallel to him keeping Michelle at arms length as well. The fact that Michelle is there at the end is a big indication that they are either co-parenting successfully or that they have gotten back together. Michelle needed someone real that wasn't always upbeat and brush aside emotions and Ted became the person that she wanted him to be all along.

I'm not sure that Ted really fully bought in to the European experience.

I have a friend who struggled with this as well.

When he moved from Portland, OR, to Sydney, Australia, there was no way in hell his Ex was going to let their daughter come live with him. His Ex did concede and allowed the daughter to visit for one week during Christmas Break in the US, summer in Australia.

I can't imagine having to deal with that kind of situation.

At least in Ted Lasso, they implied that Henry got to stay in London for the whole summer.

Frankly, that was one part of the ending that didn't ring true for me (besides flying to Kanas City International Airport nonstop from London of course).

Ted arrives in KC, takes a limo service to what I assume is his old marital home in Wichita.

He goes straight to the house and brings his luggage like he's moving in.

He didn't check in to the Holiday Inn Express and take a shower first. He didn't rent a car.

He just went right back to his old house like he was home from the war.

Also, I'm assuming the Doctor is out of the picture after he showed his disdain for soccer during the final match.

I think that's the point some are missing.

We're not talking about $450k to coach Wichita State.

Rebecca said he could be one of the highest paid coaches in the league.

His opposing coach in the final episode - Pep Guardiola (Manchester City) earns 20 Million Pounds / year
https://sportscriber.com/money/premier-league-managers-salary/
That's close to $25M USD / year. 2.5x Jimbo FIsher money.

For argument's sake, Ted could easily break off $5M or so a year for the Ex and not miss a beat.
Literally life changing money.

It appeared that he was going back to the house he used to live in when he was married which Michelle presumably kept when Ted went to England and they got divorced.

I don't know of any situation where the Ex is going to let you move back in after the divorce.

I grew up in the construction industry and saw this all the time.

I was fortunate enough that my father was high enough up that he was almost always on "Family Status" but, there used to be no shortage of construction guys on "Single Status" working overseas, especially when I was a kid living in Alaska and Saudi Arabia. These days, it's more oilfield workers.

Kind of like Henry in Ted Lasso, when my dad was on a few short term projects, we were able to spend the summer or school holidays with him in Mission Viejo, California, Ponce, Puerto Rico and the most educational one of all - Kenner, Louisiana.

The most difficult situations that I saw were the places where visitation was either extremely difficult, or flat out impossible. In Valdez, Alaska, there was pretty much only one hotel in town and obviously the challenges associated with getting to Valdez in the first place.

In Saudi Arabia, there was no way for visitors to come to the country and the guys on Single Status could usually only return to the US once a year. That was always hard leaving the US, knowing that you wouldn't see family or friends for 11 months.

My dad did a Single Status assignment in Irian Jaya (now West New Guinea), Indonesia for a year. It was supposed to be a 5 year project but his company's portion wound up ending after 1 year. I was already at A&M but my little brother and sister were supposed to move over there and either live with him in rural Indonesia, or close by in Australia for years 2 through 5. My mother did go over to Australia to visit my dad once during his year long stay. I was planning to go visit during year 2.

Getting a little personal but as one person posted earlier, we're talking about London, not... some rural fishing village in an underdeveloped country. And we're not writing letters that take two weeks to get there, the Internet exists.

And for life changing money.

The only remaining question is, which Private Boys School is Henry going to attend?

I figured he was just going to the house where Henry lived to see Henry... also he doesn't have another house currently. Maybe he and Michelle got back together at some point, but I got the impression that ship had sailed and Ted's relationship with her was just as a co-parent now.

And sure, Rebecca's offer of millions is really enticing, but not really for Ted as we've come to understand him. He wanted to go home to his boy. And he thinks of home as KC, even if Richmond is pretty great too. I'm sure they could have made it work logistically, but the arc they wrote for Ted began and ended home with Henry in KC, everything else that would have led somewhere different either gets explained away or ignored.

A woman who didn't have any qualms seeing her marriage counselor probably wouldn't see any boundary issues with her ex-husband staying with her and her new boyfriend.*

*I don't actually think she stays with Dr Boyfriend, and the game-watching scene (actually both scenes, the physical distancing in the Richmond game-watching scene, and the absence of Dr Boyfriend at Henry's game) was written to imply that. Whether her and Ted get back together is more ambiguous.

When I was watching the episode, it didn't even occur to me that he and Michelle had gotten back together. To me, the scene indicated his eagerness to see Henry and that possibly he was staying in his old home until he could find somewhere else to live.

But then, my relationship with my ex is weird and he comes and goes at my house as if he still lives here. His child lives here; it never crossed my mind to ask for his keys or change the locks. Michelle is definitely not as cool as I am (I'd never, ever eff my therapist), but she never seemed to be malicious or like the type to keep Henry from Ted or make things unnecessarily difficult for him.
