I can't remember. Did Rebecca and Sam break up last season?

Sam seems very interested in the woman at his restaurant.

Is Rebecca pregnant, presumably with Sam's child?
Rebecca wanted time to figure things out, on her own (after her fathers funeral). Then the African billionaire (Okufu) tried to buy Sams contract and she had to let Sam decide what was best for him without interfering, but she told him she wasn't ready to decide about their relationship. It ended without them dating and Rebecca still confused.

Sam may also have fertility issues. Or maybe Fraser does.

Finally watched the final 5 minutes of this episode which, for me, had one point that did not ring very true.

A closeted professional footballer who, in the first scene, was seen to be quite nervous at merely leaving the house of his BF is now so comfortable that he is seen making out with said BF in an alley a few feet away from where his entire team is partying. Also, that he even invited him to the party in the first place was a bit of a stretch. No way he'd invite a guy who, while not flaming, isn't exactly fooling anyone.

As a former closet case myself I have a hard time buying Collin, given his situation, being that bold.

I think the nervousness leaving the house was about the sports car. I think there was a story about him getting the fancy car but not being able to drive it last season?

Love this show. Why did they have to introduce an alternative lifestyle into it.

Would rather see Keely in lingerie again.

I was so proud of Texags. I was sure this was the main topic. And was going to comment on that. But here it is.

Why did they have to introduce divorce?

Why did they have to introduce mental health issues?

Why did they have to introduce negative familial relationships?

Why did they have to introduce out of control egos?

........because life is more complicated than an ice cream social at the church. Life can be messy, complicated, and uncomfortable. You'll be OK.

Ted's wife now dating their marriage counselor is a pretty messed up thing all around

Nothing to do with Ted Lasso but I know someone that this happened to. In a slightly more twisted aspect of it, the guy providing the "counseling" was the couple's preacher. The preacher/counselor began having an affair with the wife between couple's counseling sessions.

Let's just say the marriage didn't last.

You know Ben Zobrist, MLB baseball player and WS MVP????

Someone else mentioned this, but Zava is going to be the impetus for multiple characters to take their next step in development.
Jamie is now driven to become a better/more complete player, a path he was already set on by Ted. I guess Roy both noticing how Jamie was acting during the winning streak AND knowing what Jamie needed to hear speaks to his development as a coach.
Ted is going to have to handle Zava's theatrics at some point, I imagine.
I think its much more likely Zava forces another transfer at the winter break or something, players like him are pretty mercurial.

Thought this episode was the first one that was great all the way through. Like another person said, felt like the true start to the third season

The song that was playing during the game montage is called Prisencolinensinainciusol. It's a catchy bop but the lyrics are completely unintelligible nonsense. Apparently an Italian guy wrote it to describe what English sounded like to him.

It's a good metaphor I think for Richmond and Zava: they like what's happening and it looks familiar even though they don't fully understand what's going on.

The music was spot on in this episode.

That's one of my favorite songs.

I think Jamie takes the most random bits of coaching and jumps into them with both feet. He went from saying "instant caramel" in season 1, amidst all his other malapropisms, to him correcting others now. I feel like when Beard told him to look up what Philistines meant in season 2 he's been reading the dictionary since.

This seems way too simple and easy. I think Zava's self-absorption and ego has to become an impediment to the team first.

Otherwise the message is talent>team.

I agree with all the above.

The locker room scene where Zava stood in front of Ted and kept getting in his way was pretty good foreshadowing.

I think they're setting it up for Ted to bench him and let Jamie play up top again, and Jamie will shine.

I think Collin, with his new storyline, will play a major part in the teams efforts if Zava is eventually shown the door.

Collin was benched in order to make room for Zava. I believed they pushed Dani to midfield to make room for Zava. With Zava gone Collin will move back into his starting position and could play a major role in their success, whatever that "success" looks like.

By the way, how does everyone feel about the psychic fortune telling? Does the show really need anything supernatural?

It was my take that the psychic, after working with Rebecca's mom for years, had a clear picture of Rebecca's mindset/personality and knew which buttons to push to pull a reaction.

As to the green matchbook thats one of the oldest tools in the psychics playbook. Mention some minor event/item that a person very well could come into contact with at some point at tie it to some big life event that is important. If the person does come across the item/event (green matchbook) then the psychic has them eating out of the palm of their hands. If the person does not come across the item.....it's just hand waved away by the psychic and they focus on something else thats "mysterious".

I think it plays on what people think about those who believe in psychics. Rebecca presents herself as a strong and capable woman but deep down she's still angry and lonely and has some weaknesses. I think it's a nice arc that allows us to see some of her weaker bits and how she might be influenced into something crazy because of it. There was never a big deal made of it in Season 2 but I'm not sure she ever spent any time with Dr. Sharon.

Help me remember: did she specifically reference pregnancy or baby? Or did she say "family"?

Edit: just rewatched the end of that scene and the psychic says "you're going to have a family….", then adds on "you're going to be a mother…"

I guess that could be assumed a pregnancy but it could also be adoption, stepmom, etc.

Caught up over the weekend. Collin's BF is a hottie.

Really enjoying the season so far, happy to see the dialogue hasn't lost its touch. Zava is an oddball, I really hope he gets knocked down a peg or 5. Same for Nate.
