THE MANDALORIAN had a really interesting hook in season 2 - that Mando's clan was actually a weird fundamentalist cult - and while I'm loath to comment on an in-progress story, the fact that season 3 seems to be going "yeah the cult might be the right way to go" kinda super sucks

Hard disagree. They looked ridiculous just practicing on a beach, like they were just a group of underfunded weirdos. And it’s clear to me Bo Katan is about to either take them to the next level, or wipe them out. Possibly both.

New Star Wars keeps doing that. Almost genuinely questioning its own philosophy and mythology and then pulling back before really committing. TLJ had everything set up to create a middle ground between the light and dark and had interesting stuff to say about that, then...poof

I don't think "the cult is right" is necessarily the path, but the coincidences leading to Bo Katan's indoctrination is definitely a plot point and a fascinating one at that. I think they're prepping Mando to reunite all of Mandalore, and in doing so change things for both sides

Gonna disagree. The overarching theme in recent Star Wars is that unrelenting ideological belief (Jedi detachment, mandalorian creed, etc.) is flawed. The series is working toward all Mandalorian finding some common ground to exist upon for the betterment of their people

Everything seems to be pointing at the opposite

The scene at the living waters makes it pretty clear that going back to their roots is necessary, but the cult isn't right as much as it is the only thing they have
Really I think they are moving toward Din as the next Mandalor
You seem to be confusing the show humanizing them with the show siding with them
