There is a country music sucks type thread on the General Board that got me to thinking. I like songs that make me hurt. I know it is somewhat weird, but it is what it is. What are some of your favorite kick in the balls songs?

As you leave you see the nursery, oh she left me without mercy
Taking nothing but our baby and my heart

To you I'm just a man, to me you're all I am
Where the hell am I supposed to go?

And I remember being younger and my mother told me the truth
Find someone who grows flowers in the darkest parts of you
Take heed when things get hard and don't you ever turn around
You'll find someone, someday, somewhere that grows you to the clouds

Worst piece of garbage I've heard. Then, when you factor in the lyrics.....Audio AIDS..

But as the great Dr. King once said.."Thank God almighty we are free at last"!!

There was a thread on this board or the GB in the past year about sad songs.

One of the more frequent entries was this one, and with good reason.

I know EDM doesn't seem like the genre that would produce a song that can bring you to tears of sadness.
I'm probably biased because I was already a fan of this producer years ago when his wife passed from cancer and he put this out. Can't even listen to it now. Just hurts.

Heard this the first time just after finding out my grandad died.

Any rendition of this song, anyone who was in Reed the night Bonfire collapsed can tell you why, but especially on bagpipes, this song makes me sob.

Nothing will ever beat Tears in Heaven. Black by Pearl Jam is probably my favorite sad song.

Now that I have kids, "That's My Job" by Conway always brings a tear to my eye.

And Jerry Jeff's version of "Desperados Waiting for a Train" always reminds me of my grandfather.

Serious question, what was going on at Reed Arena on Nov. 18, 1999?

I was at the stack site from the late afternoon until about 10pm. Thanks in advance.

A song that get me emotional about Australia is what they refer to as the Australian National Anthem - "Khe Sanh" by Cold Chisel with Jimmy Barnes on vocals.

On the other side of the coin, I think longing for the USA is best captured in "Ventura Highway" by the group America. It also captures a time of optimism and dreaming that doesn't exist anymore. Especially in California.

The memorial service was that night at Reed. Was when the students in attendance spontaneously started singing Amazing Grace after the service closed.

Thanks. I had no idea that happened that night.

The bagpiper at the annual memorial service definitely gets my attention.

There are several Elliott Smith songs that kill me. Just destroyed. I know i have some others but cant think of them, but since I spend half the year away from home every year, the song When She Comes Home by Deer Tick always makes me homesick and kills me. This thread reminded me of it and now I'm listening to it and missing my family. Even though its called when she comes home, it still gets me.

There are also a bunch of songs out there that really just make me feel like I'm leaving some aspects of life on the table and missing out on things with my wife and kids and those really kill me as well. Ot also really breaks me up when I dont feel like I can express what they mean to me or make them truly realize how much I love and care for them and sometimes when I hear how eloquent some song writers can say things it really tears me up because that's how I feel about them. Might not make much sense written out here though. I wish I didn't read this thread as I've been out to sea since Christmas eve and extremely busy and I'm homesick like I haven't been in a decade for whatever reason.
