Mya Perez earns SEC Player of the Week honors

When the competition climbs, so does Mya Perez.

On Tuesday, the Southeastern Conference announced the Aggie slugger as the SEC Player of the Week.

The honor comes after a lethal weekend at the plate for the junior, going 5-for-6 with six RBI, a double, two home runs and five free passes.

In the series opener, Perez helped the Aggies to a 7-2 win over LSU. She went a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate, belting a two-run homer in the sixth inning to widen the gap.

The Aggies went on to take the series on Sunday behind another three-RBI night from Perez. Her 12th home run of the year was another two-run shot to push the Maroon & White in front of the Bayou Bengals.

It was safe to say the Tigers learned their lesson. They did not throw her a single strike in Monday’s finale.

Taking four intentional walks, it is clear that Perez is one of the league’s most well-respected hitters.

Hitting .493 through 28 games with an OPS of 1.692, Perez is heating up at the right time.

With a .560 average in the last 11 games, Trisha Ford’s Aggies will need the slugger to lead the charge as they roll through the league gauntlet.
