I agree. I actually think DC should scrap their extended universe entirely. It worked for Marvel, but has failed for pretty much everyone else. Since End Game, it's pretty much been a failure for Marvel, too. Just focus on making the best Batman, best Superman, best Wonder Woman, etc. Don't worry about the extended universe.

Hard to argue against this. I just think there is too much fatigue with esoteric characters at this point.

I don't think the below tweet could possibly be true, but... what if?

If one movie, this thing is probably going to wrap filming around October/November/December. Then? It'll be 14 MONTHS - at the very least - until it hits theaters. That's a ridiculous about of time for post production.

But if two movies? The timing makes a lot more sense. Not only on the back end, but on the front end as well. What if that's one of the reasons it kept getting delayed? They decided to go ahead and write the third script as well? Especially considering, otherwise, it'll be well into the 2030s until the third movie comes out. But if Reeves doesn't want to spend another 3-6 years on the third movie? And could just knock them both out right now? Now we're talking, and now everything makes so much more sense.

That said, pulling such a thing off, without the news leaking, would be unprecedented, and damn near impossible. Do-abe, but man, the level of secrecy would have to be insane, Warner Bros would already have to have another '28 or '29 date already locked, etc. It's such a long shot, but it's fun to dream...

Well, from what we've heard, they do have a LOT of characters jammed into the one movie we do know about. So many characters and potential plot points that just one movie is starting to sound too "busy".

But, I'm going to wait until we hear what @emkenobi has to say about it (wink, wink).

Nah, the third will be released in March 2039 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the publication of the very first Batman comic.

I do wonder if Reeves saw the writing on the wall, re: Gunn's DCU, The Brave and the Bold, etc, and just decided to knock out his trilogy by 2028 instead of doing Part II in, say, 2026, and Part III in, say, 2030 or whenever. Hell, if true, he might have even wondered if he'd get to finish his trilogy, and didn't want to risk it. All of these delays would make so much more sense too. Still, if so, like I said earlier, pulling it off without it fully leaking yet would be insane and unprecedented.

Yeah, that's what I was alluding to. I wonder if his movies may be the only DC film properties we actually get in near term if Gunn doesn't turn it around.

With the way the Paramount / Warner Bros deal is going now (badly, delayed until next year if it happens at all, etc), I don't think Gunn or the DCU are getting canned any time soon. I could very easily be wrong, but we'll see.

I was more referring to the scenario where, no matter how successful Part II is, if not filmed back-to-back with Part III, Gunn could decide to pull the plug on the Reeves-verse altogether and not even greenlight Part III, especially if it wouldn't be ready until the early 2030s, in favor of The Brave and the Bold. But who knows.

Regardless, if the back-to-back rumors are true, Reeves may have perceived either or both scenarios as a threat, decided to bite the bullet, and knock out both scripts/movies at once.

My only question would be why the secrecy, though? Why not just announce both movies as filming back-to-back, like every other production that's done the same? Would they really try and wait and surprise audiences with, say, a secret trailer for Part III the second Part II ends? And be like, "Surprise! Part III releases in eight months!" Otherwise, why not just tell us now?

I don't want the Reeves Batman to be part of any bigger universe. I love how it's the only comic book movie that is returning back to basics. No massive, interstellar war for the survival of the universe. Tell an interesting story. Focus on cinematography and classic filmmaking. I hope they don't **** it up with anything from the DCEU.

I honestly think by 2030 this might be the only content still going for DC especially if they get two movies in the same year. I don't think Gunn will work out either but maybe new Superman will change that trajectory.

The Batman and penguin series are miles ahead of Gunn's universe imo. Gunn went wildly over the top with all kinds of flashy comic book nonsense meanwhile Batman was pretty grounded/simpler and a way better movie.

They are denying filming part 3. So when will they write and film that? This becoming too messy.

I truly think The Batman and The Penguin series is the best content, as far as quality, that we've gotten in this genre since The Dark Knight.

Love many of the Marvel movies from Phases 1-3, but those all just felt like giant super hero spectacles. The Batman and The Penguin show feel like I'm back to watching storytelling from talented filmmakers and writers who focus on all the best things ANY movie or show should have, and just happen to be about a comic book world.

The Penguin is so far and away better than anything Marvel has released on Disney+. The Batman is a movie I love more, every time I see it, and I already thought it was one of the best comic book movies after my first viewing.

Well, not saying he's lying about this but we know than Gunn has zero credibility when denying rumors.

Can't help but think Gunn is so dug in on tertiary characters that it's leading him to not allow the necessary focus on maximizing the absolute greatness that is Reeve's Batman and instead wants to force Batman Brave and the Bold down everyone's throat. I can't imagine that will be anything other than a cheese fest like the Clooney Batman.

I say this in half seriousness that there are probably 10,000 that could run DC and these projects better than Gunn. At least the Batman department. Batman and Bond are the pinnacle of fictional IP and it isn't that hard to give the people what they want.

At this point who the hell knows.

It will have somehow been six years between The Batman (March 2022) and The Batman: Part II (February 2028). But one of those years was due to the strikes, where no writing could be done on the project, and another one of those years was due to whatever still unknown personal issue kept Reeves from writing.

In other words, without those extenuating circumstances, it would have been four years between movies, or three-and-half if they would have kept their October 2027 date (mathematically/hypothetically speaking). Hell, believe it or not, The Batman: Part II was originally announced for October 2025, which would have been a three-and-a-half-year gap as well, which is pretty standard. Then it got pushed to October 2026. Even then, it was four years between The Dark Knight (2008) and The Dark Knight Rises (2012). Granted, Nolan wrote and directed a little movie called Inception (2010) in between, but still, haha.

But then it got pushed to October 2027. Then, finally, to February 2028.

All of this is to say The Batman: Part III could release... October 2031? Sometime in 2032?

But by that point Reeves could very well want a break from Batman, and might want to direct something else/smaller in between. Or The Brave and the Bold could derail any potential Reeves-verse plans. Or WB/DC could have long-since been sold to Paramount (or whoever), and their new buyer wants a fresh start all around.

There are just so many variables.

What's even weirder is that The Batman: Part II takes place just weeks after The Batman which, in-world, ended on November 6th. The Penguin then took place over the rest of November and potentially into early December, while The Batman: Part II takes place in December and into the new year (they're literally shooting a New Year's Eve scene as we speak). So every actor will have aged six years, yet only a few weeks will have passed in-world. It's kind of crazy.

Your last paragraph is the one that has me most frustrated about this situation. Just knowing the little I know about projects, financing, and what all goes into the production I can't see them being able to shoot the 3rd until late 2027 or 2028 which itself will take 6-9 months. I suppose it could take place a year or 2 later but who knows. It just feels like there needs to be more focus on making this trilogy (assuming it's a trilogy) before Father Time makes the movie too difficult to watch.

Such a waste of such a promising start to the new Batman universe. I loved the movie, and the Penguin series, but it's gonna be so hard to get back up for this in another 1 1/2 years…..
