Wow. That's an amazingly pretentious article.

I think it's a bit tongue-in-cheek, but I wouldn't be surprised to see a rush of these kinds of movies in 2-3 years.
I think referencing Bubsy and Aero the Acrobat is a pretty good hint that it's a lot tongue-in-cheek.

Yeah but he also referenced TLOU and I don't understand how anyone can take issue with that show.

Made the fatal mistake of playing this for the kids in the car after seeing the movie and now it's all they want to listen to.

I went on Friday. absolutely loved it due to nostalgia obviously.

the one thing I wish they had done and they could have done is make the ending have a better story. The final battle needed a little bit more of a twist. it was just really plain. but I guess thats how you win the games so it makes sense.

loved the movie.

I quite enjoyed. There was a lot of low hanging fruit but you don't mind. You kinda get what you want. When they were fighting Bowser at the end, my mind went "grab the tail! Grab the tail!" because that's what you do in Mario 64. And I got what I wanted.

Less obvious Easter eggs I remember seeing:
-Blue collar guy in NYC was the guy from the wrecking crew games
-Game and watch character was on a van in NYC
-Pizza place was named after the Punch Out game and also showed Mike Tyson on the wall
-Pizza place arcade cabinet was "Jump Man" which was Mario's original name
-Mario's cell phone ringtone was the GameCube startup music
-Bar in NYC was using the duck hunt duck in their logo
-Ice climber bear made an appearance
-Mario's voice actor from the games was voicing the Mario superfan
-Balloon Fight had a cameo, but can't remember if it was in NYC or the Mushroom Kingdom
-King Bob-omb, I believe King Boo, and some of the bowser assistant mini-bosses from Super Mario World were at the wedding
-Piano was named after one of the bowser assistant mini-bosses from Super Mario World
-DK chant at beginning of DK/Mario showdown came from the DK rap in the N64 game. This track was written by Grant Kirkhope, who also wrote the music for Banjo Kazooie, Goldeneye (the game), and the more recent Mario vs Rabbids games

What else did you catch?

I lol'd at the scene where someone sits down on a bench, and there's a turtle next to him, and he kind of sits on the turtle, which results in the turtle all tucked in going back and forth really fast.
