Metroid needs to be a realistic, CGI sci-fi horror movie in the style of Alien and that one episode of Love, Death, and Robots. And get a cool synth-y 80s score.

No it shouldn't be horror. Samus is a bounty hunter than can and does wade through enemies like they are nothing at times. It was never survivor horror. It was always pure action.

Metroid has always been unique because Samus is the last resort the military uses when the situation gets out of control. It's less survival horror and more you are the last hope to put this threat down.

I didn't want to like this. I think Pratt isn't right and hearing him do a couple of the Mario lines with his voice is a little weird. But Dammit if I wasn't smiling and laughing through that whole trailer. That looks fantastic. My kid is going to lose her mind watching this. She LOVES playing the original Super Mario Bros game.

Mario has had the Brooklyn accent in the past. Remember the tv show? This trailer made his accent a lot better and it's definitely closer to the tv show. Looks like it's a mix of the games and tv show.

I guess you missed the early parts of every single Metroid game.

Well yeah Samus lost all equipment, of course she's going to struggle a bit. By the end of the game she's a walking tank capable of moving near supersonic though.

Hopefully if Nintendo retains creative control they will maintain her exact looks. It will piss off the entire fanbase if they change that.

This is hilarious and brings a whole new depth to the character. I dont think I've ever seen that before.

Getting my older 2 kids a Switch for Christmas this year. Just in time for this movie!

Has anyone else gotten all 120 stars in Super Mario 64? I know it's an old game (September 1996), but this is a thread about Mario.

Of course.

Have completed that game probably 5 full times in my life. (As in all 120.)

Latest time was a couple years ago on Switch in very good looking HD.

Chris Pratt as Mario
Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach
Charlie Day as Luigi
Jack Black as Bowser
Keegan-Michael Key as Toad
Seth Rogen as Donkey Kong
Fred Armisen as Cranky Kong
Sebastian Maniscalco as Foreman Spike
Charles Martinet
Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek

Martinet, who serves as the regular voice actor for Mario and Luigi among other characters in the video games, will appear in "surprise cameos" in the film according to Miyamoto.

Jack Black and Seth Rogen, in particular, are so spot-on perfect for their roles.

There's a shot of a bunch of Yoshi's running around, and when Peach is looking at her "war map", one of the lands you see is Yoshi's Island. (Straight from the SNES cover, too.)

Charles Martinet might be voicing the Yoshis, since he's in the movie, but his role isn't known.

Mario's "ya-hoooo" at the end of the trailer sounded like Martinet rather than Chris Pratt.

Pratt could not be right, but i think people don't realize how absolutely grating it would be to have a whole movie of a high pitched "EATSA MEEEE!!! MAHHHREEEO!" nostalgia is fun, but it wouldn't be the best.

that being said, even at pratt's worst, he's still entertaining.

I know this is a bit off topic, but I'm currently on my third playthrough of Breath of the Wild, and this game never fails to completely suck me in.

I hadn't touched it since my Master Mode playthrough I think around 2019.

Restarted a regular playthrough around November 1, and I've been pouring at least a couple hours a day into it. Just wrapped up the main quest + Champions Ballad last night (got the Master Cycle), and now I've got about half the shrines left to do. Already maxed out the best gear sets in the game (Barbarian and Ancient), so I can pretty much wipe the floor with any number of lynels and guardians at this point. But just driving around Hyrule on my motorcycle looking for shrines is super fun.

It's really one of the best games ever made.

OOT is a fantastic game and was really the first Zelda game for me that was really awesome. That said, BOTW is on another level and really is the best game I've ever played (and that includes a long history of NES, SNES, Sega Genesis, N64, Wii, and Switch games).

You say that like I haven't been counting down the days.

I recently played Skyward Sword to get ready for it, before BOTW. Feels like TOTK is going to tie in closely with SS as well as BOTW.

OoT gets the edge for me, but it's really an unfair comparison because of what a massive game that was for me as a kid. I'll probably never quite match that experience.

Have you played the DS games (Phantom Hourglass and Spirit Tracks)?

For whatever reason, I never played the first SS, but bought it last year when it was rereleased on the Switch. I enjoyed it, but some of the movement controls were not very user-friendly. I ended up playing with a Pro remote.

And yeah, I had TOTK preordered as soon as it was available.

The handheld games are my big blind spot in the series. Haven't played any of the Zelda or Mario handheld games.

The only big handheld game I've played is Metroid Fusion, downloaded on my Wii U before Dread came out.

I didn't mind the controls, but I had played it on Wii back in the day so I knew what to expect.

My main two complaints are just having to constantly re-center the gyro before using any motion control item, and the bug catching being kind of annoying.

It looked super crisp on Switch though. That 60 fps goes a long way. I'm really hoping they find a way to get Tears of the Kingdom to run at 60 fps.

What's your opinion of the Water Temple from Ocarina of Time? Also, did you get all heart pieces and Gold Skulltulas?

Thanks for mentioning the Wii. I totally forgot about all the hours I put into Twilight Princess.

Ohh boy, the Water Temple.

I mean I know the game so well now that it's not an issue, but I vividly remember having to go to my friend's house to help me get through it because I had been stuck on it for hours. But even now, I play it and there's always that ONE key I forget about. If it's not one, it's another one.

I'm pretty sure I did get all the heart pieces on my first playthrough. I played that almost daily for at least a year so I think I got damn near everything. Not sure if I 100%'ed the gold skulltulas though.
