And for anyone whose mind is bound to wander when every episode is longer than an hour (and not every story arc is as compelling as the dwarves'), "The Rings of Power" Season 2 actually feels like it's about something (or, like Season 1, about more than recreating the movie trilogy). It's about the hierarchy of evil and how one level can feed the other. It's about finding forgiveness where you can, and not where you can't. It's about deciding to do what's right, over and over, and all the unexpected obstacles that can complicate a choice that should come as naturally to everyone as picking out a donut.

I don't know if, like others have said, it's because of the passage of time, but I don't feel as down on RoP as I did when actually watching Season 1. I'm excited for S2 just because House of the Dragon didn't really deliver as much as I wanted it to.

I was pretty critical of S1, but am definitely going to watch S2. I'm glad it's finally here, and hey, if it sucks?

Football season is ALSO finally here.

For those who need a recap.

Finished the first episode. I thought it was better than anything from season 1. The Sauron timeline was executed perfectly.

Not saying RoP is good or anything, but I'm not sure I've ever seen that dude say something positive about anything.

I'm only about 1/2 thru S2 E1 but the timeline is confusing to me. How long was Sauron in his black goop phase after being treated like Caeser? It seems like it would take Adan time to gather up his army and start digging tunnels and such but it seems like Sauron went from black goo to being stuck on a shipwreck REALLY quickly.

It is also such lame deus ex machina that he happened to run into a stranded Giladeril, his arch enemy, in the middle of an ocean.

Also Elrond being uninjured from that jump.. come on man!

Enjoying it overall but that timeline seems super accelerated and the writing (not the dialogue but the story itself) seems a bit lame.

Hes been positive about multiple projects.

Hell one of his best videos is where he does an in-depth analysis of "Falling Down" and what makes that film so incredible and it was really well done on his part.

He had a series that he used to do titled Critical Drinker Recommends. Not sure if he still does it or not.

He still does this all the time.

He also has good reviews for lots of shows and movies. He just usually calls out crappy and woke stuff, which just happens to be the majority of what we're getting these days.

I wondered the same thing. But I'm guessing it was a while before he was "reincarnated" into the black spaghetti. Because wasn't Galadriel searching the globe for him for decades? And she was finally forced to give up her search, and that's how she wound up on the ship in the first place?

Watched all 3 episodes. I know that Sauron is the ultimate deceiver, but man Celebrimbor comes across as so dumb.

Why did that eagle show up in Numenor? It was a little (ok, a lot) too convenient.

Did anyone else catch when Nori and Poppy were with the "Stranger", and they said "it's because you haven't found your gand yet, right?"

I thought that was an interesting word choice. Intentional?

Yeah, I guess we still don't know for sure who he is, but they keep dropping hints to make you think it might Gandalf? I'm about 80/20 that it is Gandalf.

Similarly with the dark wizard, it definitely gave a Saruman vibe, but I'm 20/80 it's him.

Shows definitely try so hard to fake you out these days, so who knows. Any other's thoughts on these two?

It's been a long time since season 1 finished, but I thought we all but "knew" it was Gandalf.

Whoever the person is in Rhun or wherever is, as far as I know, a brand new character?

I'm thinking "The Stranger" is Saruman. Don't know why, just a feeling I have.

Saruman wasn't a fan of hobbits though, if I recall. Gandalf was the one that had such an affinity for them. Which is why I tend to not think it's Saruman.

The Stranger works best when you have no feeling.

Guaranteed those 2 have smoked some pipe-weed and got it on Mirkwood style.

I kind of enjoyed the first season. It is always fun to have stories from Tolkien's universe. But, I have really enjoyed the first two episodes of the second season.

I have enjoyed the friendship/rivalry/disagreements between Elrond and Galadriel. Elrond rises above temptation and shows why in the Third Age he is a sought after elven leader in Rivendale (maybe the top elf). The story is also setting Galadriel up to not be bad (certainly not evil), but tainted by temptation for the ring of power and a drive for revenge for her brother's death.

It's set up to show why in the Third Age Galadriel is isolated with a loyal band of warlike elves jealously guarding their isolated realm. Rather than part of Elrond's council. It makes sense why Galadriel is so happy she is able to withstand the temptation of the one ring but it is a real struggle for her. Elrond never shows a desire for the one ring.

I also really enjoyed the rivalry with Adar and Sauron.

Lots of things to enjoy in these first episodes and the production values for season two seem to be better as well.

Interesting thought. I never considered any difference between Rivendell and Lothlorien. Doesn't Elrond eventually take the ring Gil Galad has in the show?

I believe Elrond has the elf king's ring, but he only wears it once Sauron is defeated. Elrond doesn't seem to be tempted by the rings like many of the other elf leaders

The three Elven rings don't really corrupt the user like the Nine or the Seven. While the One Ring was with Sauron, the Three could not be used, but once the One was lost, the Three could be used with relative safety. Galadriel used Nenya to maintain Lothlorien and Gandalf used Narya to inspire Men and Elves throughout the Third Age; it's unclear whether Elrond used Vilya, but he likely did in order to protect Rivendell. Once the One Ring was destroyed, the Three lost their power, as did the Seven and the Nine.

Man, I love Tolkien's legendarium.
