I think Tom is more like an old grandad. He's been around the block, done all kinds of stuff and is now ready to just relax and enjoy what he likes. All these young whipper snappers are running all around chasing skirts and ready to take down the man and he's just watering his tomatoes thinking, "meh whatever. Best theory I've come across so far regarding who Halbrand really is:
He's the King of the Dead. He, Galadriel, Elendil, and Isildur, leave Numenor to ME. Galadriel and possibly Isildur help him assume Kingship of his people. Then when Isildur calls him to join a battle, Halbrand refuses and is cursed by Isildur. That's the most likely story line with what's been shown of his story.
He isn't Sauron because Sauron goes to Numenor to corrupt the Numenoreans against the Valar. At this point in the series, they are already corrupted.

I get an Ewok vibe during the Harfoot scenes. They're cute simpletons who are supposed to appeal to children. Hopefully they'll play a more significant role in later episodes, or at least set a path that makes Bilbo and Frodo possible.
I had no idea the Harfoots and Dwarves were taking shots at regional sections of the UK. I guess it's not just Americans who see that sort of thing everywhere in media.
Harfoots are ****ing loyal as long as you don't fall behind during the migration. It is laughable. Might make sense if they presented the peril that they face during migration... maybe we are about to get a glimpse into that? When they said decaravanned, I couldn't stop laughing at how ridiculous it was.

Just finished a rewatch of The Fellowship of the Ring Extended version on HBO Max. I can't believe this movie was made over 20 years ago. Every rewatch, it gets better and better. I don't follow the books but after watching the first 3 episodes of the Rings of Power, It makes the first movie better. The scene where they are trying to open the door to Moria by solving the riddle makes more sense after seeing younger Elrond attempting to enter Khazad-dm.

Morgoth had 7 Balrogs at most - 2 killed in the Fall of Gondolin (Glorfindel soloed up and got incredible loot). So if the Balrog in the trailer isn't Durin's Bane, then I guess there's another Balrog hanging out in some really dark place.Quincey P. Morris said:

That's the Tom Bombadil of what, a thousand years later, though.
But after reading some more of this thread and being reminded of more of his background, I agree he doesn't fit. The only thing that made me think of him initially is his uniqueness and his not being aligned with a side.
Most likely a blue wizard or Gandalf as most suspect.

Tolkien contradicted himself regarding the number of Balrogs. In other writings, he listed their numbers as much larger.

When they arrive at Moria, Gimli is clearly expecting to be greeted and hosted by the dwarves there, right? But once inside, it looks like they've been dead for ages.
How did no one know that the dwarves were all dead and the Orcs had taken over Khazad Dum (however it's spelled)

I don't understand the point of introducing meteor man's character so early in the series if we're not gonna find out who he is or what he's there for until a later season.
Part of Gimli's mission for going to Elrond and then with the Fellowship was to find out what happend to Balin and the Dwarves that went back to Moria...as no one had heard from them in a while.
Timeline says Balin died in Third Age 2994, and Frodo entered Moria in 3019, so close to 30 years.AgE2theBONE said:

I don't really get why people are bothered by this. I thought it was fantastic to look at a tribal people who are vulnerable to lots of danger (remember they are child sized) and need to get from one safe haven to another in a limited time. Basically if you fall behind you are left behind. Heck it happened during American wagon trains to Oregon. Why would we be shocked it happens here?

I have a random question too after watching the Extended Version of The Return of the King. Why did Legalos kill Grima after he stabbed Sarumon? It seemed unnecessary. Is that hiw he died in the books?
