The reveal that the retired CIA guy had been pulling some of the strings this whole time is interesting … not sure why he'd really care enough about his mistakes being revealed at this stage in life that he'd be willing to kill two of his "sons."
I just now realized the Machiavellian old CIA man, the really old man, is played by Joel Grey.
It's strange that he doesn't talk about his third son, Remo Williams.

But nobody can put his daughter in a corner

Now I guess I'm not so sure which character the series title refers to.

I can't wait to see Bridges put a bullet between the eyes of that snot-nosed CIA agent.

This series, especially this episode, asks a lot of questions about what it means to be a parent. That makes me believe even more in my theory about Emily's/Angela's true parentage.

I think Angela/Emily's true parentage has been fairly well telegraphed too.

Also too funny that Harper refers to Bote as the "old man".

I can suspend a lot of belief in the process of a good story...but like a lot of shows I think this one suffers from trying to be too tangled up and the story suffers.

The airplane dialogue - no way they would have that conversation in an unsecured place. They would definitely assume someone would be listening.

And unless Zoe turns out to be the Old Old Man's asset, her presence is way overdone. If they needed a vehicle for explaining the past, fine - but I agree with the others who feel she is a misfit.

I only watched half of last nights episode.

I was reasonably sure the title of the series was referring to Bridges until the last episode.

I really like the show. And I like Zoe's role. It's a really good story if you don't try to over analyze or over think it.

Yeah, I'm still enjoying it. I don't mind Zoe's character and the interplay between the mains is keeping my interest.

Zoe totally has to be a plant from Botes. Guess we'll see soon enough, depending on how they end the season next week.

This, aside from a few things, I'm thoroughly enjoying it. Glad I am not cursed with a hyper left-brain and am able to enjoy art work that isn't 100% perfect and in-line.

What if she was tasked with keeping him at the inn so that he could be easily killed. And shocked when he was able to fight off his would be killers/captors? She totally could be a CIA asset who is just acting and using the same tactics Jeff Bridges thinks he's teaching her…I.e how to spot peoples weaknesses and vulnerabilities and capitalize on them. Prob not the case and I'm trying to think of anything I may have missed that would shoot this theory down, but it would be an interesting twist.

Yeah I'm thinking season 2 should just be about how Zoe is now empowered and what she does with half of Chase's I'll-gotten gains.

Besides paying her kid's tuition of course.

One thing that possibly undermines this theory is you would expect that, with their connections, one of the other characters (Lithgow, Bridges' daughter, Hamzid's attorney) would either know that or have suspicions about her.

I agree, and I think Angela's kidnapping is a ruse to help her real dad kill her two fake dads. I am not spoiler tagging because this is purely a guess.

Also how would they know where Chase was going to run to? They just happened to insert her at the one place he headed for?

I had speculated that annoying FBI agent is Hamzad's son or heir.

When he arrived he did say he thought the rest of the property was unoccupied. Then she asked if it was a problem and he was forced to say "no, it's fine".

As far as how would they know where he was headed - they use "magical intelligence powers" all the time in these shows.

Put me in the camp that Angela/Emily is the warlord's daughter...though I didn't consider she was in cahoots with him...but that seems a good possibility.

I don't think Zoe is a cia asset but I do think Dan purposely chose her. The property vacancy was a ruse for him. She "looks" like his wife from afar, if you'd never met her in person. He needs a "wife" to pull off his plan. She's vulnerable and broke. Perfect choice. IMO.

He needs a "wife" to seem legit. A single man his age skulking around is creepy. She legitimatizes him. I got that vibe episode before last when she joins him on the airplane. She's been wealthy and knows how to play the part. I could be wrong. He could've been duped

I sure hope they have some sort of conclusion to the current storyline and not just a cliffhanger with the upcoming season finale. I still generally like the show, but it has certainly lost a lot of momentum from the first couple of episodes ("Any more you send to me I'm sending back in bags. Anyone you send to my kid, I'm sending back in pieces."). I feel they had about a season's worth of material, but added a lot of fluff with Zoe to stretch it out over two seasons. I've seen other shows make this mistake.

I don't know if he planned that from the very beginning, but I agree its probably occurred to him at some point and that's why he's still lugging her around. And if it hasn't then he's a pisspoor CIA agent and its poor writing.

Exactly how I feel. It never did live up to the expectations from the first episode, and I was a bit disappointed with a cliffhanger ending. I guess I'll watch season 2, but I won't be waiting in anticipation.

I knew Emily/Angela was Hamzad's daughter, but I figured Abbey was pregnant when she fled. When she arrives at Hamzad's compound and gets out of the car, does the hate in her eyes remind anyone of "Afghan Girl" from the Nat Geo cover?

To be honest when she got out of the car I half expected Ron Howard narration..."On the next The Old Man, Dan tries to patch things up with Hamzad and Maybe wonders if she'll ever get back to Langley."

I thought it was known Emily was alive when they ran? In one of the first flashback scenes you can see her mom holding her in the background.

Strong start and fizzled like crazy. Too much Zoe, who ultimately was nothing but filler and not critical to the outcome at all. And one could see the possibility of Emily being Faraz Hamzad's kid coming from a mile away. The whole season built up to this being a "Wow" moment and there was nothing surprising about it

I assumed she was Hamzad's the entire time…

Show really fizzled. Should have been 1 season to complete this story line.
