BTW, did the live FX version throw the F-bomb? I didn't think FX allowed that.

I think that taboo on basic cable is gone. Noticed it on "Yellowstone" and some FX series when I still had cable. Same with boobs.

i've been hearing F bombs on FX, TNT, and USA for a while. Y: the last man was the first time i saw nudity on cable tv like that.

Really digging it as well. Anything with Jeff Bridges in it, I'm watching.

Damn, I'm kind of glad they are only releasing it in weekly installments. I would stay up all night to binge it were all the episodes available.

And that's what I loved about full season releases. Those shows that just grab you and make you stay up all night binging it even though you know you should go to bed. The wife and I stayed up until 3 am binging the first season of Strange Things.

Damn these weekly releases!

Anyway, the pilot of this show is flat out one of the best pilots I've ever seen. That fight scene was incredible, precisely because it was the opposite of what hollywood usually does. No fancy choreographed karate moves, just two tough as **** guys trained to fight because their lives actually do depend on it....punching, kicking, elbowing, gauging, hair pulling, biting. And the camera work was just ****ing awesome. I have no idea how they film scenes like that crash from inside the car and just keep the camera rolling and the actors go straight into more fighting.

I love weekly releases because the show threads are so much better.

The taboo/prohibitions were gone two decades ago on Comedy Central with South Park. Same with partial nudity (lol at that description from my Cinemax 80s days), albeit with different shows.

The requirements were 1) cable and not network television; and 2) at night.

2 complaints:

1) No way would that chick be interested in such an an old geezer
2) No way could such an old geezer kick that much ass hand-to-hand.

But still entertaining.

Amy Brenneman will be 58 tomorrow. They might as well be a year or two apart in college for all that age difference matters.

58 vs 72? Do you live in Alabama?

(Not to mention she is far too attractive for that nonsense)

Saw the beginning of this thread yesterday so I told my wife we needed to watch the show. 2 episodes in and we are hooked. Looking forward to seeing how the story plays out.

The dude definitely does not abide. Man, what a great pair of episodes.

Boy did they do a great job of finding young actors to portray Lithgow and Bridges (especially Lithgow). A lot of times when shows portray younger versions it takes you out of the moment.

My only issue is with the second episode where they get pulled over and they do the tired trick of OMG he just shot them and her!!! It's cheap and they don't need to resort to that. I know they were trying to show what was going through his mind but maybe stop it after the two cops or just use a different technique rather than what amounts to a jump scare.

I think it was him going through the consequences in his mind. He realized that by shooting them, there was no way to avoid shooting her. So he chose to not do any of it. And BTW, sticking with her was sort of a mistake on his part, since that is how they apparently got their next step in tracking him down.

I get why they did it...I'm just saying it's a cliche way of showing it. Bridges is a great actor...let his face emote what's going on is his head and let audience follow along rather than go for the flash of "we just killed off the 3rd headliner of this series!!! Ha ha...psyche!!!

The future scenes snippets after Episode 2 had Brenneman character saying something along the lines of having plenty of resources...at odds with her alleged inability to pay her son's tuition. Do you think she's some kind of asset in the greater game? I assume in a spy show like this no one is what they initially appear.

You could have done that and then have a shot of her face, then a shot of him putting the knife back up. I think the point was that otherwise that episode would have been actionless, and this spiced it up. You get to see that his character is thinking through the consequences, can see that he has the capability ruthless even with the innocent, but decides against it at this point.

The girl working for Harold is Chase's daughter, right? It seems so obvious that I'm surprised they haven't revealed it yet.

Did the actor who played past Lithgow do his own dialogue or did they get Lithgow himself to record that and then dub it? Because it sounds almost too perfect.

Has to be. Will set up an interesting dynamic ala "The Departed"....the daughter being hunted as a mole within the department & Bridge's character being hunted on the outside.

I sorta hope not. That reveal would be too predictable at this point.

I dont think it ruins the show if they reveal it. It would be a cool storyline.

There was way too much lingering on her face when the ops guy was talking about a man that was killing Russians in the night and terrorizing the countryside (Chase). The way the scene was shot wouldn't make much sense other than to emphasize who she likely is.

I didn't think about that possibly being his daughter I figure his wife was either the warlords daughter or wife though and he stole her away and that is the reason for the grudge.

I guess.

I just thought she looked a little surprised about who her boss is, and him not being completely honest with her about the situation. dont think it necessarily means the connection you guys said...but I could see that too. However, why the surprised pan face? Wouldnt she already know?
aTmAg

I hope it's not his daughter. It doesn't make a lot of sense. He wouldn't call her and tell her "they found me." and then leave it at that. He would call her and ask her "can you figure out what they know about me?" or something. She would be his major inside source.

For a serious answer, I thought one of the things Lithgow had her working on was finding his daughter? I thought there was a picture of her as well that they showed in the last episode in that file he handed her.

I kind of wondered that myself. They sure nailed the look of a younger Lithgow with the actor they hired. Not quite as good with the younger Jeff Daniels. I guess I wasn't paying close enough attention, but it took me a bit to realize the diner scene was a flashback.

As for the theories of the daughter, for the time being she only appears as a voice on the phone.

He mentions he knew she was the one even though it was complicated and he had to wait. Also the wife had an accent in the dinner scene.
