Also, don't know if this has been posted, but I always enjoy this guy's channel. Gets very nerdy on the theory side of things, but love how he breaks some of this down. May be interesting to my fellow musician friends:
"We're really doing this. This is ridiculous."

I wanted to like it, but couldn't get past the casual wokeness of the dialog and themes of the movie:
1) All older white guys are proven to be corrupt and not worthy of their station
2) All pure characters were POC (Mayor, CW & Gordon)
3) Baddies ended up being stereotypical white message board 'gun nuts'
4) Batman was an analog for the police crisis we had a couple years ago and started out feared by everyone and was only ultimately redeemed when he learned to be a servant of the people and not an instrument of justice/enforcement.
I only watched it last night and that was my immediate response. Maybe I have a bad take, but I didn't end the movie with a desire to watch it again.

Hmm, yes, very insightful rebuttal. I'll ponder on that.DallasTeleAg said:Wow...chilidogfood said:

All older white guys? Sergeant Bock wasn't, and neither were a lot of the white cops. Alfred was white and innocent. Bruce was white and innocent. The face painted gang at the beginning of the movie were all people of color.
Catwoman was definitely NOT "pure". She stole money and broke into a crime scene and straight up shot at Falcone with the intent to kill. She makes one off hand comment that is supposed to take Batman off guard (since he's one of the rich white guys she's talking about).
Are you surprised that Gordon was "pure"? He has been "pure" in every iteration, including the JK Simmons (white guy) version in the DCEU (showing up in Batgirl later this year). Was in the Nolan trilogy, the movies in the 90's, Batman '66, the Gotham tv show, etc. That had ZERO to do with color.
The Riddler gang message board stuff was Riddler weaponizing people with the idea of vengeance, which was supposed to have Bruce realize he needs to alter his mission and go about it another way. He accidentally inspired The Riddler, who purposefully inspired his goons. They weren't spouting off any conspiracy theory crap.
Batman was just straight up Batman. This is the most comic accurate acting Batman in cinematic history. His Bruce isn't, but his Batman very much is. Matt Reeves loves the character too much to let him be an analogue to anything. He didn't know which police he could trust other than Gordon, and was proven right with the Kenzie situation. After Falcone was taken down he could see he could trust a larger amount of cops than before. He even sort of befriends Officer Martinez, who helps him solve The Riddler's final clue (albeit too late).
People see what they want to see, I guess.

Thank goodness someone finally made a Batman movie that got some viewers.
I just wish a film director would give us some hint of what happened to his parents. Are they on a long vacation?AgfromHOU said:fig96 said:Dupree said:

Definitely an underrated and unknown character. I'm glad he's getting his time to shine.
His parents were in the movie, like a teenager, he rarely acknowledged their existence and basically treated them like the help.helloimustbegoing said:I just wish a film director would give us some hint of what happened to his parents.
