Bowen Yang is easily the best part of this cast, imo. Though I think Andrew Dismukes is rising quickly. And Ego (the woman cutting the steak) is fantastic as well.
Agree with everyone saying last night's show was the best in awhile. Who knew Pedro Pascal could be so funny? Fast forwarded through both Coldplay songs; they've gotten to where every song sounds the same. Also thought the news was a drag.

I think they could use new Weekend Update anchors, Jost and Che have got a little stale.
Been a huge defender of SNL for years and have loved every cast for the most part and try to give each a chance to bring something new to the table. But I just can't with anything Bowen Yang is in. Dude is so terribly unfunny that he can actually ruin anything he's in.

Agreed. Granted, i'm seemingly more pessimistic than you when it comes to the rest of the cast for the last several years.

Bowen Yang is so terrible I'm convinced it's a multi year meta bit by the SNL writers.
Bowen Yang has a lot of talent and has some really good skits. Unfortuantely when he got elevated to a regular player, they have made every skit he's in about being gay instead of letting him just be a good comedian.

Once a skit hits, they are basically forcing it into every future episode for that cast member.
It would be interesting to learn if he writes his own skits ever, or if he is just doing the performances only
I listened to the Rewatchables podcast about Austin Powers yesterday and they were talking about how unusual Mike Myers' arrival was mid-season on SNL and how he already had these fully formed characters - Wayne, Deeter, Philip - and he basically wouldn't jump to the beat of them to force it into every episode - if he didn't have a really great idea for the skit he would balk. Of course that episode also talked about how difficult a large # of people find him to work with, but it was still an interesting comparison to how SNL usually is.

This is a simplistic response. I find a lot funny and have found something funny in every SNL cast, even through some widely panned casts.I'm not one of these people who thinks it was so much better in same past decade. I even found Nora Dunn funny and that was a lot to ask. But Bowen Yang just sucks. Really, really sucks.

I like Woody Harrelson, but that had to have been one of the worst SNL monologues I've ever seen. Unfortunately, the rest of the show wasn't much better.

It was a train wreck before even that bit. I've never cringed throughout an entire monologue before.
There have been some very cringeworthy SNLs over the past 20 years. That wasn't amazing but also not a flop. Quite on par for hosts in my opinion.
