I read a chunk of the City of of the Gods script a while back - written by Frank Darabont (The Shawshank Redemption) - and what I remember was really good. There are a lot of ideas in it that found their way into Crystal Skull, but it's apparently the good version of that movie, as everyone but Lucas wanted to make it. As for the other two scripts, I haven't read them, but apparently they didn't get made for more obvious reasons.

1. Still have Indy vs Nazis, finishing the job
2. Can have adventures in the local jungles where any collected artifacts are either destroyed or stored away "for eternity"
Could even tap in to a silly conspiracy theory and have Indy run into a street bum who bears a striking resemblance to Adolf Hitler.
There kind of comes a point where storylines have so many crossovers between series'. But really, who cares, it's the adventure that I love.

Just have some storyline where Indy is having to fight something in the 70's but have the majority of the movie (80%) be a flashback with someone playing a younger Indiana Jones fighting against something in the 30's. Tie the stories together somehow and kill off old Indy at the end to save the world. It'll piss off fans who can't picture Indy without Harrison, but you're going to have to cross that path at some point if the goal is to continue the franchise. Then you can tell more stories with the younger Indy.
On a random note, did anyone ever watch the Librarian movies on TBS back in the mid 2000's? Fun watches that damn near copied the premise of Indy. I wouldn't expect any where close to the same quality of Indiana Jones' movies, but they were fun little adventure/lore movies.

Why not have Indy look for the fountain of youth in order to stop former nazis from finding it to restart the 3rd reich? Then Indy is made younger by the fountain into a younger version of himself that allows him to be reboot and recast?
I like that plot, but I'd rather it de-age Harrison Ford to himself from Raiders, because god knows there's enough footage of him to make it look flawless. Then he decides to hang it up and live a real life with young Marion or whatever, and whomever the side kick is in the movie, he puts the hat on his head and says "I'm going to live this life as Henry ... your turn to be Indiana Jones"Bo Darville said:

Crystal skull ruined the franchise. Not easy to salvage. Fighting nazis in Argentina seems lazy and obvious.
-Russians are a great villain concept but in crystal skull they sucked

For the first time since the theater, I rewatched Ford vs Ferrari over the weekend, and it was not only even better the second time around (seriously, it's so damn good), it got me way more excited for Indy 5 than I probably should be. It's just that Mangold shoots the hell out FvF - every frame looks incredible; it has such a classic, sun-kissed, big-movie sheen - that you can so easily see applied to an Indy movie, which should also take place roughly around the same time period as FvF (late '60s/early '70s). So if Mangold can replicate that same look/vibe, and bring a fresh energy to Indy while still honoring what came before, there's a *chance* we could have something special on our hands. Either way, at this point in their respective careers, I legit think Mangold is a better choice to helm than even Spielberg. I just have a feeling that the guy behind Walk the Line, Logan, and Ford vs Ferrari might very well knock this out of the park. Time will tell, though, with filming beginning any day/week now.

I hope to enjoy any future installments, and being that the next will be directed by the guy who did Logan and Ford v Ferrari (and I see he did the remake of 3:10 to Yuma), I expect the new IJ will be in good hands. It's actually Harrison Ford that concerns me. I was joking with my now 29-year-old son back in about 2004-5 that if that 4th movie ever got made, would Ford be carrying a walker rather than a whip?
Crystal Skull's biggest problem was taking a pre-WWII character and putting him in the Cold War. You can jab it over the refrigerator scene, but do you also take any issue with diving out of a crashing airplane in a freaking life raft? The aliens thing was, on the surface, outside of normal expectations for an IJ story, but I'm thinking that's not too far removed from spirits emerging from the Ark of the Covenant. Shia Le-whatever the f his name is, eh, I never really got the hate for him but I also don't give him too much thought for pretty much anything. Other than Crystal Skull and the eye-candy-laden Transformers, what has he been in? Only thing I can come up with is Eagle Eye, which I found to be rather an entertaining movie when I watched it recently. His character in Crystal Skull was interesting enough, not an annoying brat like Short Round or a screeching blonde like Willie the dancer. Had Spielberg actually allowed him to take the fedora at the end of Crystal Skull, I would have instantly hated that, but otherwise his character was alright.
I think the movie is like the Star Wars prequels - something else to pile on for TexAgs posters.

Shia Labeouf is super talented but also pretty crazy.
He got his start doing a kids show where he had an unusual amount of charisma and acting ability. Went to leading movie roles. Then had a weird political... I don't know, living art project? Anyway, it turned into an amusing running battle with 4/Chan, and that period of his life is where he lost some folks with his political views.
He seems like a basically good person who doesn't have a strong hold on reality. He's really good in Fury.
