I don't mind it so much, but here in Texas it wouldn't bother me if it were reversed , where it got dark sooner in the summertime so it cools off quicker at the end of the day.

If Rey heard the "myth" of Luke Skywalker - as she references in TFA - then the downfall of "the Emperor" or "Palpatine" or "Darth Sidious" was no doubt part of that myth. Whatever name he's commonly known by, the man responsible for the fall of the Republic and rise of the Empire, even if 30 years later, would still be commonly known, I'm sure. I think Muck hit on an interesting point there that we as the audience know who he is by sight and sound, but none of our main characters do. He could conceivably come to them as some kind of mentor without revealing who he is, which isn't something I had originally considered.

he might not disgusied in front of them, but there is a precedent for him adopting a disguise. In the second to last episode of Rebels, he appears the way he did before the Windu/Lightning incident in a hologram to Ezra. Even though Ezra has seen his "true" face, he is really tempted by what Palps is offering.




What if Rey finds him looking like Naboo Palps and he tells her Luke Skywalker wanted him to finish her training? Because if he looks like ROTJ Sheev, nobody in hell is coming within 50 feet of that guy, he's a train wreck.

Rewatched TFA and TLJ back to back the other night in prep for RoS. Man TLJ was tough to get through. The third act was ok but I forgot how bad the first 2 thirds of the movie was.

This is 'normal time' though. Like, if we didn't have daylight savings at all it would get darker earlier all year.

Before soap and toothpaste were invented, not having either one was "normal." It was also once "normal" to ride horses to get from point A to point B.

To bring this thread back, an entire committee of the galactic republic must be dedicated to figuring out the time situation. What a bureaucratic nightmare that would be to figure out.

I'm with TCTTS. I'd prefer it if we stayed in DST all year. Getting dark at 5PM is dumb.

I'm sure they use a universal time. Would be impossible with so many different planets orbiting different suns. There would be no way to align everything.

Why not just make DST the Standard?

I prefer light in the morning. Simplest answer - shorten the work day by several hours.

Yes, move time forward in the spring and never touch it again. I understand not liking it being dark when you wake up for work, but I feel the same way after work. When it's dark by 5:30 PM, it already feels like the day is over when you're done with work. That, and there are kinds of studies about how it's literally safer when it gets darker later; fewer people being robbed or jumped when it's still light outside and they're walking back to their cars, etc. It's also just psychological for me. It's just depressing when the day is "over" so much earlier. California actually passed a proposition in 2018 to allow a bill that would switch the state to permanent daylight savings time. Fingers crossed, but it sounds like it's finally going to be passed in 2020 and I cannot wait...

It would have to be arbitrary like using Greenwich time. Just pick a location like the Senate Hall and whatever time it is there is the time everywhere. And for people that spend a lot of time in space, night and day probably isn't as big a deal for them as it is for us. The time is what it is.

Space would be easy, it's the planets that would be a problem. Every planet rotates a little faster/slower than the others.

I think you'd have to rethink the entire concept of how we measure time.

Up on the east coast, it would get dark by 4:15 pm or so. It was brutal.

To me there are just too many holes/problems. The biggest is the idea that Rey would allow herself to become a slave and then die alone in the desert...

What if Shmi and Rey are from the same clone/gene pool? As in, what if Palpatine (or his master) created Shmi in the same way it's being speculated that he created Rey? And Palpatine (or his master) created Shmi to Force-birth Anakin?

Then, time travel can be involved or not. Maybe Rey is sent back in time somehow at the end, but she chooses a different path (not to have Anakin), and it's not a closed loop. Or, you don't involve time travel, but maybe Palpatine wants to send Rey back, but she somehow breaks free and kills him?

Again, the chances of any of this actually happening are less than 1%, it's just fun to speculate.

That said, there HAS to be some kind of Anakin/Rey connection via Palpatine. I don't think they'd bring back Palpatine otherwise. I'm not saying that connection involves time travel, but I'd be genuinely surprised if Anakin and Rey weren't "created" by similar means.

Man... you could get really out there with this and create an ending that would cause people to set fire to theaters around the country.

The entire Skywalker saga was created because of this time loop, but time time Rey wins, Palpatine can't send her back AND EVERYTHING WE'VE EVER SEEN HAPPEN IN THESE MOVIES NEVER HAPPENED.

But I'm out on basically any theories involving time travel. I just can't imagine any way that that's what JJ and his team land on. Doing a time travel thing in movie nine, when it's never been talked about in the movies at all, just seems like the writers basically throwing up their hands and giving up.

But, I'm definitely with you on the connection between Rey and Anakin. I don't really have a whole theory that puts those pieces together yet, but I'm feeling that.

Kylo ren ends up taking shmi to the enchantment under the sand dance in mos espa.

Not in this case, though. It'd be just like Endgame. New/different timeline. The past still happened.
