Best show on television since Mad Men. Hands down. Just an absolutely masterful episode. So tense. So damn good. What a set up for the season finale.

Its just amazing to me that the same show has Tom and Greg scenes and then has a scene like the one with Shiv and the victim. Its amazing its able to do both so well.

Great point. I don't know how they do it, but they do both so well.

Shiv was amazing in that scene, btw.

Sarah Snook has been really good this entire season. Almost certainly has to get an Emmy nom.

Loved the episode again. Incredible job.

Can someone that knows explain the hostage situation? I couldn't figure out who the hostage takers were and what they wanted. Maybe that was the intent and we were just supposed to witness the absurdity of doing a billion dollar business transaction in the middle of a hostage crises as sort of a comedic backdrop?

I'm as confused as you are on the exact mechanics/politics of it, and I might be wrong about this, but it also seemed to add to the stakes for the Roys. During the hostage situation, Roman gives his word that there would be no problems going forward, should the deal go through. Yet, with no phone or communication, he's insulated from what's going down at the hearing, a hearing that is at that very moment spelling massive trouble for Waystar. So Roman could very well be giving the hostage takers a thumbs up while, unbeknownst to him, his family's company is on fire.

Here's my take on that situation, it was to illustrate that getting involved with these people and this area of the world is problematic to say the least. Plus, think about this show in general, there's never an easy solution to their problems. If the Roys take the money from this part of the world it's far from an easy solution and the strings attached will be significant.

This was a huge episode for Shiv, Kendall, and Roman...they all stepped up. Shiv prevented the derailment of the train. That was my whole issue is they got pulled in front of Congress for allegations without anything specific, their insider only knew of rumors and nothing first hand, the victim was their only real problem as it made allegations concrete.

Kendall stepped up and went on the offensive when Logan tried to filibuster, illustrating Gil has an axe to grind, nothing further. Also ironically pointing out that news in the US isn't run by the state, while Roman is trying to secure funding from a part of the world that thinks differently.

I knew Rhea was out the second she refused to get out of the car and talk to the victim, they telegraphed that one, but they needed to. This is how they bring everything back to the family question of who succeeds Logan? Shiv got the victim to back out, putting out the fire. Kendall protected his dad and company on the biggest stage, and Roman is on the cusp of securing the funding to take the company private.

My favorite moments might have been Connor though. The guy walking up and telling him there are lots of Con-heads there in Washington made him happy, but the best was when Kendall was dishing it out on camera you could see him fist pumping, greatness. Also, Tom and Greg just keep the hits coming, him being questioned took awkwardness to another level.

Once again, Succession keeps going up and up, no signs of slowing down.

But didn't all the Waystar folks seem content after the hearings? They all met at the bar for drinks and cheered when Logan/Kendall walked in the room. That was kind of confusing to me - Tom was a disaster up there, Logan started to fumble his words, Kendall has his little "state media" speech but then they just cut to them all celebrating like they all killed it. Nonetheless, it was a solid episode.

I enjoyed this exchange between Roman and Logan.

Logan: Putting your d*** in there is easy, its getting them into the bed that's hard.
Roman: For some...

I really like what they've done with Roman this season. Still out there, but not a paper thin caricature like I thought he was in season 1. It was also good to see Kendall find his balls; guessing Pierce chick may have helped with that. There are lots of interesting angles they could take with that relationship into season 3.

Anyone else think for a split second that when you saw Naomi show up to the hearing, that we were going to get a cardboard poster with his dick pic on it during the Gil's time for questioning? I mean, Kendall was with a different girl last episode and we had no info that he had gotten back with Naomi.....

Acting and dialogue is still top notch, but I feel like we're drifting into a little too much "Monster of the Week" type story-telling with the Pierce family, then Rhea, then Congress.

Yes, for sure. But if you saw the preview for next week's episode, they're still a long way from being out of the weeds. That said, it was just a guess, hence my "I might be wrong about this."

Haven't gotten that impression at all, simply because it's all 100% organic to everything that has come before. They needed the Pierce family because of the take-over that was set in motion last season. Rhea is obviously an extension of that, and then Congress is directly related to all the cruise stuff that was setup last season as well. Honestly, it's incredible to me how interconnected and organically escalating all of this is. It's just brilliantly executed, IMO.

After last week's episode, I was sure that Logan's brother was the force behind the whistleblower. Since that issue seems to have gone away with no mention of the brother, I guess I was wrong.

As a bachelor at 48, I could do a LOT or very little with $5MM and be quite fine.

This season has been great so far...

It's been a while since I had to pause a show so I could finish laughing at a line (prob since Veep). This one straight up killed me and got funnier the more I tried to think of how glorious it must have been to be the writer who came up with it

Another fantastic episode. This show is on another level right now, and I agree with TC that it's the best show since Mad Men.

- Tom and Connor's take down of Gregg and his $5MM was perfect. Poor Gregg
- Interesting how all 3 main kids succeeded in their own way. Logan seemed to prize Shiv's success the most, but I'm guessing that will change once he hears what Roman was able to do.
- Great casting for the token GOP senator
- "Smirking block of domestic feta"
- I was on Team "Logan is going to die", but now I'm not so sure. I think they'll keep him around for another season, but based on the location of the final episode, I could see something happening to him.

From season one through now, this show has skyrocketed from simply piquing my interest to potential top 10 favorite TV show. Greg and Tom are some of the best characters on TV right now.

I know Greg gets the credit, but Tom is the hero in every scene he's in. I love everything about the "unintentional" comedy of the man. Same with Connor. Somehow, the *******s at HBO have managed to show in the same family both (1) the ruthlessness required to be filthy rich, and (2) the incompetence and out-of-touch-ness that kind of obscene wealth breeds.

Logan/Shiv/Kendall counter-balanced by Tom/Connor/Gregg is such brilliant television.
