I don't really consider them all that similarly. Both great movies though.

Can't believe no one has asked...if you can just kill these things with a shotgun, why any are alive....

Entertaining movie but so many parts were..."uh, why".
This was not lost on me. I whispered this to my wife in the movie theatre. Heck, just shoot them...

Don't like horror, but I saw this a few days ago and LOVED IT. My friend and I were cringing so hard during the more dangerous parts. Awesome. But I think the effect won't be the same if you see it outside the theater.

It's nice not to be beat over the head with dialogue to explain things once in a while, but to rather interpret what is on screen.

well i think it goes like this.....

shoot one = loud noise and then many more come... more than you can possibly shoot. like you saw the frenzy of them coming right at the end......plus it did not kill them as it did not penetrate their skin.

now though they had the feedback loudspeaker device to incapacitate them and it effectively opened them up so you could shoot somewhere that did kill them.. before that you were just signing a death warrant because so many and without the sound thing they were not vulnerable.

1) there were only 2 other creatures in the area (it looked like more because the camera cut between the 'outside' shot and the tv security cam. It was the same 2 monsters running. This is further supported by 'Jim's' whiteboard where he specifically states '3 in the area' (1 was killed by Emily Blunt's character, the other 2 were heading to the house)

2) It's not high frequency that gets them to 'open' their heads. They were shown doing this on multiple instances that weren't related to the hearing aid. They clearly do it whenever they are honing in on their target.

3) It's only a death warrant if you are litterally the only one making a noise (or the loudest noise). A perimeter of noise devices or simply standing next to a waterfall would make you invisible to them. It would be simple to ensnare these creatures once you realize their hunting method (which was clearly discovered and widely known to the public via the newspaper article)

When Itchy plays Scratchy's skeleton like a xylophone, he strikes that same rib twice in succession yet he produces two clearly different tones. I mean, what are we, to believe that this is some sort of a, a magic xylophone or something? Boy, I really hope somebody got fired for that blunder.

$22M third weekend. Made a good amount of money for a low budget thriller, with Avengers about to plow through the BO in a few days.

Saw it tonight. Loved it. An intense ride.

I agree with the statements that the Southerners were making gumbo with the creatures. This was clearly a northern family with inferior firepower and no country boy ingenuity.

I got a mixture of Jurassic Park, Aliens, and Signs from this movie. I hope they don't do a sequel. It's not needed.

Saw this and really liked it, although I agree that these "things" would not be able to survive in a battle against 7 billion humans with tanks and planes and bombs and vision. Same with shows like "The Walking Dead, but I still watched that show (until it started sucking).

Movie has killed it at the box office...$131,270,520 against it's $17 million budget.

Also, if this movie doesn't win best sound editing/mixing at the Oscars it'll be a real disappointment.

We are all going to feel real stupid when they reveal in "2 Quiet 2 Places" that the entire first movie was a "Village" situation, where the problem has been largely eradicated and there were just small pockets of people who still didn't realize how to beat these things.

It was entertaining and well-acted and everything, but my wife and I were both in the "that's it?" camp when they distract/bother it with a noise and shoot it with a Walmart 12-gauge.

Honestly, if we knew these things hunted by sound, we'd have exhausted every potential auditory onslaught from white noise to FL-GA Line. And we would've tried using way more powerful weapons and more sophisticated trapping/killing techniques.

Also, a little too similar to Signs... Aren't we lucky that your quirk/handicap/whatever-makes-you-special-and-unique is the exact thing mankind needs to kill the specific enemy we happen to be facing at the moment and save the world. How fortunate.

We just caught this a few days ago. I thought it was an excellent movie. Tons of suspense the whole time. It was very well thought out and executed. As a result of it being so good two things really bothered me:

1)where did they get the sand for their paths? That was never explained.
2) how can the alien cut through a silo in a split second, but not get into a truck with the two kids? That one was more of an eye roll than an actual question.

Minor issues, I know. But, with a movie of it's caliber those things bothered me.

I recommend watching this movie. 8.5 out of 10.

This was no Babadook. I enjoyed the acting of the parents and the older boy particularly. I had a hard time understanding how these creatures with an obvious weakness would have defeated militaries worldwide.

And getting pregnant was a countdown to doom. Birthdate was death day for the family

Probably because it would be too much walking back and forth to tend the crops. Although with the baby coming soon it would make sense to keep the infant there..

You couldn't kill them. There were several newspaper articles and notes on his board talking about how their skin was impenetrable. The frequency made them vulnerable and exposed a weakness that hadn't been there before.

That's the inconsistency in the entire narrative that I referred to in my first post.

The frequency wasn't being played when she shot it. The frequency made it 'pass out' and they turned off the microphone. When the creature popped back up in classic 'Halloween' fashion, she shot it.
The newspaper clippings showed the freaking military trying and failing to kill them to no avail but all of a sudden a shotgun kills them.
It's really hilarious watching some of you defend this movie like it's some masterpiece that you had a hand in. I don't care what Rotten Tomatoes rates it, it's a mediocre movie that will not hold up as the years go by. Good movies aren't so easily nit-picked as this is.
I don't care if someone has already responded to this. Go see the movie again, it's head is already messed up when it manages to get to its feet, it isn't fully armored anymore. Every single other "nitpick" is easily explained as well. A lot of it is, they are trying to have some semblance of a normal life for their kids, rather than just camping in the woods until they die.

The only other time you see something making a noise nearby, it literally destroys a thick water pipe in a single blow. Good lord this thread sucks. I was excited to talk to some other people about this great movie.

Solar or hydro electric plant that is still running automatically. Nuke plant that hasn't melted down yet. They live in an alternate universe where electricity spontaneously happens. Doesn't matter in relation to the story being told.

The nit picking about inane stuff in this thread is ridiculous. How is it so hard to accept the setting as presented and judge the character interactions as the meat of the film?
