How is it for a 6 year old? He's seen both GOTG, homecoming and the new Thor but those were all pretty tame.
If the 6 year old saw those movies then he will be fine watching this one.

Cool.

It's funny, my 10 year old can't handle intense movies and gets really anxious. My 6 year old is like, "cool explosions!"

Is it me, or did the first scene of Black Panther feel like a gritty reboot of "Coming to America"

They really missed an opportunity to work in Eddie and Arsenio in a Randolph and Mortimer Duke kind of cameo.

I think my biggest unanswered question is whether that black critic who always reviews movies the opposite of all the rest of the critics will review this one negatively. I have a feeling that if he does, he might get strung up.
His ultra negative review is now out.

Black Panther's Circle of Hype

This banal comic-book blockbuster follows Democratic-party 'politricks.' The Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) first infantilizes its audience, then banalizes it, and, finally, controls it through marketing.
...
Now that Marvel Cinematic Universe controls Hollywood's agenda and promotes moviegoers' immaturity, it sets such a low, formulaic bar that Coogler's effort to customize it to his hometown, race-conscious ethos never rises above the escapism of other Marvel junk.

The media's enthusiasm for this bland action flick is maddening. The problem isn't one particular movie, but the celebration of the illusion of "progress." When Hollywood pegs everything in terms of race or gender, it dictates to the masses and keeps them all in a plantation mentality, mindlessly applauding Black Panther as part of the new segregation.

The movie is really good. The insanely deep depiction of Wakanda's culture and religion is the standout. Stunningly beautiful. Whole cast was great and it's hard to pick a #1.

Third act was pretty weak by comparison to the first two. CGI was spotty at times and there was a LOT of it, obviously. I thought the fight choreography was a little slow at times and not incredibly dramatic, but when it was good, it was really good. I wondered if maybe some of the actors we're doing their own stunt work and that's why it seemed a little telegraphed and slow at times.

Very solid Marvel movie. In the highly touted second tier below the very elite films like Iron Man, Guardians, and Winter Soldier. B+ or A, but not the A+ many have claimed.

On the political front, I don't think the writers are getting their due. It's being painted as pretty one sided, but really it was pretty fair. The guy calling for the race war was the villain. Wakanda was nationalist and anti-refugee. Heroes and villains were well represented across racial lines. Thought it hit some hard marks, like Killmonger's final line, but that was hardly unjustified.

I really enjoyed it. Thought the cast did an excellent job of bringing everything together and Chadwick Boseman is great as Black Panther. I'm so glad they really jumped into the culture of Wakanda. Loved the tribal work and the music for the film.

I did think it felt like it was dragging a little at times in terms of pacing, but that altogether it flowed well.

Definitely right there in the 2nd tier for me as well.

I'd say middle of the pack for me in terms of the MCU. Loved the cast and loved the production design, but there was just way too much CGI and magical tech for my taste. That, and while I really liked Boseman in the role - even more than I expected I would - Black Panther's overall arc/goals felt a little flat and unfocused...

In particular, it took forever for any real plot or motivation to kick in. Seemingly BP's only goal at the outset was to simply "be king," and that just didn't feel like enough. Then it finally shifted to "get Klaue" but that ultimately fizzled out and became "be king" again mixed with the generic "save Wakanda." None of it was bad by any means, but because it all kind of meandered a bit, and was more predictable than not, I never felt truly engaged.

That, and while I love Michael B. Jordan, I just did not see the "best Marvel villain ever" that so many others are seeing. He was fine and I understood his motivations, which is more than I can say for most Marvel villains, but he just didn't stand out to me at all.

Anyway, overall I'd say good but not great. Glad I saw it opening weekend with the crowd I did, but I doubt I ever watch it again.

I really enjoyed the movie.

Completely agree with TCTTS spoiler above. I thought the middle third of movie dragged because of the lack of a true villain. I didn't like the direction it was going when 'society' was the villain. That mostly got fixed in final third of film. One of the final scenes when the general chooses country over self, was one of the most powerful moments in a film I've felt in a while.

Good film.

Projecting $213M over the 4-day weekend.

It'll be interesting to see if it has crazy legs like Wonder Woman did last year.

And to put that in further perspective, Justice League topped out at $228M.

BP will beat that within its first week. That's gotta sting.

User scores are even more useless than critic scores. First three bad reviews I read didn't even see the movie.

just saw it. enjoyed it, but it was one of the weaker MCU films IMO.

I thought Klaue was wasted. Briefly introduced in Civil War, then just thrown away part way into BP as a bargaining chip. Was hoping that he would keep turning up like a bad penny. Other than Loki, the MCU is full of throw-away villains. I would've liked to have seen him pop up now and again.

I enjoyed it. I thought this was one of the few Marvel movies where the music and the score were actually done well. I enjoyed the villains. Thought these villains were a little more thought out than most of the MCU throwaways.

I literally can't even think of what instance this is referring to. There were two white guys in this movie. One was a villain and the other was a good guy who the heroes went out of their way to save and protect.

I think he is talking about when Killmonger says they are gonna have the spies kill the foreign leaders and arm the oppressed
TCTTS

I legitimately don't understand this gripe. Nothing even remotely close to that crossed my mind while watching this movie. "Foreign leaders" are of all races and colors. And even if not, it was the VILLAIN who was instigating such a plan, and thus it was looked down upon morally by both the good characters and the filmmakers.

Killmonger said he wanted to arm all people who are their people (black people) because they need to defend themselves from everybody else. I thought it was pretty stupid to be honest.
