Two questions:

1) Who's seeing this when this weekend? Anyone going tonight? (I'm not seeing it until Friday night.)

2) I assume we need to start a spoiler thread and leave this one for general reactions? Isn't that what we decided is standard protocol after the confusion over The Last Jedi thread(s)?
Sunday morning here. And I think tagging spoilers till Monday is fine, then all bets are off.

Between the TLJ thread and the main SW thread, I'd say there were at least ten posts discussing the protocol, if not far more. I don't know how else to let everyone know, and starting a third thread just seems like overkill.

I checked out of the multi hundred page Star Wars thread a long time ago, there's always been two threads for these huge releases, and when there was a thread titled TLJ spoiler thread, it makes sense based on past history of this board that the other thread would be spoiler free.
In this particular case, I think the third "spoiler thread" was the main culprit. I could see how that would cause confusion.

But as far as the big Star Wars thread, I posted several warnings about the TLJ thread becoming the spoiler thread, and everyone was fairly good about keeping spoilers out of that thread. (Except the one ******* who spoiled it and was banned.)

But I don't blame anyone for not keeping up with that thread every day.

I'm seeing it on Sunday morning, as well. I'm fine with using this thread as a spoiler thread and using spoiler tags until Monday, also.

7:30 was sold out, but luckily they added a 7:45 showing.

Ladies and gentlemen, can I please have your attention...

Just so we're crystal clear on this and more people see it, starting in the next few hours, general, non-spoiler Black Panther reactions will be relegated to the official MCU thread. While all spoiler conversation should be reserved for this thread and all spoilers should be appropriately tagged/hidden. However, come Monday, spoiler tags will no longer be required in this thread and all bets are off.

I do think a couple of negative reviews have been posted, but a lot of people are closely monitoring...as a reminder, you can buy tickets for school kids at #blackpantherchallenge

(Unfortunately, there are also some early reports that the hero is "Trumpish.")

That was pretty good. As far as MCU character introductions, it's probably second behind Iron Man for me.

But, nowhere near the level of Winter Soldier, Guardians, or Avengers.

I loved the design and art direction, but I will say the story felt a bit bland and predictable. And the final act was kind of underwhelming.

It's a solid 7/10, but probably not the homerun many people are expecting.

Just kidding.

I am not surprised. So much of the pre-release fawning was focusing on things the movie was to the reviewer, and not the movie itself.

I expect it to be the typical Marvel movie - good, solid, entertaining, and failing to stick an awesome landing.

I read the junior novelization (come at me bro) a few weeks ago, and it really did not have the heavy hooks reviewers were claiming it did, so I am not surprised.

I expect the movie to make bank in the US/Europe, do "OK" in Asia and SAmerica. And now we are 3 months from Infinity War.

That was a near perfect movie! There were no big twists, but rather a great, solid story where you cared about all the characters, including the villain. Michael B Jordan has an incredible knack of grounding his characters to point where you root for him no matter what.

Use of the soundtrack was awesome, great laughs, and some solid action.

Can't wait to see this again!

I quite enjoyed. I don't know where I'd rank it. I think it's comparable to Spider-Man: Homecoming in some ways. I think it may be better but I enjoyed Homecoming more. Personal preference will play a big part I guess.

The MCU has a lot of strong-to-quite-strong.

I think my biggest unanswered question is whether that black critic who always reviews movies the opposite of all the rest of the critics will review this one negatively. I have a feeling that if he does, he might get strung up.

If you're talking about Armond White, he doesn't give a damn about things like that. Not only has he trashed every Marvel movie, he also, despite being black, trashed 12 Years a Slave, Get Out (which he called Get Whitey) and Moonlight. The dude's a troll, I'm pretty sure conservative and thrives on people getting pissy at his reviews. He's the dude that's notorious for ruining Toy Story 3's perfect rating.

I am pretty sure everyone knows he is a troll.

I am just particularly interested in the blowback, if any, from THIS review.

I think this was by far the best acted MCU movie to date. Top 5 MCU movie for me, and Michael B Jordan continues to excel when working with Coogler.

I really enjoyed it. Story was a bit cliche and I could have used a bit more action, but the acting was honestly amazing all around.

Family went and we all enjoyed it overall. As anticipated it should win the Oscar for Virtue Signalling movie of the year. Wish the entertainment industry would just be great writers instead of SJW's. While the entire family loves Michael B Jordan, none of us like the writing of the movie with an antagonist who could beat the Black Panther in the King Challenge. We don't like the narrative set that others can be the super hero. That was poorly conceived in the writing, in our opinion - even though we loved the challenge fight action.

The colors/Cinematography were amazing. Worth the movie just for that. We loved everyone in Wakanda. The tribal elements were awesome.

And for all the "we can't be like those colonizers" I found that ringing hollow considering Wakanda had ZERO immigration, legal or otherwise. In fact, the moment in the movie when the case was being made about not being like our Wakanda ancestors, by sharing the technological advancements - I found it extremely ironic that the primary reason for it being time to do so was because the world was catching up to the technology.

Think about it!

Just saw it... It was a good movie. The visuals were outstanding. The overall theme and story was good... I liked the more serious tone that this movie took, as the last couple of Marvel movies were starting to segue too much into the silly and farcical.

Danai Gurira's character was my favorite by far: she does such a good job bringing her characters to life and having you root for them. Outstanding job.

In a lot of ways, and I don't mean this in a bad way, it felt like Thor 4: a mystical, antique aesthetic against a technological backdrop makes for great visuals.... Wakanda is a lot like Asgard: a veritable Garden of Eden. In that sense, it felt a lot like a long episode of 'Lifestyles of the Rich and Superpowered', and over here we see T'Challa's amazing super flying jet, and over here we see his amazing tech </Robin Leached>

But again, it was a unique experience, and that's what I love about Marvel movies: they each bring something different to the table, so that when they all team up together you really get into the characters.

I give it a B+

Sad to hear he didn't like Toy Story 3 but his assessment of Get Out being "Get Whitey" is positively spot on. Complete and total race baiting SJW nonsense film.

I think my viewing experience was enhanced by avoiding reviews and this thread for the past month. All this talk of SJW and race and so on. Enjoy the movie without caring about virtue signaling or what that one reviewer said or if it's going to be overrated or win oscars or whatever - if you can.

Spawn is forgotten for good reasons. I actually have the movie on DVD. But, it was a really crappy movie with horrible acting. Cool costume through; they should do a remake.

I thought it had the best Cinematography in a Marvel movie to date.

I thought this was the best Acted Marvel movie.

I thought this movie had the most motivated "villain" in a Marvel movie.

I dont know where I rank this overall in the MCU, but I enjoyed this movie more than the recent releases. (Spiderman Homecoming, Thor 3, Guardians 2, Dr Strange, Civil War)

Can't wait for a second viewing!

How is it for a 6 year old? He's seen both GOTG, homecoming and the new Thor but those were all pretty tame.
