Hahaha - the all-seeing eye king needs a spy network. Maybe it's an interim position while he's trying to find Drogon.

I know Martin went on his blog and refuted the claims that he has the books finished. I just don't know why the actor that portrayed Barristan Selmy would randomly make that up, and if it WAS true than Martin's only choice would be to refute it anyways.

Sansa ruling the North.

Arya going west. (Knew she would end the series this way, perfect for her character.)

Sam the archmaester.

Jon back in the North, adventuring with Tormund and Ghost.

Tyrion doing the job he loves and is best at.

Davos alive and well.

Jaime's deeds finally filled in.

Honestly can't complain about much. D&D deserve props for this episode.
Good summary Spilner. I loved it, hated it, and was meh about it all at that same time. Watched it twice. Wife and I had room service going first run and I missed a little (no DVR). Everything post killing Dany seemed boring the first watch. Second watch it seemed very well done, fitting, and giving characters a worthy send off. Jon's smile as he paused north of the wall was what put me at peace with this.

Never been invested in anything in pop culture like this other than Star Wars which was a childhood thing. Books, tv, or movies. I'm not a sci-fi or fantasy guy. Not my thing. Fell in love with these characters almost ten years ago. Sad to see this over. What a ride.

What I don't get is who Dany was hellbent on fighting next.

She had freed meereen, astor, vaes dothraki, westeros, pretty much all the large cities in the known world and major land masses and populations were under her rule.

So who else did she need to fight? Who else was left to fight? That was pretty pathetically played out. There were no more slaves. No more lands left to conquer. She had done what she had set out to do.....

She mentioned "freeing" Winterfell and Dorne in her Nuremberg rally.

So it's not like she had a clear vision, she was just ready to flex and rule the world.

It felt like I was watching a Fast and Furious movie. Everything was done in a safe way that made you see cool things. Absolutely agree with this. Insane flameout. Those showrunners shouldn't have another series at their fingertips.

It is kind of funny how these last few pages have turned into a microcosm of events south of Winterfell. All this discussion about who will win the Iron Throne. I predict there will be no more Iron Throne at the end. Things will revert back to seven actual kingdoms. Dragons created the Iron Throne and dragons will destroy it.

White walkers can be communicated and negotiated with (see Craster). I think Jon somehow makes a peace after a large portion of people are wiped out during the war with the WWs.
I did whiff on all seven kingdoms ending up independent and really whiffed on the NK/WW.

Thought the ending was just kinda meh.

I'm mostly pissed off at Emergency Awesome on YouTube. He clearly pulled an "I'm just speculating on what could happen in the finale (hint: I have spoilers and now I'm going to look smart afterwards)". He mentioned two major things in his video on what questions are left for the finale that was put on YouTube before the finale aired.

I watched his video earlier in the day and after watching the finale later that night it's clear he knew spoilers and passed them off as "speculation".

The things he "speculated" on were there being a great council to decide who was to sit the iron throne and also Arya going west of Westeros. The great council I had never even heard of before his video and he mentions how they "may" have one to decide the next king. Then he mentions specifically Arya's mostly throw away line (before tonight) about asking lady crane in bravos what is west of Westeros.

Really disappointed in this guy and I think I'll unsub from his YouTube channel

Someone whose legacy is already set, not one of the younger actors who needs to ride the wave and can't afford to be honest about it. It's got to hurt seeing all this work get pissed away.

Took Riverrun from the Tully rebels, without loss of life.
Lured the Unsullied into attacking Casterly Rock, sacrificing his childhood home in service to a greater strategy.
Outwitted the Targaryen forces to seize Highgarden. Fought at the Battle of the Goldroad bravely, narrowly escaping death by dragonfire.
Pledged himself to the forces of men and rode north to join them at Winterfell, alone.
Faced the Army of the Dead, and defended the castle against impossible odds until the defeat of the Night King. Escaped imprisonment and rode south in an attempt to save the capital from destruction.
Died protecting his Queen.

Brienne writing down Jaimes deeds hit me the same way that Woodrow's headboard for Deets did. Simple yet speaks volumes.

Dany was told early on she had to go east to go west. Maybe the dragon is flying east to take her body to the Lord of Light high priestess so she can be brought back. Then just as she's recovering her comes Arya going west to go east and rest, they say, is history
The person that is not willing to fight and die, if need be, for his country has no right to life.

I was fine with the ending. I really had no problems with it. I liked the little good-heartedness of the small council and Tyrion's reaction to him not being mentioned in Sam's ASOIAF (no one knows if that's really true outside of Sam). Bronn is Lord of the Reach, so of course would get a seat. There were a lot of ends tied up and even some of the things people were *****ing about in earlier episodes were covered. Dany played the part of conqueror for the greater good who overextended and had to be stopped. I didn't expect Jon to kiss her and stab her at the same time, and I thought Drogon was going to torch him, but liked him melting the throne.

Bran should have been wearing a crown after his apotheosis but maybe he had not yet been coronated.

I read the last part with Jon both ways: He was definitely wearing the raiment of the Lord Commander. My first thought was he was escorting the wildlings back as a courtesy and show of good faith. Then the gates closed, so I thought, eh... maybe he's just going to stay with them. Either way works.

Some of the execution this season was off and rushed. But overall the key elements of the story make sense. - girl who wanted throne had tyrannical/totalitarian visions of a worldwide conquest that would result in the "liberation"/death of millions and had to be put down The acting and cinematography were excellent throughout.

lol, it's so bad in so many ways.

even if 'what happened' isn't the most absurd ending conceptually, the whole episode was just 'wtf' in execution.

What's funny is they even nailed my supposed 'theme' 'she didn't have a choice, she's my queen, the throne is the real evil burn it, now I have no choice but to kill her' -

and 'break the wheel' can only be done by some supernatural power' theme, and even then it doesn't really work.

(insert guy who sees everything and cant be poisoned instead of dragonswhichflew..off ..where?)

but it flopped so hard it's worse than could ever imagined

And let me get this straight - the 3 eyed raven has been around 10,000 years since before mankind, never minded the affairs of men, never led before, doesn't care to be with living people, and no one understands what he is.......and he can't be a lord of anything... and is lost in seeing everything past and present everywhere.........

yet all of a sudden he's excited (see eli manning face meme below for superbowl level 'i'm the king!' excitement)

to travel all the way to sacked city to be voted king of the burned throne by the hairy prison dwarf at some impromptu meeting........ which....was ..... for........... supposedly the hairy dwarf's trial?

Aaaaand the show thinks it's a good time for an 'awkward millennial funny' scene to have a bunch of randos, losers, freaks, and literally idiots all of a sudden decide to laugh at democracy, but out of the blue listen to the traitor/prisoner/hairy dwarf that was supposedly on trial, and make Mr. crippled-mystery-magic-peyote-smoking-dreamer-dude-king -- even though they have no idea what planet he's even on?

and the main character gets pincushioned without even a word or a farewell or even an emotional 'look'?

With no tie in to any of the prior angst or joy or whatever.. the leadup is just awkward nonsense... and what little dialogue there is sounds like total utter nonsense......

aaaaaand snow is on the ground.for ...what ...reason? and of course with no guards or anyone in sight because.....that makes sense?

Aaaaand everyone is just ignoring the ****ing dragon, who hates the throne and the game. But not the dude who betrayed and murdered its mother

They make the most interesting, controversial character in tv history decide to dress up in a hitler outfit, with hitler banners, and give a forgettable, nonsensical 'FFFFFFFFF (insert spit here) IIIRST OAAAADHAAAH' bad guy speech right out of TLJ's pathetic playbook.

then her forgettable - last - scene - body gets flown away for...what. reason...? to............where.......?

aaaaand they just sort of instantly rebuilt the whole city........exactly ... how? and why?

and Mr. Excitement is going to suddenly rule from. the . Melted throne in the burnt city .why?

and as king he suddenly pops in and abruptly leaves the counsel to tell dirty jokes and laugh about nothing....... to find out where the dragon is taking her body...for.........what....reason?

aaaand all of a sudden the big woman puts on her full armor to write nice things .abouther.. .. hateful man?

Aaaaaand the 'there and back again' doesn't even mention Bilbo?

and a whole boatload of best soldiers in the world who happen to be lonely eunuchs are...sailing.......off.......to....someplace.......to....do.........what?

aaaaaaand the dothraki are excited to.....do......what? and they went.....where? ..for what purpose?

aaaaaaaaaaaand the nasty red haired *****........won't support her brother, and wants a competing kingdomfor.......what reason? I guess to show that nasty schemers are still in play, just not where Mr. Peyote is watching?

aaaaand she's got her own kingdom and army so......i ... guess... .the game goes on!?

aaaaaand jon is sentenced to prison and exile .to.a . Place with no need to exist anymore.aaaaaand that's why they don't execute him..aaaaaand he gets there and ignores his sentence and runs off into the wild with his eyes on red haired women and his pet wolf with the gratuitous petting scene, and ignoring the king and everything. Ok..

I don't mind the end result because this is what GRRM did, the rushed, moronic way we got there by D&D is what i have a problem with.

The writing this last episode was so bad, I either cringed or laughed at the absurdity of it all.

Daenerys slaughters a half million innocent people and Jon Snow is such a moron he STILL needed convincing from Tyrion that she shouldn't be queen? She's literally hitler and Jon is STILL like "but she's our queen".

The unsullied just took Jon prisoner? Them and the Dothraki would give him the most painful death ever.

Oh look, Tyrion is a prisoner and hasn't done anything right in years, but let's let him talk and lead us into making Bran king while in chains. Even grey worm listened to him. So dumb.

Bran being king will make sense in the books. In the show, they never explained his purpose so it's especially hollow.

Why does Jon have to take the black when Sansa and Bran rule? The unsullied left. Sooooo.... why?

And EVERYONE is cool with the north getting independence? Didn't Dany promise the iron islands independence? Didn't Dorne want independence more than anyone?

More Tyrion talking when i couldn't respect him any less at this point.

Oh, and Bronn wants brothels.

It was the worst writing ever.

The gates are always closed after a rider leaves, so that alone doesn't mean anything. But Tormund said that Jon had been North of the Wall too long, which I take as strong evidence that he left with the Free Folk for good. At least they won't badger him to be someone he never wanted to be. He can just be Jon Snow again. Best ending possible for him.

As C.S. Lewis said, "Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience." Who knew GRRM was a fan of Lewis?

Yeah I'm sure the new guy from Dorne should just believe he's omnipotent, ok wheelchair dude rule us all!

Hell at this point it's hard for me to even believe he's worthy. They did such a bad job actually showing his powers. If they knew he was gonna be king they should have shown what he actually does.
