Those seem like DRASTICALLY different casting choices.

I honestly don't think they do. Chastain can definitely play a cold, hard b*tch, which is what I think of when I think of Jolie. Granted, we have no idea what the role is, but with both these actresses circling, I can see them playing the same type of character.

With Sophie Turner coming back as Jean Grey I'm thinking one of those two ladies would be the villain, Lady Mastermind perhaps?

There are a ton of possibilities. Maybe Selene. I wonder if they'd have the balls to take the story into space and fight Lilandra.

Fox trying to coattail on the success of Guardians seems like something they'd do.

They've been hinting that perhaps Dark Phoenix will go to space. Fassbender is rumored to return though, and he has nothing to do with that story, so who knows. It'll probably be some generic Earth tale that ends up fighting Magneto instead.

The 90s cartoon is my canon, and of the ~76 episodes, I think Magneto was in about 20. But I also love Fassbender, so I guess you take what you can get.

Genuinely surprised that McAvaoy and Fassbender are returning. I can't imagine Lawrence returning, though, and going with another big female starring role makes sense in her (likely) absence. I've said this before and been wrong, so who knows, but surely this is the last go around for McAvoy and Fassbender.

I love Fassbender as Magneto, but there's only so many times they can have him try to be good, but give in to his hate due to mistreatment.

Hmm! Is Lilandra in fact a villain? I think traditionally she feels forced by her role as empress to put the Phoenix to death, but in her heart she hopes that the X-Men succeed, in a way. Or mostly loves Xavier? Doubt they go that route but hopefully not full-on screaming villain.

Its going to be a lot of stuff going on for it to just be one movie

My dream X-Men movie is Charles and Erik chatting for 2 hours. In either portrayals. Or better yet, both. Scratch my previous remark: my dream X-Men movie is 3 hours of Charles and Erik chatting where scenes of them young (McAvoy/Fassbender) and old (Stewart/McKellen) are intermixed.

Why not? They've had the exact same conversation in every gdamn X-Men movie we've seen. I feel like I've already sat through three hours of Xavier trying to convince Magneto that not all of humanity is bad while Magneto insists that homo superiors should rule. Every. Single. Movie.

I think I'm finally done with the X-Men franchise.........Logan was a fitting end. That's enough for me.

it'll be interesting to see Sophie as a full lead character in something. She's was solid in apacolypse so hopefully she's up for the challenge.

I give up. She has said relatively recently that she's done, and after three movies + the poor reception of Apocalypse, I figured there was no way she was coming back. Money talks, I guess.

So an X-Men film with space and Phoenix and it's already getting Magneto and Mystique for no reason. Nice

It's kinda funny if you're old enough to remember when the original X-Men movie news was trickling out in 99-2000, it looked like Halle Berry might be the big star and Storm would be the dominant character (had no idea who Hugh Jackman was and Gandalf wasn't real yet). But it made Hugh Jackman a star and they almost played Wolverine out too far.

And before First Class came out, comic fans knew Mystique as a secondary character at best and had no idea who Jennifer Lawrence was (though she had apparently been on the Bill Engvall show). Now we're stuck with Mystique.

Look. None of this crap matters as long as when they go to space there is a character named Chode.

True on Halle Berry and Storm. She was the next big actress at the time and got pretty high billing. But it was always a Wolverine story.

I still have no idea how this relates to X-Men: Dark Phoenix, if at all, or the greater X-Men franchise as a whole. Either way, New Mutants hits April 13, 2018, while Dark Phoenix hits November 2, 2018...

Ha, same. I don't even know what it is! Why does it exist? And why release it right betweeen Logan and Dark Phoenix? This franchise is already confusing enough as is.

No real relation, I think. Just a different batch of mutants.

It's a shared universe, but to no real purpose aside from you going "ah yeah, I remember mutants being a thing."

New mutants should be after Cable is introduced to the universe and New mutants should end with Cable showing up and becoming their leader. It is definitely a stage release timeline...
