Fox should just go all-in on this New Mutants / X-Force / Deadpool interconnecting story/franchise over the next few years. And it sounds like they are. But after the amazing Logan, and terrible Apocalypse, how can anyone care about / why are they forcing a '90s-set Dark Phoenix movie starring Sophie Turner and the stragglers of that uninspired Apocalypse cast (save for the always-great McAvoy)? It's a movie of zero consequence. Surely that'll be it for the main line of X-Men movies, as timeline-wise it's going butt right up against the original when all is said and done.

Ya I am curious with that as well. I don't see new muatants being that strong of a movie without Cable. I don't know who else would be their leader outside of possibly Xavier but even then I figure it would be limited or else it would be xmen1.5. I honestly thought it would be deadpool then new muatants with Cable time traveling and going into the 90s for new muatants.

Man. Being stuck in the 90s is really hurting any crossover potential.

It's so weird. And even with the New Mutants / X-Force / Deadpool thing, because of Days of Future Past, we know Halle Berry's Storm, Marsden's Cyclops, etc., are all at the school simultaneously having their own adventures. And that because of Logan, they're ALL going to die in the 2020s because of Charles/contaminated crops. It's just dumb.

Now that would at least be interesting. At the end of Deadpool 2, Cable and Deadpool travel back to the '90s and star in Dark Phoenix a few months later. It'll never happen, but fun to think about.

Now hearing that Dark Phoenix takes place in 1991, leaving at least 12 or so years before the original X-Men takes place, meaning they could squeeze yet another one in between...

That's why I assume Logan is more of a what-if. It takes me out of all these films knowing that Xavier will just kill everyone accidentally in a few years.

Maybe they'll work Dark Phoenix as a prequel, sorta, setting events in motion that establish the X-Force/New Mutants stuff.

Cable is a time traveler, right? Maybe we'll reboot everything again with New Mutants and fox will go all-in on the being the R-rated super hero genre. It's a great way to differentiate their product from D.C. And the Avengers universe. Plus they'll eventually want to recast wolverine, and a reboot would help do that.

Yes, but I thought we all agreed on the Logan thread that you simply have to suspend continuity logic for that movie. If agreed, we have to do the same here. Works both ways.

McAvoy / Xavier won't be in New Mutants, apparently.

Logan now out on digital, includes the b/w version Logan Noir (which is also screening at Alamo Drafthouse locations tomorrow night) along with a 75 minute making of doc.

For the Dark Phoenix film:

James McAvoy / Xavier: unlikely
Michael Fassbender / Magneto: likely
Jennifer Lawrence / Mystique: rumored?

So the two that have nothing to do with Phoenix, and not the one Uber does. Consider me skeptical..

Then you don't know the characters. I don't imagine it would be anything like Blade.

Damn I guess i wasted all my monies when i was younger on New Mutants and X-Force for nothing. I would say yes they are different from Xmen but I don't know if I would go to the horror side of it is all I am saying. I could see that if they deal with the Morlocks or some group like that to get more of a horror vibe I just don't understand why they would go that route. Calling it dark maybe a closer term than horror.

My comment about Blade was it being the closest "horror" dark movie marvel has had that worked.

Well, you've got the chick who's basically a werewolf, you've got the Russian chick who's slowly becoming a demon has the ability to go between dimensions, you have other kids with freakish powers, and they're all teenagers still learning how to control their powers. There's a lot of potential to go the horror direction, whether it's showing what these kids experience as they discover their powers, or how normal humans would realistically perceive them.

If you're really a dork, you'll remember how Magik tried to conceal the growth of her powers and life in Limbo; even her protective big brother didnt know everything. Probably because he would be shocked and scared for her. Lots of potential there.

The most important question (for me): will I get to watch Doug Ramsey die?

I have no knowledge of these characters, but with this being Fox and seeing how Legion played out I could see these things being creepy and dark.
