"they could PACK any venue in town" - yeah, because people in college station are notorious for going to see live music.

"who is it you don't think is taking us seriously?" for starters, the approximate 38,000 students who don't attend northgate music festival every year. even though i've been to the festival, i don't take it seriously. if so many bands from all over the country want to play, why did a college station reggae band headline last year? the best band at last year's festival, caesar, ended up playing by fluke and where were they put? at traditions - what a great venue!

trapt is bad. i watched their videos. they are nothing more than a trl rock band. even if a band is "decent", why would i listen to them when i can listen to something that is good? mainstream popularity is not the issue. the quality of music is.

college station reggae band? i'm assuming you are referring to the Killer Bees. They are from austin. Nice try.

the above, not withstanding, you don't understand the business side of the industry.

Killer Bees were cool last year, I was disappointed there weren't more people there, I was working at Shadow that night.

What about Jurassic 5?? They are unbelievable live and I don't think would charge TOOO much, I could be wrong though.

Last year a lot of people went to check out the rap acts and this is true hip-hop, I htink it would draw well, just an idea.

if J5 played, that would be sweet as ****, but i'd wager alot of money that they charge more than 5K.

austin or college station, it doesn't matter. they are a reggae band from texas. something about that seems a little off.

as far as the "business side of the industry", i do understand. the organizers of the festival want to spend money on bringing in bands that are not good because they have either achieved some notoriety or had a hit song on the radio a few years ago. i think spending money on a band like trapt or bowling for soup is a waste of money. i have never suggested bringing in a band that is out of the festival's price range. eisley could be, but i figured that since they lived a couple hours away they could be within a reasonable price range.

in addition, i think the festival in the past has treated good bands poorly. why was caesar, a band who earned a spot at sxsw, playing at traditions? does no one have an answer?

also, aggie00, why has your message been edited twice? i am just curious.

J5 is around $20,000

Not going to bother feeding the troll this time.

first edit was to correct a mistake, second edit was b/c there was something in there that made me sound like i was trying to be "high and mighty," so after i read it, i decided to edit it.

my whole argument is that many of the bands you have suggested would have zero draw in CS. And just b/c you and I think a (radio) band sucks, that doesn't mean the majority does...otherwise they wouldn't have 2 top 40 songs. College Station is a weird town for non-country music.

And I will agree that I think many times the venues bands have been given are WAY off. However, just b/c someone plays SXSW doesn't mean they should be in shadow or something. Hell feeding 5000 played SXSW...

Just out of curiosity...Has this thread helped whoever is trying to bring bands to Northgate figure anything out?

OK...I know I've already been told that it was too much for these people, but try to get at least one person in the Jack Johnson/Ben Harper/Ryan Adams vibe.

It would be different y cool.

that vibe is gettin played out. So many artists are tryin to sound like that nowadays. Maybe its just not my thing. Dont know how it would fare in CS ... unless it was a wellknown name like those guys, but bringing someone "like them" wont draw a crowd im willing to bet.

I don't think it is any more played out than Trapt's sound.

I guess there is no chance at making everyone happy. How did y'all get Ian Moore there a few years back?

Ian Moore is a relative nobody, he is desperately seeking to get his name out. He's good though, I like him alright

I don't want to get into the middle of the pissing match, but Caesar was the best band at the music festival last year, I'm guessing they're asking too much or have another date already?

Ceaser won't fill Shadow Canyon, I'll agree that they are very, very good but I can see 300 people showing up to see them max.

Bob Schneider played a FREE show here last week and it didn't draw anything.

Once again, people in this town are weird about going to shows
NoACDamnit
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Caesar didn't even really draw that well at SXSW.

You guys DO know they're from Amsterdam right? If they aren't playing SXSW again there's no way we could pay them to come here. Not to mention I'd be surprised if they could draw 200 people.

NoAC,

I know where they are from, like I said they were very very good last year.

Can't believe they didn't draw well at SXSW. At any rate, if they are in the neighborhood this year and can play here I hope they get a better stage than Traditions.

The best suggestions so far are Old 97's, those guys are stinkin good, and I know they would draw a great crowd. Blue October is also a good draw. I also like the idea of Ben Kweller but he has been getting kind of fancy pantsish lately. And Salome I know your name is one of the Old 07's best songs, but you can't deny the fact that Old 97's have a country type sound, maybe Alt Country. But one thing I know is that those guys pput on a badass show.
AggieOO

i like Rhett Miller's solo stuff better.

Midlake - personally I'm not much of a fan, they try WAY to hard to be Radiohead and miss. Even their own fans call them the "houston radiohead." Anyway, they got signed to V2 records and just got back from europe. they *might* be a good grab (not for a headliner) IF something hits before the festival, but I think V2 only released the album in europe.

anybody who tries to be radiohead is going to miss. with that said, i think midlake makes good music. i can hear somewhat the radiohead influence, but i think there is more to their music. there is a bit of a doves vibe. also, why are they called the "houston radiohead" when they are from denton?

rather than listen to the opinion of myself or aggie00, go to www.midlake.net and make up your own mind.

How long do you want to ignore this user?
can't tell you, all i know is quite a few of my friends like them (and are friends with the guys in the band) and call them "houston radiohead." perhaps its b/c they play houston quite often so they are referring to them as their "radiohead in houston." i really don't know.

they aren't that bad, just don't really appeal to me. I have their EP and use to play it on my show.

they do play in houston a good bit. those guys would play ngmf for free if given a big enough venue. Last year they were given Texadelphia and couldn't physically fit their 4 keyboards, 6 guitars, drum kit, 5 guys and 2 dulcimers on that tiny stage. We'll see how their situation pans out this year.

Howdy strangers!

Was just thinking about North by Northgate and was wondering if anyone had a flyer or lineup for the 2002/2003 years?

Hope y'all are doing well!

Did Trapt end up headlining?
