We have two of our nights set up basically. (No, I won't tell you who)

I'm looking at a few acts and want your input.

So far we're looking at :
Blue October
Trapt
Fountains of Wayne
and possibly Flickerstick (not high on my list)

We're looking to pay around $5000 for this act so we aren't bringing Dave Matthews and we're not bringing your friend's band from Hotard.

What would you think about having any of the above acts and is there someone else you think we should contact. (I will say don't bother recommend country or Latin as that covers our other two nights)

Blue October would draw a good crowd here. Also look into the Burden Brothers. Rumor has it that they want to come back and play college station, but are a little hesitant after the treatment they got by owners at concept last year. Those guys play an awesome live show, and Todd Lewis' energy on stage is great.

the crowd at the burden bros show last time was PISSED though...don't know that people would be jumping at the chance to see them.

as much as i'd hate to see fountains of wayne, people would be stoked b/c they play them on the radio.

i didnt notice the crowd being pissed at the bros. show, unless it was all the people that went expecting a Toadies show. Most of the fans that were there came from out of town as it was. These guys could draw a crowd from houston and austin for NGMF. Just a suggestion, Taz had mentioned that they wanted to come back.

i heard a couple people saying they wanted their money back.

yeah well i heard that after a few shows there. not just that one.

Trapt would be cool.

everyone would just stand around until they played 'headstrong' and that other crappy song they have now. That would be a choad magnet.

Fountains would be tough at that price FYI. The tour they are on is in the 3500 size venue. That video is doing them well. They just played the Vic here in Chicago which is a venue that not just any band plays when touring through.

Trapt is horrible. Fountains of Wayne's first album is pretty great, and Stacy's Mom ensures that they're a popular choice.

I'd really like to see the Burden Brothers too. I'm a big toadies fan, and I love the new Burden Brothers song on the radio.

I wish you guys would look at a bigger spectrum of bands though. What about Spoon, theyre from Austin and they rock.

I second Los Lonely Boys. And bring back Hadden Sayers!

How long do you want to ignore this user?
Bowling for Soup is likely WAY out of our price range but I'm trying to talk to them anyways. Not sure how much the others would draw.

Take in mind our #1 goal in selecting our headliners is $$$. Yeah it would be nice to put some unknowns in those slots that need the help, but last year we got to tell 3 charities that zero split 3 ways is still zero.

I agree w/ your comments re: the "unknowns", however
Eisley just toured w/ Coldplay
The Old 97's are working on their 7th major-label album
& Rhett Miller released his debut (solo) album this year to rave reviews by Rolling Stone, Blender, Dallas Observer, etc. as well as appearances on the late night talk show circuit (dave, leno, etc.)
- and all of these bands should still be within your reach $$ wise, with the proper approach, of course

How many people in BCS have even heard of Eisley?

As for the Old 97's and Rhett Miller we're looking for rock over country.

Hell yeah, those guys were awesome last year, and they're cool as hell too, I interviewed them for my website and they sent me their CD, it's pretty badass.

Any of y'all know Gabe McNatt? He's one of my good friends, he's on the NXNG committee.

And oh yeah, Trapt sucks really bad, as do most of the bands on that original list. Get some good bands, I'm gonna work it again this year.

Failsafe and Caesar were the best two bands last year.

You can say what you want about Trapt, but they'll draw people which is our #1 concern. If you have better suggestions, I'm open to them.

Neither are country.

Do you actually listen to music?

what are the dates for the festival this year?
NoACDamnit
How long do you want to ignore this user?
I've seen them both listed as alt country on multiple websites. Thanks for being constructive.

Festival dates are March 25-27. We're pretty much locked into the weekend after SXSW for good.

How about Cory Morrow, Kevin Fowler, Dub Miller, Roger Creager, or any Texas country musicians

Or go with the older country Willie Nelson would be awesome.

Alright, i have a good rocking idea! BEN KWELLER.

He puts on a great show. Maybe a lot of people have heard Sha Sha?

He's from Dallas. Call him.

Oh and I'm in B/CS and I've heard of Eisley too and would like to see them.

maybe 2. i could fart in a mic and draw more people...no offense to them, but they have NO draw in B/CS.

i like rhett miller, but as far as CS is concerned he (and the Old 97s) are country.

no offense to anyone, but i've done booking and promotion in CS...its a strange town and there are like 3 bands (that aren't texas music) that actually draw well there. Spoon wouldn't draw **** (and i like them). B/CS sucks for live music.

i have MANY more comments, but i think they will just piss people off.

From your original list- Blue October has played a few times in the past (one being NXNG 3 or 4 years ago), and they always seem to draw a good crowd.

I know that the same headliners every year get old (see: Pushmonkey), but they would probably draw like you would want them to.

Read the last sentence of the first post.

A.) Our largest venue won't even hold 2000 people. This would be a logistical nightmare and a potential emergency. B.) Willie would cost us well over 10x what we're willing to spend.
Hong Kong Paul
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Ben Kweller...I like that!

Even better though...The Bens, it's a side deal with Ben Folds, Ben Lee and Ben Kweller, I know they're touring in early spring maybe you could talk them into all coming if they're still on that tour, if they're not they probably won't, but you could still talk to Kweller since he's a Texas boy.

It seems like Blue October comes to town once a semeseter anyway.. don't waste a spot on them. Try to get people that don't usually come.

Other texas bands...
Baboon
Pinkston
The Paper Chase

The Eisley EP is heaven by the way...

Of those 3 how many are drawing 1500-2000 people to their shows?

And Blue October barely plays here once a year now. They're still my top choice simply because they'll put the most butts in seats.

Good choices Jim.
baboon, pinkston & paper chase
have all recently played at The Gypsy & Trees in Dallas. Not exactly tiny, unheard of venues.

Would they draw in BCS though?

As a headliner? Probably not draw, no. But give them a spot somewhere. I realize the thing needs to make money to keep going. Just don't perpetuate the machine of bad music toooo much.
