I feel like an actual gorilla would be scarier than Sears Tower Kong. Hide under a bush and his big monkey ass can't see you.
he can fling poo for miles.
nowhere would be safe.

I don't have high hopes. Hopefully, like Godzilla, I'm pleasantly surprised.

I hope it's nothing like Godzilla...that movie was so boring I almost walked out, and I have never once walked out of a movie

I trust John Goodman enough to go see this on his involvement alone

Even if this movie sucks, my happy self will be waiting in line to see the Godzilla kick Kong's ass in 2020

In every movie I see John C Reilly it's the same character in different clothes, and I mean that in a good way. Glad to see Dale Doback figured out how to survive.

Wow. What a ride.

Tons of action in this film. I think they learned from the Godzilla movie: show the monsters early and often.

I am one of those who really enjoyed the Godzilla movie. I've always been much more of a Godzilla fan than King Kong, but the final fight in this one blew all of Godzilla away, and for one very important reason: it took place in the daylight where you could see everything.

John C. Reilly really does steal all his scenes. And the post-credit sequence got me giddy.

For those who listen to Doug Loves Movies (podcast of Comedian Doug Benson's weekly movie game show in front of live audience), this week's show had the Kong director. He was a great guest, and totally sold me on this movie that I had zero interest in before. Sounds like a crazy spiritual sequel to apocalypse now

End credit scene was cool. Look forward to some good future monster movies.

That was a fun movie. Some chomping, some stomping, helicopters, explosions, SLJ's death stare, hot girl, big ape, lizard things, old B-29, warbirds scene ... what's not to like?

But I will admit, the real reason I walked out of the theater with a huge ass grin was that post credit sequence.

Explaining to my two boys what was in that post-credit sequence was fun for me. It got them pretty excited as well.

Thought it was a lot of fun. I'd already rather watch a movie in the Monarch Cinematic Universe than the DC Extended Universe.

The highlight is the creature design, including the makeup for the natives. On point.

Nope. That would be totally lame.

one of their planned movies in the shared universe IS a King Kong vs Godzilla remake, so that is why I was guessing that.

I know. This isn't that, though. It's way more fun.

Yes. As Warner Bros. has it scheduled now...

05.16.2014 - Godzilla
03.10.2017 - Kong: Skull Island
03.22.2019 - Untitled Godzilla Sequel
05.29.2020 - Godzilla vs. Kong

At least one of those dates will likely shift, though.

So we know kong survives at least 2 movies

This is exactly what I said in the thread about actors that ruin movies. Dont hate on JCR until you see the movie.

was this a great movie?

TCTTS

i'll say this... Peter Jackson's King Kong was made with much more love and reverence for the character, but this was no doubt a lot more fun. A bit too thin, and fairly rushed at times, but a pretty great ride overall. The final battle, in particular, was just awesome. I wish Brie Larson had a bit more to do, but I agree that you could absolutely see hints of what she'll bring to Captain Marvel, and I'm 100% on board. She proved her mettle for this type of movie for sure.

Overall, the crowd we saw it with tonight definitely ate it up. Multiple applauses throughout, and a lot of people who worked on it were in attendance as well, including the guy who played the black soldier. It's so fun going to The ArcLight on a Friday night for movies like this, because during the opening credits there are all kinds of pockets of cheers from the audience when a certain person's name shows up, and you know they're there with all their friends. Just a great atmosphere tonight for a solid blockbuster.

Also, "It sounds like a bird, but that's a ****ing ant" had the audience rolling. Such a great line delivery, one only John C. Reilly can make sound so hilarious.

Saw this last night and it was entertaining, but fell flat with the audience I was with. One person clapped after the big fight scene. The final credits and stinger were good.

Okay, you're watching a PG-13 movie where you can have one F-bomb available.

Obviously that honor goes to Sam Jackson, right? I mean, that's obvious?

Nope, John C Reilly. And it was hilarious.

Don't forget Logan a week before on March 3. March is insane this year.

Yeah, what gives here? I don't ever remember this many big movies in March before. I feel like we are already into the May pre-summer blockbuster time. Is this just the studios trying to stop eating their own in a crowded summer release schedule.
TCTTS
How long do you want to ignore this user?
I think you answered you're own question. Summer is just too damn crowded, and March has proven successful ever since 300 killed it at the March box office in 2006. It took a while for the truly massive blockbusters to find their way here, with things like the Fast & Furious installments also helping to pave the way (in April), but this is likely the new norm.

I thought it was a good and fun action flick.

Anybody else catch the incredible reproductive ability of helicopters (from 4 to 12)? Sort of a lol moment.
TCTTS
How long do you want to ignore this user?
That was so weird. There was only one ship, right? Because yeah, the one they showed with the helicopters lifting off only had four. And then I kept kept being surprised that there was just helicopter and helicopter left for Kong to keep destroying.

The Col. had dog tags in a Rocky Patel cigar box. Rocky Patel named cigars started in 2002.

Enjoyed the movie though, and the soundtrack was great.

First time in decades going to two movies in two days, starting yesterday with John Wick 2.

John had a higher body count than Kong. How about a Wick vs Kong movie? J/k

Fun movie, and I love how it sets up future battles. I just about jumped out of my seat when Ghidorah's silhouette was shown. Just imagine what a proper Ghidorah will look like with today's special effects! However, the number of helicopters involved was one of the worst, most ridiculous examples of bad continuity I've ever seen. Where was that freighter carrying all those extra helicopters? Groan.
