There was a scene in one of the Exorcist sequels that was brilliantly filmed. Long shot of a hallway with mundane stuff going on for about 2 minutes. You see a guy walk out of a room and then right after him some creepy ass killer follows him out and is going to kill him.

What a great scene

The scene in Running Scared with the child rapists / abductors. Not a great movie, but that scene gave me the creeps big time.

Wow, lots of stuff here that is worthy of mentioning.

I know the history well, but yeah, that sequence in Downfall with Magda Goebbels poisoning her own children had me screaming at the screen.

I was 12 when Salems Lot aired on TV (it was originally a made-for-TV movie). That window scene scared the crap out of me. The stuffed clown in Poltergeist, coupled with the clown in the book IT, ruined me from clowns forever. I hate those things. That head in the chewed up boat in Jaws was about the first shock I ever recall in a movie; not really a scary scene but I do remember a good jolt.

The Salems Lot scene messed my head up as a kid as welll.

In the original Halloween when Jamie Lee Curtis is looking out of second story window into yard. You see see laundry blowing in the wind on the line and then you notice Michael just standing there motionless. I'm getting the hell out of that town right then!!!

Girl with the dragon tattoo rape scene towards the beginning. Bob getting his leg cooked and eating it in front of him. Also the same people and the way they blood let their victims by hitting the back of their head and then slicing their throat into trough.

I've got a pretty good stomach for freaky stuff these days. Generally, I've seen a lot worse in real life. I don't often watch the torture porn type of films because they are over the top pointless. I don't get any entertainment out of watching movies like Hostel where the point of the plot is to provide a gross anatomy lesson with screaming. So while I could point to scenes from kinds of horror films that are disturbing, it's not the actual scene that disturbs me, but rather that some hack thought up that scene sans any meaningful plot or character development

Agree... I get that there is a market for torture porn, but I just really question the person who thinks of it and what exactly is going on in their head that they come up with this stuff and want to bring it to life.

The Human Centipede is probably the best example of that.

Most of Red Dragon, but expecially the scene with the murdered family with mirrors covering their eyes.

IT aired when I was a kid and I still foster a hatred for clowns.

Lots of good ones mentioned from my childhood. The Shining and Poltergeist are two especially that stand out.

As a teenager, the water moccasin scene from Lonesome Dove made me literally yell/scream in my living room.

In my twenties, the scene in Reservoir Dogs when Mr. Blonde cuts off the cops ear made me squirm something fierce. I remember audibly saying "Jesus Christ!" in the theater.

Sixth Sense, ghost girl puking under the bed scared the loving **** out of me.

This was my first thought as well. I screamed like a girl who was about to be murdered and ducked my head into my gf's lap. Had people around us in the theater asking if I was going to be ok. Nothing has ever scared me to that degree. Second place goes to the shriveled up dead girl found in the closet in the movie "The Ring".

There were a number of scenes in Schindler's List that I found truly disturbing. When something as horrific as this is based on real events, it's bound to be deeply disturbing and traumatic.
