Ha, that's twice in one week now. The first one I should have known better (there was no big expo that week where Wolverine's helmet would have premiered), but the poster is at least official/the "real" deal. It's just that Marvel India got lazy and used AI to generate a poster instead of paying a human to design one. Still, if you look closely, the gloves are almost identical, just different colors/material (which would make no sense in the world of the movie) and I was hardly paying attention on that level.

Is Thunderbolts the Marvel version of the Suicide Squad?
as far as being an off-the-books team, yes.
And made up of bad guys?

I've been under the assumption that Captain America: Brave New World and Thunderbolts are basically parts one and two of a broader, overarching story, one that shares much of the same cast, and this post made me want to do some quick research to try and confirm. As of now, in terms of the main casts…

... here's who's appearing in Captain America: Brave New World...

Anthony Mackie as Sam Wilson/Captain America
Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier
Harrison Ford as President Thaddeus Ross
Liv Tyler as Doctor Betty Ross
Danny Ramirez as Joaqun Torres/Falcon
Carl Lumbly as Isaiah Bradley
Tim Blake Nelson as Samuel Sterns/Leader
Shira Haas as Ruth Bat-Seraph/Sabra
Rosa Salazar as Rachel Leighton/Diamondback

... and here's who's appearing in Thunderbolts...

Harrison Ford as President Thaddeus Ross
Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier
Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova
David Harbour as Alexei Shostakov/Red Guardian
Wyatt Russell as John Walker/U.S. Agent
Julia Louis-Dreyfus as Contessa Valentina Allegra de Fontaine
Olga Kurylenko as Antonia Dreykov/Taskmaster
Hannah John-Kamen as Ava Starr/Ghost
Lewis Pullman as Robert Reynolds/Sentry

So, out of those, apparently only these two will appear in BOTH movies…

Harrison Ford as President Thaddeus Ross
Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier

... making Thunderbolts less of a direct sequel than I originally thought, but still obviously connected. Which will feel even more so considering that, again, Brave New World drops on February 14, 2025 and Thunderbolts now drops less than three months later on May 2, 2025.

As for the exact Thunderbolts lineup, this is the image Marvel officially released a couple years ago...

And big-picture, more of a roadmap is starting to emerge…

2024
- Deadpool & Wolverine finally begins lining up the multiverse pieces for Avengers 5&6.

1st half of 2025
- Captain America: Brave New World & Thunderbolts bring together a good chunk of characters from Black Widow and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, aligning those more "grounded"/terrestrial pieces in advance of Avengers 5&6.

2nd half of 2025
- Fantastic Four and Blade introduce new characters to the mix, the former of which will almost assuredly help set the stage for Avengers 5&6 as well.

2026
- Avengers 5

2027
- Avengers 6 (aka Secret Wars)

… with some combination of Armor Wars, Doctor Strange 3, Spider-Man 4, Thor 5, and whatever other surprises Marvel has up its sleeves sprinkled in among 2026 and 2027 as well.

(with Agatha: Coven of Chaos on Disney+ in late 2024, Wonder Man on Disney+ in 2025, and Daredevil: Born Again also on Disney+ in 2025, helping setup Spider-Man 4, which likely drops in 2026)

FF pretty much has to be time travel or negative zone shenanigans. They can't be kept in secret for 60 years and emerge as 80 year olds in modern MCU.

Regarding the FF, isn't their origin story going into space and/or the Negative Zone and that's how they got their powers?

The simple solution to me is they go into space in the 60s during space race, get caught up in NZ where they get their powers, and then come back to earth in 2025.

You know have a fish out of water story combined with people who are brand new metas.

This is a rock star of a trailer and the most excited I've been about anything Marvel has done since Endgame. BAD ****ING ASS.
Gambit, Bishop, the fun version of Rogue, and Cyclops as a leader instead of being the lamest man alive with laser beam eyes.

Can't wait!

Gambit empowering Wolverine's claws? Inject that **** straight into my veins.

This show (plus the Spider-Man one in the same era) is what really turned me onto Marvel in general as a kid, so very much looking forward to it

Mando, The Last of Us, about to be in Gladiator 2, etc.

Then why use him in Strange? He was basically fancast and it seemed to work. Maybe he didn't want it.

I was excited for Krasinski/Blunt as Reed and Sue but I was pretty whelmed with him in DS2. He was genuine and leader-ly which is good, but he didn't sound like the smartest man alive. Reed is someone who could talk tech and science and theory for hours and forget to eat. He's comfortable and fascinated by topics that are over everyone's head, and he has to put it into layman's terms for Johnny and Ben (and thus they make fun of him).

This probably has more to do with the writing than the portrayal, but DS2's Reed was almost too normal. His intellect is his superpower and it should exude out of every pore. Oh, and getting instantly obliterated didn't help him seem brilliant either.

So I'm curious what Pascal can do. Krasinski wouldn't have been bad but I think fans had that itch scratched already.

Maybe they wanted to separate this Reed from that Reed? I can't see cost being a factor.

My guess is Krasinski doesn't want to do it. He's clearly evolved into wanting to be a director/producer now. He missed out on Captain America 10+ years ago and his career has gone in a totally different direction. Committing to be Reed Richards in anything more than a cameo role means at least what, 2-3 FF movies and 2 Avenger movies in the next 2-10 years? That eats up way too much time for a guy who is mid 40s, has young kids, and wants to set his own schedule for directing and creating.

Kind of my point - he's already in everything, not to mention he looks nothing like Reed. They might as well have found a way to cast Chris Pratt in the role.

To be fair, movie Fury was based on Ultimate universe Fury who was already modeled based upon Jackson back in 2001. So, technically they did use a version that was from the comics.

So they modeled a character after Jackson who subsequently portrayed said Jackson-based character? Pretty cool, I'd say.

I know, making a point that they've had a lot of success with characters who "don't look like" the original comic form.

I kind of get the Pedro Pascal criticisms. One could make the assumption that they just went with the biggest hot name actor right now, rather than someone that would best fit the role.

That said, I love the guy and think he will do great.

I think he was "safe" choice from a fan POV, but not the best choice they could have made.

Disagree, he was the best part of GoT Season 4.

He's pretty stoic in Last of Us, but that's the character. Dude oozes charisma, which goes a long way.

He's like the other side of the Jeremy Renner coin. (Great actor with zero charisma.)
