It's such a weird takeaway, but one of my biggest memories of the movie is how absurd the portrayal of the military was. I even doubt myself now, but I recall that Ross was in the 7th Cav, but was in charge of this science detachment somehow. And I remember him once walking into a room and someone calling "Attention on deck!" I remember at the time thinking that there had to be a dozen people on that set, from PAs to grips to the craft service guy, who all knew how wrong it was.

It's a dumb thing to be hung up on but it's such a lack of attention to detail that it totally pulled me out of it. And like I said, now that I'm writing I'm even considering if it's possible they got it wrong and it's more likely my memories of it are all contorted.

If I was knowledgeable about the military and rankings and all that, I'm sure some of that would have bothered me as well, but seeing as I'm pretty clueless when it comes to that stuff, I didn't even notice.

Like I said it's a dumb thing to get hung up on, but seriously... doesn't every single movie have people to advise on this sort of thing? Marvel hired physicists to consult on Thor. There wasn't some dude who was in the army on the Hulk set?

In terms of Ross being in charge of the science detachment, I'm guessing that simply needed to be a plot point, accuracy be damned. It helped with the conflict, so I get why those chose conflict over accuracy. But yeah, for the little things like "Attention on deck!" it sounds like they definitely could have used an expert.

Just did some looking and it's streaming on Peacock, haven't seen this one in probably 15 years. My memories of it are sporadic, may need to do a rewatch.

This is the kind of thing that would drive me nuts regarding military aircraft, particularly of WWII, which is a frequent issue in movies set during that time frame. WWII aviation has been a life-long interest, so when Ben Affleck plops his ass into the cockpit of a P-40 in Pearl Harbor, I notice right away that the P-40 they are showing is the wrong variant for that date. The original Midway movie used archive footage, but damn it, don't throw in a jet fighter crashing on the deck of a carrier because the footage looked good. But yeah, I'm one of a likely very small handful of people in this world who will notice such things, but thankfully I'm able to let that slide.

Selfishly, this is actually great to hear because I've been meaning to start a new thread on this exact topic for a movie I'm working on, set just after WWII, primarily on an Air Force base. Because I know so little about the Air Force itself, and because TexAgs seems to know so much, I figured this place would be a great resource for a few random questions I have. The entire movie is outlined and basically figured out, but I definitely need some help in regards to aircraft models, protocols, base personnel, etc. Will try to get the thread up and running in the next week or so.

I can talk to you about airplanes of that time frame, but being that I did not serve, couldn't tell you much regarding the other stuff.

No worries. The plane thing will be a huge help in and of itself. There's a scene where a father, who's an officer on the base, displays his knowledge of military aircraft by quizzing his 10-year-old son as they walk around the base, perusing the aircraft. So it's literally all about naming various aircraft, what distinguishes one from another, etc. And the dad's knowledge ends up lending itself to a plot point later in the story.

Might try cross-posting it to the Military board (https://texags.com/forums/63) for the military-specific questions as well.

As long as you don't go talking about the Air Force before it was technically a thing. That's a thing that bugs me about some period pieces involving the military and WWII.

Good call. The USAF did not exist as a stand-alone branch until 1947. Prior to that it was the US Army Air Corps.

Movie takes place primarily in July 1947, and yes, I was aware that was pre-Air Force. At the time it was an "Army Air Field" but becomes an "Air Force Base" by the end of the story. Given the date, I'm sure a number of you know what it's about, as I've spoken briefly on it before. Will dive into more details, though, once I get the thread going.

The Army Air Corps became the Army Air Force in 1942 with Hap Arnold as the CG. At that point, it was essentially an independent branch from the Ground Force, but still under the same War Department.

Didn't mean to derail the thread. We can save all this for the other thread.

Jon Favreau on with Jimmy Kimmel shows an alternate take of a much more authentic performance of SLJ as Nick Fury.

He originally appeared in a comic book but you'll need to be more specific as he's appeared in several shows, movies, and video games.
CNN is an enemy of the state and should be treated as such.

This is awesome news, but apparently Karen and Foggy won't be back. Hopefully cameo or return in later seasons, not just recast outright.

Punisher isn't in the Born Again storyline and Karen is a major part of it.

They already did Born Again in S3 so I'm not really expecting a close adaptation.

Is new Daredevil going to be similar to Netflix? I know the Netflix versions have been moved over to D+.

I'm curious if this will be the more mature (violent) version we're used to or if they will make this PG13

That was my initial reaction too, I loved the Netflix series.

But although it's been brief, I also like the way they've used Matt Murdock in the MCU so far, so hopefully this approach works too

Yes Nick, but the MCU needs you.

Well, he was in one crappy pre-MCU Ghost Rider movie. So there's that.
