I love that little hamburger scene on the bench, with Happy implying that he'll always be there for her.

Thor's dilemma throughout his movies, with the exception of one or two people (Hela and Thanos) hasn't been that he's weaker than them. His issues have been internal doubt and questioning. The storyline and struggle in a superhero movie can't simply boil down to...Can they beat up the bad guy in a fight? Boring. Can the bad guy beat them up? Interesting.
I don't care how powerful the character is - Superman, Captain Marvel - the movie is interesting because of the non-physical challenges they face. Internal struggles, sacrifice, coming to grips with their powers or their differences from everyone else, outwitting an intellectually superior opponent, etc.
To simply write her off because she's extremely powerful is to dismiss the potential that she could have under a good writer.
The writing makes all the difference in the world.FL_Ag1998 said:

This is a strange observation. What makes you think that Marvel will abandon the very thing that works for them (and that they've been known for in the comics for decades), which is character driven storytelling? This sounds like more fallout from people not liking Brie Larson and/or the perceived "girl power" thing.Gigem314 said:
I just wonder how much of that will be done with CM. There almost seems like a hesitation to give her flaws and struggles, because of the social status that's come with the introduction of the character.

her appearances in Endgame felt contrived.
I really had hoped that Tony would save himself in space. he escaped the cave in IM1 with a box of scraps and his intelligence, I had hoped he would figure something out on the Benatar as well. Why couldn't he power the ship with his arc reactor?
then i felt like they tried to recreate Thor arriving in Wakanda, but it worked with Thor b/c he had a character arc and struggle throughout the movie, he earned that moment. Marvel was just MIA the whole movie and happened to show up out of the blue. Perhaps she was off world and saw that people were unsnapping, and high tailed it to Earth
The teamup of all the females was silly b/c Marvel is basically invincible, she didn't need their help. The scene would've worked great if Hope or Pepper were carrying the gauntlet there b/c they are perishable and need help. Would've been like the end of Independence Day, Ladies, Let's plow the road! then they all clear a lane to the van for Pepper/Hope. Then you have Thanos get a hold of Pepper/Hope, they don't have the strength to fight him off, so then Marvel comes in for hand to hand combat with him. He still pulls the power stone out of the gauntlet and blasts Marvel like before
So when Nebula put Tony in the chair and strapped him in, I totally thought she was about to sacrifice herself and plug herself into the ship to power it home somehow...and I was totally in on that. i thought it would have been a beautiful arc to her character. I wasn't super enthused about Marvel just showing up after all the drama of them being there and just whisking them home no big deal

I'm not saying they're abandoning anything at all. But some characters have worked better than others, even with Marvel's incredible track record. There seem to be some challenges with CM initially. Not saying they won't get worked out. In fact, that's why I made the Thor comparison in my previous post. But there's more of a social element surrounding it...unlike IM, Cap, and Thor. That can't be ignored. That doesn't mean everything Marvel is doing with CM is being driven by 'girl power', but I do think there's a certain line they're walking with this character because it's one of the first female headliners. It's unique. It's different.dave94 said:This is a strange observation. That's a good example. I really like it when Wanda shows up and gets angry. I'm not sure if my problems with Captain Marvel are of degree or of substance.

I was confused when Thanos punches Captain Marvel - she doesn't even budge. Then he whips her ass. Maybe I need to see it again, but wut?

He uses the power stone. He takes it out of the Gauntlet and punches Carol off to the side.
At this point in time..........................does anyone really give a sh*t about this movie anymore?C@LAg said:

Maybe this means they can do reshoots, but even that is an issue as these young actors have aged a bit since the film was shot 2+ years ago

Just my opinion, but I think if the Star Wars Last Jedi controversy hadn't already happened, the exact same Captain Marvel movie/character/actress would have drawn a lot less scrutiny. People are on edge with regard to how gender is being handled in popular movies.

Here's where Endgame currently stands domestically. (Vs the only movie that is comparable, TFA)
https://www.the-numbers.com/movies/custom-comparisons/Avengers-Endgame-(2019)/Star-Wars-Ep-VII-The-Force-Awakens
After 6 days:
Endgame - $452M
TFA - $363M
Seems to be starting to fall farther behind in the weekdays, but it's not a great comparison since kids were not in school in December for TFA.
Second weekend will be very telling. (TFA's 2nd weekend was $149M, -39%)
